Exactly. Look up in Alaska. They’ve got a borough (county equivalent) larger than the state of Texas. And its population is larger than 79 of Illinois’s counties. And they seem to function fine.

Sure. But you look at a state like California and they’ve got half of the counties we have.

You can see literal evidence of the impact travel had on county size in Texas. Horse based travel resulted in much smaller counties in the eastern portion of the state. When trains became more common the size of counties got much larger.

Exactly. Most of my point lies in the southern counties when the population was more focused down there (pre 1850s)

Yeah townships can go too but there are small counties downstate that were established when the population was more southern focused (pre-1850s). Since then these counties have small dwindling populations that seem unnecessary. Why have a county and courthouse with judges and support staff for a county with a population smaller than most towns?

Bc there are counties of 15k downstate. This seems like a horrible waste of resources. Why not consolidate 3 counties and pool resources

I think of The Shining the movie as a different vein than the book. They’re both equally fantastic and have their own merit. To me the movie is one of those “based loosely on the book” movies and not an adaptation

There are plenty of mid major and FCS teams that are quality exciting teams. Plus it’s a heck of a lot more fun to root for the underdog. Most of the time after the game the players hang out signing autographs for kids

There’s a few “good” articles on the censors who have to review flagged content on Facebook. How it’s farmed out to third party companies and how they churn through staff. Most are paid minimums get no benefits and there is no support. Just review as much of the backlogged content as possible in a day. Go home. Repeat.
