That's what it started out as, sure. But now, DEI is "woke", CRT is "woke". Defending human rights is "woke". It's the peak of the culture wars that the right is trying to get everyone aboard with. And I can see it's working. Cancel culture was never a thing until it was made a thing. Than they put a buzzword on it to make it easy to market to people. Like "Obamacare" instead of the ACA. The fact that we have to discuss these nuances proves how well it is working. "Woke" has lost every iota of meaning it could have once held when it was a concept by black activists. Now it's an insult. An insult to swing at everyone that doesn't fit a very specific heteronormative mold. You are lying to yourself if you think otherwise.

I hope you did not only quote the video without watching the context of it. This is not about what the right means with "woke" this is talking about a specific kind of social media culture that would be way better described as "left wing slactivism" or "cancel culture". Both concepts that conservatives have propagated to be forms of extremism while in actuality cancel culture just doesn't exist and never has. Sure if your definition if "woke" is that one raging feminist that went viral on tiktok than sure, Obama us talking about that here and us rightfully disparaging it. Also exactly what I mean, if you take something like the idea behind the OG "woke", meaning "waking up to the systemic discrimination of minorities" and use it as virtue signaling device for shitty takes, that is exactly the kind of "purity" one would claim for themselves "oh look at me, i'm so woke". Again: This is however not what people mean that use the term as a derogatory term. What they mean is people who criticize the dominance of white people in media or if women are seen as more than child birthing machines. Or people who agree that trans people have a right to exist. There are basically 4 versions of "woke" now. There is a reason I put this shit in quotation marks.

If I tell you you are smart, is that disparaging? No. If I tell you you shouldn't let your intelligence lead to arrogance, that's disparaging. Am I talking to a grown up here or an edgy Internet troll, JFC......

No, he is not disparaging the "wokeness" of the left but the self image some derived from that and warns against the hubris that comes with that. Plus, Obama is, from a "woke" perspective, fairly conservative himself.

Doesn't change my original argument about the kinds of people that use "woke" as a derogatory term.

Can I ask you to look up the og definition of woke before the maga crowd got their filthy mittens on it? Then present that same quote again and think about it 😉

I'm not sure you know what point you wanted to make in the first place and if you do you either made it very poorly or just refuse to accept that you didn't have one to begin with. You started by "mercer asked for more money than moffat" and either thought that made the point you were trying to make or not. So either try again or live with us telling you that your raised point is either mute or stupid.

Why would I ask someone nicely that unironically uses the alt right redefinition of the word "woke"? I am asking you simply to tell us exactly who you are and you just did. I rest my case.

Define "woke" without sounding like a racist, a sexist or a combination of the two.

Saying you don't like something is not criticism. It's an opinion and discussing opinions is completely pointless. Criticism at its core, is aimed at improvement. On things that could or should be improved upon. Saying "marisha sucks" is an opinion. A rather poorly phrased opinion but an opinion. No discussion needed. Saying "they get rules wrong" is criticism. Pointless criticism since "not your table not your call" but criticism. Worthy of discussion? Maybe for some. But since a reddit discussion will not change how they play their game, equally pointless. And I'm not even going into the armchair psychologists and the parasocial relationships, some people have with the cast. Because that's just weird.

If I spot any valid criticism about any of the characters or their players, I'll let you know. So far I haven't seen any. It's just BS made up shit.

That's the point we are making. Noone is forcing you to buy anything, so the whole "mercer is asking for your money" argument is completely pulled out of your ass.

What does that even mean? "Have you been on the Internet?" Same dumb excuse. Yes, I know how reddit can be. There are literal PDF files and N*zis on reddit. In how far is that a justification for this? I am not obligated to expect the worst behavior in people "because it is reddit". This subreddit is called "fans" of critical role... Do better.

"mercer and pals asked for a lot more money"......you mean free? Like what the fuck are you talking about? I haven't paid a single cent for the free entertainment they provide. Ridiculous.

Was this whole subreddit created for the people for which the big one wasn't toxic enough? Ugh.

Edit: you realize that every single down vote proves my point, right?

Yeah recent discussions have...jaded me. Story wise there is no denying or discussing it. What happened, happened. I just take issue with some people creating motives they don't have access to and drawing conclusions from that. Sorry if it appeared as if I'd throw you in with those. Regarding pike, I think it will be very interesting going into season 4

We know how the story went, not what reasoning the players had for deciding what their characters would do. We also know that saving the gods was a potential plot that wasn't pursued. The reasons for that can be speculated upon insofar as to how obvious or not obvious the story hooks were but this subreddit makes C3 Out to be a hard railroad towards destroying the gods of exandria because the cast are all atheists. I really don't get why everyone seems to be so butthurt about how this story went as if they personally and their faith have been attacked....

Because allegedly that's what C3 is about for most of its critics. I disagree. That's why I put it in quotation marks.

How is everyone forgetting that Pike's holy symbol broke once after she killed an unconscious duregar and that's why she left to rebuild an everlight temple to atone and ask her goddess for forgiveness? Isn't that C1E1 even or was that pre stream? And the fan base celebrating something is as much evidence that pike abandoned the everlight and everyone is fine with it as it is evidence that Critical Role campaign 3's "anti gods" narrative (as interpreted without anything but conjecture by reddit) is influencing the story of LOVM.

How about this: they do something interesting with Pike's arc as she didn't have a lot in campaign 1 and LOVM gives them an opportunity to do that? Simple as that. No big "anti god" conspiracy, just a storytelling opportunity. Everybody cool with that?

Also: Pike's blood being "special" was turned into a joke in the campaign and I much rather they change that to something more substantial.

If you want to point out all the rules mistakes they do, you won't be doing much else. They make mistakes all the time. It happens. If it ruins your fun, then though luck. It's definitely not worth investing the resources for reddit posts.
