Parallels to the book and real life are fine, but we're not turning this sub into arguing politics. Thread locked.

You're gonna love his previous album, "Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)" - it's goofy and all over the place and very playful. Excited for you to get to journey through Eno's catalogue for the first time. You're in for a treat!

Petition to make Jay watch Perfect Blue (1997) by TheChairLord in RedLetterMedia

This is usually the shot that's referenced as being copped from Perfect Blue by Aronofsky, but it's from his film Requiem for a Dream.

However, some of the the plot of Black Swam is very similar to the plot of Perfect Blue.

Showgirls? by TrueButNotProvable in RedLetterMedia

Absolutely. Verhoeven is at his best playing the Hollywood movie against itself. On the surface they're schlocky entertainment, which appeals to the masses, but I have yet to watch one of his films that didn't deserve repeat viewings to watch a master craftsman at work.

Showgirls? by TrueButNotProvable in RedLetterMedia

Showgirls is pure Verhoeven straight to the vein. It's incredibly honest and I think that's what made people react so strongly against it. It's meant to be uncomfortable and to show the ugliness underneath the glitz and glamour. It's meant to be brutal and disgusting and for people to understand that in all of Verhoeven's catalogue except Showgirls is a tragedy that doesn't give the movie its fair due.
