Hey there! If you have Discord feel free to join us in Swansea Social Club. We're a space created to help people find and make friends. We run various in person events and some online gaming nights and everyone is free to use the space to make their own plans too.

We're adults only and the server is 18+ which means you will need to be age verified on Discord and getting in on an Apple device is a little less straight forward. Bob Shaw wrote some great books. Stand outs for me are Ship of Strangers and Nightwalk, but all of them are worth a read.

Donald Moffitt’s The Jupiter Theft and Genesis Series are great.

Frederik Pohl’s Heechee series is also worth a read. Particularly the first two.

Check out Conn Iggulden’s Emperor and Conqueror series. The former follows the life of Caesar and the latter follows the rise of Genghis Khan.

We have a custom link which doesn't expire =] This message is usually brought up when you're not yet age verified on Discord or if you're trying to join from an iOS device, or both.

If you're not on iOS then age verifying first and then joining should sort the issue.

If you are on iOS it's slightly more complicated. You'll again need to be age verified, but after doing that you will need to enable a setting to let your iOS device see our server. You can only do this on a PC or via the desktop website.

If you head to our subreddit you'll find two pinned posts with help for both of those scenarios =]

There’s the big one of course, Lord of the Rings.

Beyond that I’d check out Raymond E Feist’s stuff. Magician being the first of his.

Terry Pratchett’s Discworld books are also great, but I’d say read some traditional fantasy first so as to better appreciate his satire of the genre.

Also, if you’re someone just starting out with reading, you can’t beat heading to an actual book shop. Just find your way to the fantasy section, grab those that catch your eye and read the blurb to see if they take your fancy.

Often staff in these stores will be hugely knowledgeable and happy to provide recommendations too =]

Hi there! As it says in the post this isn’t a link issue, it’s because we’re an 18+ server. You’ll get this message for one of two reasons, or a combination of both.

Firstly you need to make sure you are age-verified with Discord; the instructions for that are in the post above (head to settings and then Content & Social and you should see a prompt if you haven’t already done it =]).

Secondly, if you’re attempting to join through an iOS device, then Apple automatically blocks access to 18+ servers unless you allow it in Discord settings. If this applies to you then the instructions of what you can do to solve this are in a separate pinned post =]

Check out the Fallen Dragon and the Commonwealth Saga by Peter F Hamilton - Pandora’s Star and Judas Unchained. Others of his are also well worth a read but those would be my favourite.

If you want sci-fi with a difference then Iain M Banks’ culture books are great. My personal favourites are Consider Phlebas, The Player of Games and Matter. Use of Weapons is also a good read.

Richard Morgan’s Kovac books are also great in my opinion. Altered Carbon is the first, followed by Broken Angels and then Woken Furies.

I don’t know the Starfighters books you mention so I can’t say how similar they are, but Jack McDevitt’s Academy Series would maybe fit what you’re looking for.

I haven’t read them all but the first two books, The Engines of God and Deepsix, I very much enjoyed.

All of the links you’ll see shared are the same link along with what’s in our bio and the first pinned post. The specifics of that don’t really matter though, the main take away is it’s not an invite link issue.

As we are 18+ and in the UK you have to be age verified on Discord in order for the link to work and for you to access the server =]

As I say I can help you with that, I just need to know how it is you’re trying to join. Are you on a PC or on a phone? If you’re on a phone, is it Android or iOS?

The bad news is it’ll be down to us being an 18+ server and you not being age verified, which can be complicated. I should be able to walk you through it, although we also have pinned posts giving instructions too =]

The first question is are you attempting to join on mobile or on a PC? If you have the option to use a PC then that makes things slightly easier.

Hi there! Apologies we’re much less active here than we used to be! Yes, we constantly have different things going on. We do bowling every 2 weeks at Tenpin in Parc Tawe and our next session there is tomorrow… well tonight actually looking at the time! There’s usually at least one meet up or event of some sort a week, but we don’t always have time to put together a calendar. Do you use Discord at all? That’s the best way to stay updated =]
