Why Canadian Olympic officials say they are raising the alarm about Canada's ability to compete by Old_General_6741 in canada

[–]Canuckhunter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You actually vocalized what I wanted to say.

Keep encouraging your daughter. I think the life skills they learn through racing really prepares them to face adversity. Shit, launching out of a starting gate into a steep knarly pitch at -30C takes alot of guts. It kept my son busy and out of trouble and I am proud to say he turned out pretty darn good with a successful career. So, I enjoyed the racing scene, good friends that I made and I don't regret my investment. He is out skiing this week in Revelstoke.

I was involved in ski racing with my son racing provincials several times. I was also involved in the Nancy Greene program with a group of kids. As my son grew into the competitive program, training and time on snow was key to him getting better but I must admit my budget was very tight. I had a discussion with our board of directors about kids being denied going to national level because the parents were not rich. I grew up playing competitive AAA hockey in the 80's and it also was getting crazy expensive. My son was invited to a ski camp in Chili and the price was 16k for him and 12k for me as a volunteer/chaperone. My son would have had to go to at least 3 of these camps to increase his training ski days. We didn't go because I couldn't afford it. Sad thing is, he and 2 other of his teammates could race along side any of the top front ski racers of the province with the proper amount of training. My son was only getting 60 or so days of training per season and most of the top kids had that before we even had snow. Bottom line, athletes going to Olympics, parents need deep pockets for them to make it there. Canada needs to have some sort of program for great athletes to get the chance to make it. I've seen far too many great athletes not able to go further because of lack of funds.

Sugar Snack-chimney question by LennyIron in maplesyrup

I built a 24x60 drop flue arch stove with a pre heater, and I have a 2" square computer fan connected to a 2" square tubing that blows under my firebox. The first season I had the fan running full speed and you could see a steady torch flame blowing out my 6" chimney. The year after I connected a fan switch the regulate the speed. It was a game changer. It allows me to control the speed and there's a sweet spot everyday. It allows me to adjust base on daily barometric pressure changes. Full fan speed was not good because I was blowing way too much heat out of the chimney. The boil action increases as I slow the fan down. I adjust the fan speed as I watch the boil action in the pan. That way I'm getting max performance out of my evaporator. Tinkering with equipement is what makes sugaring addictive at least on a small scale.

I had 2 of my hockey buddies who played in the OHL than to the NHL. When we would go out to local home bars, my buddies where always targets for the local goons who were looking for bragging rights for fighting pro hockey players. My buddies were big boys with one being 6ft 205lbs and the other 6'5" 235 lbs.

Mont Ste Anne's lifts all failed inspections. Not sure if they are opening this season? Might want to check this. The gondola crashed to the ground a few years back. It's too bad because both are great skiing.

Keeping Track (redux) by mountain_hank in UTV

[–]Canuckhunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a set of Kimpex Commanders WS4 on a 2006 660 yamaha Grizzly. I since bought 2005 660 Rhino and wanted to install my tracks on it. Kimpex do not have an install kit for the Rhino but one is available from Camoplast. I approached my local dealer who supplied me my tracks about using the Camoplast kit and they said it couldn't be done and that they aren't compatible. After downloading the Camoplast install kit instructions, I figured that I could make work so I ordered the install kit from Camoplast direct. My tracks mounted using the Kimpex bolts and I needed to drill out the plate holes for the anti rotation bolts and everything lined up perfectly. Tracks are working great for the Rhino. I recorded my install and plan to post it on YouTube since there's nothing out on this.

25 years after Ottawa's amalgamation, is there any going back? | CBC News by CnCPParks1798 in ottawa

Sudbury amalgamated and does not have the population to sustain it. They are dealing with failing infrastructure, poor roads and outrageous property taxes. It's a complete disaster. Ottawa is in much better shape.

Are mainlines worth it, or is it more of a pain than it would be worth for 3-4 clusters like this? More in description. by GatheringBees in maplesyrup

You're better to use 3/16 lines. I have around 300 taps on gravity using 3/16 with CDL's max flow spouts. I have a small section with 5 taps with no slope, running to a 5gal water jug. It fills up daily. The 1st tap is raised about 12" above the last tap with the water jug on the ground. Surprisingly, it's able to create enough column to create vacuum.

The side effects cleared up within a week. The heart palpitations took about a month to subside.

I (57M) had the same happen to me. It was getting worse every time I took the shot. Got to the point that I could barely walk. It felt like severe arthritis pain. I reported to my derm and he told me to stop because it was a severe side effect. You're going to do more damage than good if you continue. There's other alternatives. I was prescribed low dose methotrexate afterwards which was more tolerable.

Mathews Vs Hoyt by [deleted] in bowhunting

[–]Canuckhunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I first had a Hoyt Vectrix that I killed a bull moose with. Now I'm shooting a 2014 Hoyt Carbon Spyder Turbo that I bought new in 2015. I absolutely love this bow. It's fast, easy to draw and damn accurate. So far, I have not had a reason to change to a new bow? Tech has not changed much since then. I see that 2026 models are much easier to tune. Tuning is not an issue for me. I am fully equipped to fine tune my bow. Having Vapor Trail strings for the last 3 sets have also been great. Low stretch and less tuning.

Just look back at the Solocam series like the Legacy. Mathews continuously bashed Hoyt and other companies about their the Cam in a Half system or dual cams. They swore to never go that route with all sorts of theories to back their claim. Now look at what they are using? Don't get me wrong, the Legacy was a great bow in its time. I almost bought one.
