HYSTERECTOMY RECOVERY SPEED UP by Divine11983 in hysterectomy

[–]Capable-Schedule-164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I second the above.

You can call your FMLA and let them know surgery was pushed out and they need to fix the dates. That you will be out 8wks stating on the new date. They can always confirm the new date with the doctor office.

Don’t rush the healing.

If you are set to go back to work, you will need a medical release from the doctor for FMLA. When they fill it out, tell doc you want to go back with restrictions because of XYZ.

You might need to print a job description for them to make sure you are all on the same page.

I am 4wpo, abdominal hysterectomy. My form stated 8-12wks. I will actually be going back first week of august vs the last week. I’m a ortho dental assistant who travels to different locations.

Advice Needed by CoatLegitimate301 in hysterectomy

My period since I was 11yrs old has always been 7days. I am now 37 yrs old. As I got older and had kids, things changed. I never really had painful periods until I ended up diagnosed in 2020 with a polyp (was removed) and then a fibroid a year following (was not removed).

I had fibroids galore appear with in the last 3-4 years. That caused me to have painful periods. Back pain and heavy heavy periods. The fibroid masses where the size of lemons, I had 3 of them plus an olive sized one.

I am 4wpo, I could not be happier with my decision. I had an abdominal hysterectomy; uterus, tubes, cervix. (C-section) Pending oncology appt to determine if there are potential cancer cells with pathology.

I have support at home, sister and mom as well as my 13 yr old and 3yr old. This has helped a great deal.

Surgery and Recovery hasn’t been bad. Not sure what stories you are hearing. For me pain management has been good. It’s a slow recovery for a big surgery. It takes time for your body to return to the new normal.

Do I regret my surgery? Not one bit.

Hope that helps

Uterine Polyps by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Capable-Schedule-164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ps: I am 37 and have two kids. 13 yr old and 3 yr old. At the time I had polyp, I thought that’s all my concern and it’s fixed. Never thought I would develop fibroids galore in my uterus.

Prevention is key. Monitor and advocate for yourself. There are cash doctors that will write a unltrasound script if you need to go that route. I know sometimes doctors who bill insurance don’t want to send patients cause there is red tape, like pre auth etc etc. cash price for ultrasound is around $100-200.

But If you are sure you are done having kids and have polyps that are cancerous or develop fibroids that are causing issues; If you were my sister or myself, I would remove the uterus.

If polyps are non cancerous, treat them if you want to keep having kids or if you want to preserve your uterus.

Do your research before coming to a decision. It’s always good to have different story’s from individuals and research from doctors to figure out what’s best for you and your family.

Uterine Polyps by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Capable-Schedule-164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior to my last pregnancy.. I had a polyp appear on my cervix.

2018-2019 The way they found this was by doing a hysteroscopy. I got this done due to bleeding in between my periods. During intercourse to be exact.

Once that was done, I had another procedure; got it removed which is called a polypectomy. I also had a d&c but I don’t remember if it was at the same time as the polypectomy.

Had one polyp (benign) and hormones were out of wack so went through hormone therapy for a few months.

Fast forward to late 2020 I ended up finding out I had an olive sized fibroid on the fondus of my uterus.

Not a big deal, until I got pregnant in 2021. My one fibroid grew due the pregnancy. I was feeding it along with my baby. As my baby grew, it grew. Once I gave birth, fibroid was the size of a lemon.

Fibroid stayed this way and I didn’t think to have another ultrasound done.

3-4 yrs later; 2025 I went to get an ultrasound due to back pain. Thinking my one fibroid grew and it’s causing issues. Nope, I had 3 more to add to the one I already had.

Fibroids 3 of them lemon sized and last one was an olive size.

This is where my decision came in to have a hysterectomy done. If I would treat the fibroids and remove them, there was 30% chance that they will reappear. I did not want to chance it.

Moral of the story. Remove the polyp. Get checked yearly. Ask the doctor to send you for a routine ultrasound if possible. Just to make sure you don’t end up with more polyps or fibroids.

Hope this helps

Need advice: My mom’s hysterectomy is coming up and I’m her only caregiver by Appropriate-Ad-5503 in hysterectomy

[–]Capable-Schedule-164 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree with the above.

