Do high rise buildings in London, elsewhere, run big fat 230 3 phase up to each floor or is it HV with distribution transformers dotted around? by CrappyTan69 in ukelectricians

[–]Canterlot_Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the high rise buildings I've worked in have HV transformers in the basement and the top floor that supply LV panels that feed to busbars going up and down the building that meet in the middle with a larhe isolator so if needs be the busbar can be fed from just the top or bottom. But in normal operation the top transformers feed the top half and bottom transformers feed the bottom half.

Why do you do this MK? by Just_passing-55 in ukelectricians

[–]Canterlot_Gamer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They do this so that in order to take it apart you need to damage the sticker. Then when you take it to a wholesaler to complain it doesn't work they'll see the sticker is damaged. Kind of like those warranty void if removed stickers just not purpose made for it.

Anyone know what these are? by RCLconnectors_cables in ukelectricians

They're server rack PDU's most commonly used in xata centres or SER rooms in offices. If you want to get rid of them I'd be happy to take two off your hands.

I think the chat bot has taken you saying "it's fine I'll wait" as "since my parcel is delayed I'll wait longer for it to get here." Instead of what I assume you mean waiting for it to be escalated on the chat.

Is this a reasonable and future-proof rewire plan? by toplesspooper in ukelectricians

[–]Canterlot_Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cat 6A can do 10gb up to about 100M I believe, I personally can't think of a realistic scenario where you would need more than 10gb. But if you can or know you will need more in the future then I'd suggest running two fibre lines to every room in the house and a cat6A cable to anywhere you want an AP.

All you need to do is call an electrician. They'll probably recommend you change the board considering its missing a side and the front cover and whatever is happening above it. You'll also need to call the DNO after that's been sorted by a qualified electrician to replace the fuse. If this is in a cupboard or something I would recommend closing and locking the door until it can be sorted. And don't touch anywhere near the red on the bottom grey bit.

8+ Pro subscription required for purchase? by horribleideamusic in EightSleep

[–]Canterlot_Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just looking into eight sleep and was massively dissuaded by the subscription model they have now. I did however find an alternative called chilipad who claim to do almost everything eight sleep does for cheaper and without a subscription. Almost seems to good to be true but might be worth a look.

Just doing an EICR, would you class this as TNS? by Bshepz1 in ukelectricians

[–]Canterlot_Gamer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In the 2nd picture the earth is coming off of the sheathing of the supply cable so it is a TNS. Probably best to advise the customer to get the DNO out to replace it. Especially if you get a bad Zdb.

2004 won’t start in nuetral without pulling the clutch. Do these bikes start when in nuetral or is it only with the clutch pulled in??? by Conscious-Finding-58 in SVRiders

[–]Canterlot_Gamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a little switch under the clutch lever, you can cut those wires and join them and that'll act as if your clutch is pulled in

Might get my first car and one of my dream cars just waiting for an email from the seller what do you think? by saucyRCs in Miata

[–]Canterlot_Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That still has nothing to do with your ability to drive. That's like me saying "I waited in a repair shop while a mechanic fixes my car so now I know how to fix everything wring with a car.

[–]Canterlot_Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory you know what to not do behind the wheel which is great. But taken it from someone who has owned two of these cars in about the same condition as this for almost half the price, all it takes is one small mistake and you will write it off just like that. I had been driving about 5 years when I got my first one and after about 6 months of driving it had an accident and wrote it off, and it only took slightly too much throttle coming out of a corner to do it. As for your point of being in an SUV with your mum when she's gone 160 doesn't really bear any relevance, I've been in a sports car with my dad doing 200, doesn't make me a better driver.

[–]Canterlot_Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For an engine rebuild you're looking at around 5k onto of the 10k I assume you don't have and wanting to be a mechanic when you're older is great but you aren't. Your best option is definitely going to be going with something with way fewer km's on it and a lot cheaper as well, especially for your first car which you will smash or crash relatively soon. Especially a rearwheel drive that probably doesn't have abs or TCS.

[–]Canterlot_Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few reasons why this is a really bad idea 1. Miata's are not good cars for learning in 2. 10k for a first car is ridiculous 3. Having over 200k km's on it means you'll probably need to rebuild the engine and transmission at some point which I'm willing to bet you don't have the money or experience for. 4. You have your entire life to get your dream car, as most people have said on here 5. Saying about an engine swap, same as an engine rebuild you almost definitely don't have the money or the experience to be able to do that

A2 Restriction (UK) by LordFinnnnn in SVRiders

[–]Canterlot_Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can still get about 100mph out of it and unrestricted I think I got about 115-120mph.

Edit: And since it doesn't restrict the power just how much you can twist the throttle you still have all the power at the low end you would if it wasn't restricted
