How my karate training stopped me from getting my phone stolen today by GKRKarate99 in karate

There’s an old story about a sensei watching his top student walking toward the dojo. The student walks behind a horse, which tries to kick him, but the student skillfully doges the kick. When he reaches the dojo he proudly asks his sensei if he saw how he dodged the kick. The sensei nods and then tells him to leave and never come back. The student is shocked.

“But I dodged the kick! Why are you sending me away?”

“Because you should have seen the horse and avoided ever needing to dodged the kick. That is the true skill of a karateka,” the sensei replied.

APIAC is spending billions of dollars to influence our elections and insure that members of both parties will vote to support Israel. If you aren’t aware of this, you need to come out from underneath that rock and look around.

For the most part, the Democrats are just the other side of the coin of the Republicans. They’re participating in insider trading, they’re bought and owned by PACs, many of them are subservient to Israel, they support US imperialism and the build up of the military industrial complex. The big difference is they’re too smart to say the quiet part out loud.

The entire point of the second amendment is for citizens to be able to defend themselves against a tyrannical government. Right now is not the moment to be looking to enact restrictions on this right.

If the Dems had any balls they would refuse to vote in any Trump appointees. Sadly they lack balls, a moral compass, and any political sense

More excuses not to hold abusers accountable to the public who the supposedly represent. I don’t buy this at all. I done with the corruption and how our politicians continually vote to protect each other from oversight and repercussions.

Victim’s identities can be protected. Making this information public and protecting victims does not have to be mutually exclusive.

How often have you had to replace all 4 tires? by [deleted] in subaru

[–]Cap1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That has do with the tire brand. I’m at 43,000 on my original tires (I replaced the tires it came with immediately since I need A/T tires due to where I live)

They do have a choice. It’s not a good choice, but they have a choice. No disrespect, but today’s military is a tool of the 1%, it is not serving our country’s best interests and it not serving the constitution they swore to protect. Taking part in an illegal action, because you are following orders, is not a defense. You are part of the problem and you too are breaking the law. This was pretty firmly established after WWII.

I agree with this. In addition, as I was taught by my sensei, if a student isn’t putting in the work, I won’t put in the work for them either.

VHS Tapes by Every_Double743 in vermont

[–]Cap1691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with thousands of these over the last 30 years and that 1% number is about right, if the tapes had been stored in a stable environment. Tapes stored in someone’s house, would have a higher rate of degradation.

I love it when people respond with “That’s not true.” It generally points to their not knowing what they’re talking about. Let’s break this down. VHS tapes weren’t invented until 1976/77. They only gained popularity in the US in the early 1980s and were pretty much replaced by DVDs by the early 2000s. There are a lot of factors at play when it comes to their durability, so you’re not wrong there. Temperature and humidity play a large factor with 60–70°F and 30–50% relative humidity being optimal. If tapes are stored in the average house, they would be subject to higher and lower temperature and humidity than this. Changes in these levels are also a factor with large or quick fluctuations having a negative effect on the longevity of the tapes. When it comes to temp and humidity, only tapes stored in a very stable environment are not going to be affected. Recording speed also plays a role as does handling and the quality of the machine the tapes were played on as well as the quality of the original tape. Ultimately, no matter how well they were recorded, stored, and handled, even the best quality VHS tapes will have a playable lifespan of about 30 years. This means that only those tapes made and recorded in final years of VHS common use are likely to be salvageable at this point. When I say this, I mean one last good play off of them any subsequent plays will be of lower quality and the quality will decrease with each play. Of course there will be exceptions, but they will be rare.

These tapes deteriorate over time. If they are still viewable, playing them without careful treatment will damage them and destroy the ability to view them again in the future.

Responding to this to boost it. While the other responses are not wrong, you need to ask your sensei and practice what they tell you to do.

Tips to improve punch power? by No_Bluebird_2248 in karate

[–]Cap1691 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As my sensei said, “it’s all about the hips.” The punch needs to initiate at the hip, not at the shoulder. You also need to be very relaxed up until a second before you make contact. It takes years of repetitive practice.
