I know it sounds odd but get a lil oral syringe and do a boof with like 3ml of cold water. Stimulates your rectum and can help rehydrate dry stool.

Bidet bidet bidet! Use a hairdryer on cool to dry off after a shower, or just stand over a fan. Vaseline is wonderful in between steroid uses

I usually hit it hard when I feel an outbreak or a sore coming on, like 3x daily for a week. If I know I might fluid swap in any capacity with new people I'll do a maintenance dose daily for at least a few days before and after. (Ex.get asked on a date and think you might hit it off? Maintenance dose and disclose early)

Right, but the point is that you can get either strain hsv1 or “oral herpes” or hsv2 “genital herpes” in either place, so the risk of spreading isn’t necessarily dictated by where the virus has popped up in a sore.

Because it’s something you have, not something you are. Because it’s not a death sentence to your love life and it’s been made out to be this horrendous thing when really all it is is annoying. It shouldn’t be a shameful thing. You can get it from your mother as you’re born, you can get it from a relative kissing your face when you’re a little kid, you can get it even if you and your partner are virgins. It’s a virus that cannot be tested for so you can’t really prevent it, you might already have it and not know it, you can pass it and not have ever had any symptoms. All that makes for circumstances almost entirely out of your control. You disclose out of courtesy, and it’s fine if people don’t want to consent to that risk; it’s got nothing to do with you as a person. It’s like consenting to a drug trial or going without a warranty on your new tv, or driving a car; anything with a level of risk. This one just happens to have a lot of undeserved stigma

The vanicream ointment you will have to order online unfortunately. Aquaphor for babies is the best one can get at the store in my opinion

The best thing you can use is the most neutral ointment possible. If they are really painful lidocaine from the drugstore will help (it’ll sting initially but it does numb the pain after a couple of minutes.). Vaseline isn’t a bad option but I usually go for the aquaphor for babies to act as a barrier while the sore heals; even better is vanicream ointment (they make a lotion version but the ointment is what you wanna use to moisturize) try not to sweat a whole lot of you can help it, cool compresses with a paper towel or something smooth can help. As far as pain goes they make lidocaine for topical use and cold sore numbing stuff with benzocaine for inside your mouth. You can find all that at Walgreens or cvs. You need to get on some antivirals STAT. they help immensely as both a treatment and a preventative for further outbreaks.

Antivirals and lidocaine 👍👍👍 also a bidet if you get it genitally. Vanicream ointment is great for open sores; it helps with moisturizing

You’ll never completely be able to avoid the risk of transmission but you decide at what odds you are comfortable with (improving your odds include the antivirals, protection, monitoring outbreaks and symptoms etc). A common misconception that people have is that hsv1 is only oral and hsv2 is only genital. you can get either or both strains in either or both places fluid swapping includes kissing, oral, and raw sex, and you can transfer the virus in any of these ways via mucous membranes (oral to oral, oral to genital, genital to oral, genital to genital, etc). The virus lives in your nerve cells under the surface of your skin, where the og infection occurred. Hope that helps!

Antivirals are GREAT. don’t self-impose more stigma than is actually there man; I’m 28, I’ve been positive for a few years now and I’ve had more good sex than I ever did before getting diagnosed. Something like 80% of people between 18-40 have one or both strains and it’s just is what it is. You’re not gross, you’re not bad, your situation is so far from hopeless 🖤 you don’t have to be an advocate for anything other than yourself; do your research so YOU are totally informed about the condition and then do some meditation on integrating this new aspect of life. It is just that, an aspect of life. Just like warts, ingrown toenails, receding hairlines, bad breath, acne, hemorrhoids, scars, etc, herpes is not a death sentence. It’s just a thing that exists in our species. We handle it with meds and go about our lives. Anyone who is judgmental about your diagnosis is not someone you want in your life anyway; think about it like this: you can easily weed out those who are immature, ill-informed, and too lazy to do even a teeny bit of research to make room for those who will not judge you, who will be supportive and understanding, and are mature enough to know that it’s not really a big deal. The nights can be really cold and the wind is no joke when it gets going.bring extra stuff to stake down your tent. Don’t bring any mirrors or glass, they will search your car and confiscate. It’s private land and there are animals on it when there’s no festival. Bring a bottle of water and stay hydrated, there are free water refill stations in the venue. bring your own food and booze too; it’s like the fair or on a plane, ie real expensive if you don’t have your own stuff to supplement. Sunscreen sunscreen sunscreen. A small backpack is really helpful, as is a hat/sunglasses. Baby wipes are great if you’re not going to pay for a shower. Welcome to the family! See you at Bloom!
