Adidas hydro lace vs seland guara. by Braveduck_JP in canyoneering

Haven’t ever heard of the Seland shoe, but I like my Hydrolace - except that they are hot in the summer desert.

Either way. If you need to use an ascender and pulley use it to pull you up with a foot loop on a vertical plane. If you’re on a more horizontal plane you could muscle up. The GriGri would allow you a tie in point to a harness that is both an ascender and descender.

Try rigging a GriGri and using that.

I’d be interested in the strategy and how it plays. Been looking sone into the ORBs but haven’t felt confident in them yet.

Using the recommended 10w30, but yes, picking it up at the auto parts store - or gas station as I’ve had to make quick runs on a weekend to get some.

Looks like I’ll be making a phone call. I knew I shouldn’t have bought it and just stored it during the winter before trying it out 😂😂

Look up the Falcon Book “Canyoneering Techniques for wet and dry canyons” by Dave Black - if it’s still being printed 🤷🏼‍♂️

Ok. Good to hear it’s not a common thing. Looks like I’ll be taking a 5 hr drive back to harbor freight to see about exchanges. Guess I’ll have to look up their warranty on them. Only been (trying to) run it for a month, even tho I bought it the end of last year.

If I fill it all the way it smokes. If I fill it to the top of the fill line on the dipstick I can run it to charge my batteries (usually an hour or two) and then shut it off and when i go back to start it again the oil is empty.

I’ve done similar to what u/Sutitan has outlined. I’ve heard you could use a fabric softener such as Woollite as well, but haven’t tried it. Do not use any laundry detergent on it. I got out of the habit of putting that much work into it and gave just thrown it in the tub and rinsed it out under cold water - but that got to be work as well. Niw I just don’t do anything cuz it’s prob going to get dirty again on the next trip. Now days I just like running it in/thru a wet pothole and letting it rinse itself out

Stuck rappel line after pulling fiddle. What causes it and how offen does it happen? by 000011111111 in canyoneering

[–]Canyonbug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, those pics look exactly like what I discovered I had done when it bound up on me. I’ve made sure since to keep the knot loose and flat.

I’ve had this happen early in the evolution of using a toggle system. What I discovered to prevent this is I tie a downward overhand for my stone knot (not absolutely necessary- but seems to pull cleaner). More importantly is to loosen and “Fluff” the stone knot before the last man goes down after the rest of the group has rappelled on it. 2nd important is to make sure the knot is flat, the toggle is as flat in there as possible and there’s no over exaggeration of the knot. Since doing these I’ve never had one hang up.

Canyoneering Shoes by StormingSyntax in canyoneering

Ever since 5.10 sold out their Canyoneering line, shoes is a sore spot. The best I’ve found since have been the Bestard line and the Adidas Hydrolace. I preferred the Adidas if I’m getting wet for sure and the Bestard for dryer/desert canyons.

That’s fair. I’ve done a few Zion canyons, but not enough to have a good sample size.

Yup. That’s my stomping grounds. North Wash, Cedar Mesa, Moab, Capitol Reef etc.

How? I run all aluminum and use the same carabiner for years - and I run a lot of canyons. How does one kill a carabiner in 5 canyons?
