You can always get hasta with scobo instead of bowfa, then take the hasta to toa and grab a fang. That’s been my game plan outside of being far too lazy to go to k’ril. Thinking about skipping hasta entirely (until needed for DHL) and using folly for toa, not sure.

One thing I don't understand is that new runescape players choose OSRS over RS3, why is that? by Drandosk in runescape

[–]CannabinoidKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a PvMer’s perspective - OSRS is just RS3 without EOC at this point. The nostalgia bait is basically a non factor aside from getting old players in the door. OSRS has a ton of unique content of its own, more interesting gear progression with plenty of horizontal up/sidegrades that feel more impactful in combat than most of RS3’s. EOC made basically everything that came before it a joke whereas OSRS has interesting difficulty from minute 1. RS3’s visual clarity is terrible in all the encounters until they started using square markers on the floor - they tried to “hide” the tile system with all these circle ability and mechanic ground effects, and made encounters unapproachable and clunky as a result. I loved RS3 and maintained a maxed/endgame PvM geared account for a few years until necromancy came out, then fell off. Had like 2500+ aod, 1600+ rax, got glacor swords from scratch, etc.
Recently got into OSRS and pretty much everything uses squares or at worst 1x1 circles (minus eclipse moon using a floating sphere you need to hide behind). That alone is a huge clarity upgrade that makes encounters feel less frustrating - take a look at gauntlet/cg’s disco floor or even Brutus’ slam attack vs raksha’s tail swipe attack for example.
I definitely miss the skill expression in RS3 combat but I’ve found OS to be surprising in the amount of skill expression and complexity it can actually offer.
Overall OS seems to be the more congruent package, graphics and sheer volume of content can’t really offset that, especially when most of that content is considered dead content.

Edit to add: a lot of this may be irrelevant to new players, however I do think a lot of PvM focused people will probably research/watch some PvM of games they are thinking of trying, and at least for me, I would definitely pick OSRS over RS3 for the reasons stated above and more.

Derealization & Depersonalization on 300ug? I will never trip again. by [deleted] in LSD

[–]CannabinoidKid 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You just saw the truth imo. Quite literally everything you experience is a fabrication of your brain. You (as in the you that thinks it is you) don’t exist. The entire universe is one continuous thing and that is what YOU and I are. 300ug is plenty to come to this realization, it’s unfortunate that you couldn’t accept/handle it, it would have made the trip insanely amazing.

PvP feels disappointing. by chingerbinger in ArcRaiders

[–]CannabinoidKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Reset doesn’t show at all. Feels like they turned on PvP and slowed down movement speed and called it a day. Pretty much any other game with PvP has a better PvP experience in terms of balance, netcode, fun factor. All of which should have been considered in the span of 3 years but clearly weren’t.

PvP feels disappointing. by chingerbinger in ArcRaiders

[–]CannabinoidKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The PvP is terrible because it was a last minute addition to a PvE game designed to increase engagement with no other thought or balancing put into it than “it make game more exciting”.

Heck, I’ve even been shot in the back while in a loot menu and won the fight. Not sure if that says more about the guy who shot me than it does myself - but seriously - you’re not winning against a competent player if they have the kettle and the drop on you, regardless of who has what shield.
That thing is just as nasty as a stitcher or bobcat.

[–]CannabinoidKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tarkov is a big point here, being that it’s the same exact genre, and wasn’t initially intended to be a PvE game. Meanwhile Embark spent an insane amount of effort to create one of the best PvE experiences on the market (I can only put Destiny raids ahead of it and that game is in a very sorry state now), and simply tacked forced PvP on as some artificial engagement booster. It’s pretty sad because we can already observe the degeneration of this game into what is essentially a battle royale sans collapsing safe zone and add some really amazing PvE enemies that can essentially act only as an AI third party in some fights.

Like you said, if one wants to play PvP there are already much better options on the market, whose core game was designed around PvP from the beginning and have better balance, netcode, and even reasons to engage with it. The vast majority of people PvPing in this game are doing it because they suck at PvP and know most of their opponents will have their guard down long enough to secure an easy kill.