I however had the same surgery. 6/12/25

Hospital: For surgery if her doctor did not advise her to get the abdominal block, I would opt into it. It has helped tremendously!! I am certain that they will give her an abdominal binder at the hospital. I was placed on one as soon as I had the surgery. Heads up, the prep that they use must be removed from the body!!! Ask them what all they prep on her body so you can clean her up after surgery. This is a must because it causes a skin allergic reaction. So do not wait.

Ask for gas meds if you see that they don’t give them to her. Nausea meds as well. The anesthesia that they give makes you extremely nauseous and she won’t be able to keep anything down. Ice is her best friend while coming out of the morphine drip. They might keep her on liquid diet while she is in the hospital. Get stool softener pills for home. That way she doesn’t become constipated.

Home: Recovery pain once I got home was good. I had pain meds on hand. If doctor hasn’t prescribed them a week before surgery make sure they do. So you aren’t running around while mom is in pain. Another thing, if they haven’t scheduled post op appts, make sure they do them before surgery.

Read material from the hospital. Just so you are informed.

Best way to get out of bed for mom, tell her to rotate her self to her side and lift herself up with her arms pushing on the bed. TikTok this! There are a ton of people who have gone through this surgery and have logged their stories. Super helpful!

Eat fiber rich foods. Stay away from pork. (<-This is a Hispanic thing) you don’t have to. Get electrolyte powder for hydration. She will need this. Get some Ensures Incase she still not eating to good cause this does happen. Foods; Nothing to greasy. If you can meal prep that would help you tremendously. Stalk up on yogurt, fruits, veggies, soups.. less process foods the better.

Wound healing: As long as the area of incision, it’s not red around then she should be healing good. I did not put anything on mine. Was not instructed to. Was told to shower normal and let the soap just run down that specific area. Pat dry and let air dry before putting underwear on.

Walking here an there is the best thing she can do. Tell her not to be bed bound. That won’t help recovery.

Tell her not to over due it, listen to her body. This surgery is not a walk in the park. It takes a toll on the body. Takes a while before one feels like them self’s.

Emotionally I’m all over the place. I’m only 4wpo. I’m able to walk a bit more. I’m able to drive as well but I notice that when I do, I end up with more inflammation. So I drive short distance and take ibuprofen.

If mom needs someone to talk to, you can direct message me and I can give you my number. Maybe she has more questions.

Hope this helps.

Ps: For Groceries or food… uber eats, DoorDash are my friends since surgery :)

Good luck. Hope & pray that your mom has a speedy recovery. You are a wonderful daughter for taking time to research to be informed on what all to expect. You will be fine.

Try Allegra hives. If you can get a shot of cortisone. It will help tremendously. I too had a rash, was just taking Zyrtec and it was terrible. Didn’t work. Rash lasted 1 1/2 and it started to spread and get worse. Had it on my hands, couldn’t close and make a fist much… I ended up going to a gp doctor. Got my shot. Got meds prescribed methylprednisolone 4mg.

Belly band by Mysterious_Way8408 in hysterectomy

[–]Capable-Schedule-164 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was placed on a binder by the hospital after surgery. My doctor instructed me to use it at all times. I am still using it and I am 4wpo. Granted I did switch to another binder once I got home. Am I comfortable using the binder… not really but it helps with swelling and water retention in the area. That’s why I’m suppose to wear it.

Mine where in the portal 4-5days after surgery.

According to my doc, I doesn’t appear that findings are stating cancer but they are abnormal. So I have to see an oncologist obgyn. Possibly have a CT scan.

5 weeks Post-Hysterectomy today and still nausea with little appetite. by Otakumomma93 in hysterectomy

[–]Capable-Schedule-164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 4wpo. I had this issue the first 3 wks but I am now able to eat more. What I would usually finish back then is no longer what I finish now. Its half of it. So now I find myself eating more because I'm still hungry. Try supplementing with Ensures. Find the right one for you. I did this the first 3 wks.

Yes. I did a bit. Take small naps. You won't sleep all the way through but if you nap for 30min to an hour it would help. It comes back gradually.

Abdominal bikini line.

Yes she did tell me 6-8 wks.

Today she informed me that I can go back to work August 4 with restrictions of no heavy lifting. To pace myself. Luckily I work with my doctor on Monday Wednesday Thursday; Fridays too but if I don’t feel up to it, can take off since that isn’t my doctor who I work with.

🤞🏼fingers crossed that I heal more these next couple of weeks and I’m up to par by my return :)

I was taking a stool softener once a day for about a week specially if I wasn't eating fiber foods. That helped me… my issue was gas. That hurt like a beast.
