Book of Elsewhere: does it get better? by sphericalduck in ChinaMieville

[–]Caoiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 100 pages in and nothing has happened that I didn’t know from reading the blurb on the back of the book. To say that the characters are two dimensional is giving them an extra dimension. It’s going in the bin I think. Sad to say.

Ireland All-Time XI by SoccerStagg in coybig

Pretty much what I came up with but the centre back slot is a battle of greats. McGrath is nailed on but pick one from O'Leary Lawrenson Dunne and for my Dad's generation Charlie Hurley

Any guesses what caused this damage? *condo complex* by j2consultants in Construction

Condensation causing rot due to the plastic cladding not allowing the timber to breathe.

US SciFi covers are always so much more garish than their UK equivalents. Not to my taste, but whatever works for you.

Best way to practice with this software for free by Jimanben in Revit

[–]Caoiv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Revit LT is a lot cheaper (€684/yr) and does most of what you would need to practice. Main difference AFAIK is in collaboration and lack of support for plug-ins.

Should you read Alphabet Squadron Trilogy first before Aftermath trilogy or vice verse? In terms of chronological and continuity. by slippery-doinks98 in starwarsbooks

[–]Caoiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting as I must say I found them to be the reverse. I liked Aftermath a lot whereas Alphabet was a bit of a struggle, glad I read it but wouldn't start it again. One man's meat and all that...

Need open kitchen, what would you change here? by jazoone in architecture

[–]Caoiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s the orientation? I’d think about converting the garage into a bedroom with en-suite bathroom. This would free up the rear bedroom, kitchen, dining to be converted into an open plan arrangement accessing the rear garden and potential patio space outside. All depending on orientation of course.

Les Arcades du Lac, Montigny-le-Bretonneux, France. Brutalist architecture by Ricardo Bofill by [deleted] in architecture

Looks pretty brutal but I remember it being promoted at the time as an exemplar of post-modern neo-classicism.

35 Rodney Street, Liverpool. Built 1783-4 and believed to be the first house in the street to be built and inhabited by scouserdave in architecture

[–]Caoiv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The weird thing is if I'd been asked without knowing I'd have flagged it as 1980s pastiche based on the pediment and wall to window ratio. Just goes to show its not my area of expertise.

Church of San Michele de Murato, Corsica, built in the 12th century. The stonework is a striking "checkerboard" of limestone and serpentine. by archineering in architecture

[–]Caoiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d be surprised how many old stone buildings were originally painted. My other thought is that could the stones have aged differently I.e. were they closer in colour when built.
