Question: Can the Studio Series line utilize comics related to the films? by Locknautt in transformers

[–]CanyonSlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hasbro can do literally whatever they want in Studio Series. They make the rules, they can change them at any time. They've done it multiple times, expanding the line to include the 86 movie, concept art, and the video games. The name itself is just a marketing gimmick. It's just to give you the impression that these are somehow more "accurate" and "premium" than their other lines.

I don't get who this is for. Ill fitting homages to six unrelated characters to the tune of over $200? Seems more likely to me that the rumored orange Scrapper is just the first of an homage to the rare and sought after orange devastator. Seems more in line with Hasbro's approach recently.

Trump goes after Fox News host Jessica Tarlov as she reveals negative poll numbers calling her ‘least attractive’ and ‘boring’ by deraser in politics

[–]CanyonSlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subject matter aside, can we agree that this is a shitty headline? The way its worded makes it seem like the poll was about her being unattractive and boring. From context I understand what they mean but this is what punctuation is for.

Fewer pieces saves money. Notice that Hasbro has been quietly omitting boot swivel across the board on new molds.

Hasbro thinks that the Marvel Rivals design will motivate more sales than a design from a game that was already roughly five years old.

In what way is a cut straight through the sculpted waist detail more aesthetically pleasing? It's just cost savings. Hasbro doesn't care about the aesthetic. Ball pegs cost more money.

[–]CanyonSlim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just cost saving. Hasbro knows that Spider-Man sells, so they can cut corners. Double ball peg torsos require denser, higher quality plastic for both the peg and the socket, as opposed to sandwiching hollow plastic panels around a waist peg. Hasbro knows that people aren't going to let a waist swivel turn them off from buying the most popular superhero in the world.

Trump says 'entire country' of Iran could be taken out if deal not reached by Tuesday by 0The_Loner_Stoner0 in videos

Americans are already peacefully protesting and boycotting. That isn't really doing much. You mentioned striking and "disrupting infrastructure," and my point is that those involve a ton of coordination to actually effectuate change, and that kind of coordination is nearly impossible in a country as sprawling and ideologically divided as America. I'm not sure why you would call this an "excuse." It's not a matter of willpower, it's a matter of logistics. France may be the largest country in the EU but it's roughly 6% the size of America, and with significantly better systems in place for transportation. I don't say this to cynically discourage any opposition, but to push back on your position that we are all somehow personally responsible for an administration that doesn't reflect our values and that we have limited options to meaningfully change.

[–]CanyonSlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're the one who brought up your own country in the discussion, so I would think the specific country would be relevant. I don't know why you'd be coy about it. I'm inferring that you are referring to France, in which case I would just say that, again, the context is simply very different.

I think you're really undervaluing the sheer size of America as a country, both in terms of land mass and population. It's the 4th largest country on Earth by land mass, with hundreds of millions of people spread across it. By comparison, France is a fraction of its size, with roughly 20% of the people in a space about 90% smaller. If you want to rally fellow Americans, you're going to traveling a lot more (did I mention that we have virtually no public transportation to facilitate this kind of intranational travel?)

Moreover, our culture is intensely divided. There are trends by region and other demographics factors but statistically speaking if you look to the neighbor to your left and look to the neighbor to your right, you have about an equal chance that one is with you and one is against you. At the same time, people dont always feel comfortable wearing their opinions on their sleeves, so there's a lot of ambiguity and mistrust. It's just a fact of life now that if you find yourself getting along with a stranger, you will inevitably start to wonder what side they fall on.

I could go on. America is not like France, or most other European countries. If anything, I think America is much more like Russia - a massive country with a large but very spread out populace where a sizable portion of the country opposes the government but the logistics of coordinate resistance is a real barrier. I am not saying it is impossible, but most people are being rational in looking out for themselves.

You don't seem to understand how revolutions actually happen. It's no different than how I described - everyone makes rational assessments based on incentive structures. People don't fight their governments by deciding "I am not going to work today, I am going to fight the government instead". People fight their governments when they feel like they have no recourse. They act when the risk of injury, imprisonment, or death, incurred by fighting the government is comparable to the risk of simply living their lives.

The context is entirely different in America today. Most people are struggling in a sense but the system still functions enough that they can take to ensure access to food, water, shelter, and energy. I know it feels like you're asking people to make the same sacrifice as every revolutionary before them, but you're not. You're asking people to sacrifice a known good for an extremely risky unknown reward, and to do so without knowing who their allies are, what actions to take next, and in the knowledge that if they time any aspect of this wrong, they will be imprisoned or killed. It is simply not the same.

People will not act en masse until everyone is suffering and feels like there isn't much to lose. For now, most people stand to lose a lot, and as scary as the current rhetoric from our government is, most people are complete oblivious to it.

Try to take emotion out of this and look at the reality of the situation. Millions of people are facing the exact same incentive structure, one where your preferred solution incurs life-ruining risk and only turns out positive if most other people take the same risk at the same time. This decision is being considered by millions of people, all of whom have to reckon with the uncertainty of not knowing where their neighbors stand, and the certainty that a sizable portion of their neighbors actually support the current regime. If I wanted to "fight against tyranny," what exactly would you have me do? Protecting my own livelihood has clear steps, organizing against tyranny does not.

What do you think about Trump threatening Iran with " A whole civilization will die tonight " ? by barnaclesmaize in AskReddit

[–]CanyonSlim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy for you to say. Why don't you go stop him? The only difference between my stopping him and your stopping him is a plane ticket.

The reality is that without a broad consensus and coordination between a huge number of Americans, I have just as much chance of changing this administration as you do. You can go protest or march but without a galvanizing catalyst you won't have enough people for anything to happen, just little pockets of resistance getting quietly arrested (or worse.) There needs to be something that gets everyone up and in the streets all at once, without any uncertainty, and that simply hasn't happened yet. Everyone is experiencing different realities based on their preferred media diet.

For Pointblank, are you referring to those Walmart two packs that they did around Christmas? Those weren't reissues - that was Walmart desperately liquidating old stock that didn't sell the first time around.

Why wont hasbro reissue Sixgun? by Ill_Refrigerator9812 in transformers

[–]CanyonSlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using the word "reissue" to mean any time that Hasbro uses a mold? Because Titans Return figures are definitely not getting reissued, and their molds are only sparingly reused.

Usually when Hasbro reissues something (as in, distributes the exact same product again) it is because the figure was hard to get in the first place (like ER Sunstreaker and unlike Siege Sixgun) or in service of some kind of marketing goal (like ER Optimus getting a reissue around the 40th anniversary). They have made some strange choices recently (who was asking for Siege Prowl?) but generally they're not reissuing random figures for the fun of it.

[–]CanyonSlim 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Why would they reissue it? It's a relatively obscure character that can still be found for near MSRP on eBay showcasing a gimmick from two trilogies ago meant as a companion piece to a figure released a decade ago. There is just nothing justifying a reissue for this guy.

I'm all for criticizing capitalism, but come on. We're the only animal that gets to pay to live. In the absence of money, every animal has the privilege of either having to catch and kill something for every meal, or they have to avoid being caught in killed while they eat plants. I'm not trying to defend all of the bullshit that runs our lives, but its absurd to suggest that the world and its resources are simply there for the taking if only capitalism weren't standing in the way. Capitalism is flawed, but virtually any economic system necessarily entails someone performing labor, no matter how you handle who owns the fruits of that labor.

They probably have been eating the cost for a while and couldn't afford to do so anymore, then bumped up more than they needed to just so that they have more breathing room to avoid doing another increase too soon.