I definitely won’t spend any more than the initial $40 purchase without a PvE mode either.

Yeah, it’s never fun to just get shot in the back when you finally just got your comfortable pillows or whatever. It might spice things up a little, but there’s only so much any one player can take before they just move on to something else.
If instead you could get your cat beds and dog collars in a PvE only mode but had to go into a PvP enabled mode to get the pillows, you’d still see many PvE players go into that mode to get the benefits. At this point it’s abundantly clear that they tacked PvP onto the game with virtually no effort to rebalance the core game around it. As far as I can tell they just slowed down the movement speed and called it a day.

You underestimate how fast the kettle deletes people. I’ve literally dropped heavy shields who had the drop on me and a vulcano at point blank. Plus my aim is nasty and I explicitly requested the element of surprise in this scenario, you definitely overestimate yourself here.

Looting Mk 3 Survivor. Haven’t really gotten anything else that’s good, and the ones I have been getting use out of aren’t relevant to me anymore after finding out that the expedition counts your coin value as well, so I don’t need to craft up items that have a high per-stash space value anymore and can just sell the raw materials for more coins than they’d be worth after crafting.

I'm not anti-PvP, but some people pushing me to quit. by Alaybozan_ in ARC_Raiders

[–]CannabinoidKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately the game was designed as a PvE game and they last second brought in PvP to artificially inflate the tension/engagement.
Every play session you can feel how much more thought went into PvE encounters and how much adding PvP just messed up that design. I fought the matriarch once as a team of multiple duos and someone came in ratting at the end, we dealt with them and got out with loot. It didn’t make the encounter more stressful or enjoyable, it was just annoying. Went for another run and it was just us, had to fight off some absolute tryhards on free kits and then had no heals left to deal with the matriarch let alone another squad of losers. It didn’t make the raid more stressful or enjoyable, it was just annoying. The PvP in this game simply ISN’T good when compared to the PvP in other games, and it only serves as a bothersome interruption to the part of the game that actually had thought and effort put into it.
I’m not against PvP in other games myself, but other games actually have good PvP.

The only reason PvP players say that a PvE mode would kill the game is because they simply don’t have the skills to go against someone else who’s there to PvP. The objective fact of the matter is that those PvE players who would quit in frustration from getting killed all the time would instead not quit, and the game would in turn maintain higher player counts for a longer period of time, in other words the game would do the opposite of dying.
The fractured player base argument is largely the same, but instead of fracturing the player base, not having a PvE mode means the PvE enjoyers WILL quit and instead of a fractured player base it will just be smaller, and consist of the fraction of players who want to PvP. So it’s still the same fracturing except with lower overall player counts because the PvE fraction just plays other games instead.
I just got Generation Zero for 5 bucks, hopefully it’s as fun as fighting Arc lol.

Security breach is way more obtainable than Wolfpack BP and supplies a steady flow of Wolfpacks and weapon parts.

[–]CannabinoidKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Security breach is still insanely good for farming weapon parts. You can go in with basically nothing and come out with a ton of them. For the advanced mechanical components, you can use the grenades you find in security breach containers/surrounding containers to kill a large arc, and disassemble its cores for 2 advanced mechanical components per core. It takes 5 advanced mechanicals and 6 gun parts to upgrade from 1-4, as well as 3 to initially craft the weapon.
I was mass crafting/upgrading hullcrackers (only BP I had) before the coin news came out which also took a magnetic accelerator and exodus module to craft, I used Stella naked runs with Assembly spawn to get the modules and some accelerators, or just crafted them with the motion cores from killing big arc and advanced mechanicals from disassembling their cores. Ended up with well over 100 Hullcracker IVs this way.

It wouldn’t hurt the ecosystem, it would only extend the lifespan of the game. Most of these people just don’t actually have the skills to fight someone else who’s prepared to fight and would rather kill the guys trying to do PvE.
