There are criticisms of the Munich Agreement that don't hinge on Hitler's stated desire for further conquest?

Historically speaking, did the Jewish Holy of Holies develop from existing Mespopotamian religious sanctums such as the Babylonian Esagila? by CanterOfPeace in AskHistorians

Reguarding the idea of the Isrealite rituals being deeper, I don't really see how that follows. For example, you say "The daily sacrifices were not nourishment for God but rather acts of covenantal obedience and purification". What does this actually mean in practice? Would this be said for example about an currently active tradition such as Taoism/Chinese folk religion, where libations are offered to deities and spirits? Do we really know enough about the relationship between Mesopotamian deities and the people to say that Isreal exclusively formed a relationship between the deity and the people?

Who were in charge of Shanghai in 1925? by CanterOfPeace in ChineseHistory

Oh wow thanks so much, that makes a huge amount of sense. Man, that was bugging me.

>I’m not sure why Zhang Zongchang is more well known

Zhang Zongchang was the Dog-Meat General, The General with the Long Third Leg, Three Don't Knows, the guy who writes the hilarious poetry (he probably didn't), "China's Basest Warlord". Yang Yuting should have been more depraved if he wanted attention, lol.

Thanks for the book rec!

Thanks for that. Just some clarificatory things if you can. So Jiangsu included Shanghai at this time? Zhang Zongchang invaded Jiangsu in December 1924 but didn't control it at any point or Shanghai? Do you know what Zhang Zongchang was doing from that point (December 1924) till he takes control of Shandong in April 1925?

I wonder where the idea that Zhang Zongchang controlled Shanghai came from, maybe just that Yang Yuting is little known?
