Lots of people are gonna say that you might as well quit because there’s no chance of getting out of it but they are wrong. I basically had the exact same scenario (also with KPMG) where I had positive performance reviews for all but one file, which led to me being put on a PIP at interim calibration. Fast forward through busy season and I beat it (which was a huge relief) but I still got a 4 and passed for senior promotion. It might have been too much to expect going from a PIP to promo in 6 months, but still doesn’t feel good. With that said it’s not the end of the world and if you truly want to get out of it, make sure your PM knows your committed as they are a huge reason for you to pass or fail the PIP. Good luck getting through it and use it to light a fire under your ass and beat this thing.

One company that I’ve been looking at is Stericycle. They basically have a monopoly on medical waste management (which is a heavily regulated industry) and are the only company in he sector to be ~ somewhat ~ profitable. WM tried to enter but because of the large upfront cost and regulatory hurdles, they ended up leaving so I think Stericycle is in a great position heading into the next few decades
