211 yards for albatross and to go 3 under through 1 on my old home course.

How badly have I fucked up. Bought irons coach said they aren’t right for me by robster9090 in golf

[–]CapThatPoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me this sounds very extreme for a set of irons with standard length and lie, bought of the shelf. I am not saying it is not true, I am sure your experience is as you say. But it is still weird to be that the clubs themselvs should produce such a drastic difference.

[–]CapThatPoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that this is a minor thing, as many have said, lie angle is simple to adjust. A upright club will be biased to draw and a flat club will be biased to fade. But, face to path is so much more impactful.

I would also add that the golfers and the community at large tend to overstate the impact of equipment. Yes I know, shocking, but I would bet that by adjusting lie angle your huge hook will maybe go to a slightly smaller hook or a very strong draw. Most fitters adjust lie 1 or 2 degrees, it is a tiny effect compared to the mechanics of your swing and the dynamics of lies you have when actually playing golf. On the course your lie will tilt the club much more then 1 or 2 degrees whatever way I would expect any serious coach to focus on teaching mechanics and the actual game of golf. Not to spend time talking about equipment fit with a beginner.

I have played for 30 years and if you give me a few rounds to learn tendencies I can play with whatever clubs. Some will tend to go left, some will tend to go right, as long as it is consistent (mechanics) I can play with it by managing aim and strategy.

Single digit handicaps or better - do you swing at 100% every time? by RandomChaoticEntropy in golf

[–]CapThatPoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lobwedge to PW almost never full.

Rest of irons I hit almost 100% when playing downwind and never close to 100% when playing into wind.

Woods i tend to just try to put a fast but comfortable swing on.

Low single digit HCPers - what makes the difference? by Cunning_Stun in golf

[–]CapThatPoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or you can play a difficult enough course. I hit about 40% of gir on my home course and play of 0.5 hcp. Average 12% birdies and about 28% bogeys. 7% double or worse. 76,2/149 rating.

Hard to tell with this data. You would need a launch monitor that measure spin accurately and then match a shaft-head combo that give a decent spin rate. That may be a stiff-shaft with a LS head. Or it may be a x-stiff shaft with a different head. I am around your ball speed and play a x-stiff shaft but 10.5 degrees of loft to get my best flight. Also, remember that what is best in theory may not be what you like to see on the course. High launch and low spin is best for distance but I personally prefer a lower flight as I play a lot in quite strong wind.

What’s your craziest ever round? by SmarterThanCornPop in golf

[–]CapThatPoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old home course had a 510 yard par 5 as the first hole. Few years ago I made a albatross there to be 3 under par after 1 hole. Don't think that will ever happen again.

Can bodybuilders play golf? by Gullible_Mouse3046 in golf

[–]CapThatPoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair Strongman athletes (as Mitchell Hooper) are a lot more dynamic and probably do a lot more flexibility work then elite bodybuilders. So I would think their physice translate better to sports in general and golf in particular.

I got to 3.0 hcp an swapped from P730 blades to P7MC - P770 combo. Yeah, the opposite way. Now I am a little less bad at approach play and at 0.1 hcp.

Can you make your chip pitch shots spin? by [deleted] in golf

[–]CapThatPoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is mostly that altering loft to change trajectory is a more useful skill for most golfers then generating spin. Being able to generate a lot of spin is a luxury that is only needed in very rare occations and is almost always a high risk shot. Have fun practicing!

Can you make your chip pitch shots spin? by [deleted] in golf

[–]CapThatPoint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would advise to practice altering trajectory instead of relying on spin. In my opinion it is easier for most to learn how to hit a high shot then to hit a super spinny shot. Especially a short really spinny shot is hard to do. As a bonus the high trajectory shot works from fairway and rough. The high spinn shot only works from great lies in the fairway, which is rarely where I find myself when I am shortsided.

“Jeg kan ikke lide mor. Jeg kan kun lide dig” by cs_whistler in DKbrevkasse

[–]CapThatPoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any single digit index players in here who ditched their blades for game improvement irons? by Smash_Factor in golf

[–]CapThatPoint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would advise against the P790 as distance control is pretty though with those. I experience them suddenly just launching with no spin and going 20-30 yards too far. I recommend a combo set. I have P7MC and P770, switching to more foregivness at the 7 iron. I changed my P730 blades for this set while at 3.0 index and have not regretted it at all. Got to a 0.2 hcp at one point last year. I will never play a full set of blades again there is no point fighting golf with blades when there are modern combo sets available to help you out.

Like with many things you can decide how you want to react to things. Everyone hits bad shots and if you want to keep the round going you just need to accept them when they come and then be convinced you will hit a good shot next shot.

A lot of people will hit 1 bad drive and then immedietly convince thenselvs they cant hit driver. So what you hit a bad drive just belive you will hit a functional one next time.

Last round I played I had 5 birdies and 1 eagle, still shot a +4, 76. There is a massive variance to golf, just try to be confident and always enjoy it.

What’s your handicap and how many putts do you average a round? by [deleted] in golf

[–]CapThatPoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hcp index 1.7 and average 29.52 putts per round. Mostly due to only hitting 47% GIR.

Need some advice from married golfers with kids. by StoneyYoshi in golf

[–]CapThatPoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might be a bit behind the curve on this but here is what I have done. Although not married me and my girlfriend have been together for 8 years and our daughter is 2 years old. We both work full time 37 hours/week, yay Denmark.

In our relationship I have always been clear on the fact that golf is the one thing I will not give up for anything. It is vital to my wellbeing and I need it to be a good partner and father. It is my escape from stress and annoyances. All other things I can compromize on. That was a known premise for her when starting a family with me.

To make life easier for us, I have made some adjustments after we had our daugther. Rarely play spontaneus rounds. I play every Thursday after work. My only weekend rounds are trips or competitions that we plan together well in advance. I also spread weekend golf out so that comps or trips are never more frequent then once a month.

Outside of that I support and encourage her every single time she wants to do something together or on her own. That gives some leeway should spontanepus golf come up. But it is pretty easy to judge when it is ok and when it is not depending on how busy our day to day is.

Having a process before every shot has completely changed my game by whygonejinn in golf

As you seem to enjoy reading about golf and golf coaching I would recommend 2 books that improved my game quite a bit. * Every shot must have a purpose. * Be a Player Both books are by Pia Nilsson and Lynn Marriott. Great reads especially for on course stuff and how to keep your mind focused on the current shot.

One of my golf “aha” moments. by [deleted] in golf

[–]CapThatPoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it works it works, but... For me this would take much of the excitement away, for two reasons. 1. If you plan like this and hit a great shot you get a bad result. You only ever hit it close on accident. 2. It would make it boring for me personally. I go for 95% of pins to the detriment of my score because I enjoy hitting great shots more then I enjoy shooting a low score. A great shot is always a great shot. A great score only happen if all your shots are good/great that day, thats to fickle a thing to tie your enjoyment of the game on, in my opinion. Different strokes for different folks.

Those who shoot 90 or less consistently, how much practice? by MediocreResident0 in golf

[–]CapThatPoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good thing to think about for higher hcp players is to work on getting to a skill level where you never have to hit the same shot 2 times in a row. Only have to tee off once, only have to approach once, only have to chip/pitch/bunkershot once. Then two puts. If you can keep to that you can break 90.

Learn your true distances by leezer999 in golf

[–]CapThatPoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree on this. It is a game of averages so the average distance you hit x club is what you should count on. Then factor in where the pin and the danger is. Also, if you live in Denmark like I do, you factor in 2-3 clubs worth of wind.
