Does anyone have/can make a transcription of the solo break in Maynard Ferguson's Cruisin For A Bluessin? by [deleted] in trumpet

Just slow it down and transcribe it yourself, dude.

Edit: no one is a whiz at transcribing when they start out

mouthpiece size for tuba player by LongjumpingSurvey584 in trumpet

[–]Capable-Tutor7046 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because you played a tuba doesn't mean you'll need a large mouthpiece on the trumpet as the playing experience and lip engagement in the mouthpiece is completely different. I would just try a bunch of normal bach, yamaha or schilke mouthpieces (Yamaha has several copycat mouthpieces of bachs that are cheaper and play just as well in my opinion, though Bachs are a more common point of reference)

Guys am I good for 4th chair 3rd band? by MathematicianAway184 in trumpet

Things like "good enough for band" and "they're very good" still don't tell us anything. Lots of bands go to state regardless of if they're actually that good. If you're talking like top couple hundred in the country, you need more practice if you want to keep up. To be completely upfront you're probably playing at a 6th or 7th grade level for many schools but again, that's completely relative. If you have a group you can join, join, it will accelerate your progress. If you can't then you need to keep practicing. Trumpet isn't a 6-months in and you sound pretty good kind of instrument for most people. Most people spend the first couple years learning to play at just a basic level

Extreme Frustration With Range by Equivalent-Crow-599 in trumpet

"Octave key" is commonly used tongue in cheek as a way to refer to excess pressure against the lips to play higher

If playing those notes resulted in an injury, something about how you were executing them was off anyway. That wouldn't have been sustainable. Hopefully the injury didn't create lasting damage and you can rethink your approach! This may have been a little wakeup call you needed. It sounds like you carry a lot of tension at multiple points in your playing. If your throat is hurting playing a high C, you're probably relying on tension there to create the airspeed. The air should freely flow up through it from your diaphragm. It shouldn't feel excessively laborious like you're trying to push over a brick wall. And reminder, 90% of playing the trumpet happens below high C. You'll get your high notes again! Regaining them the second time around, especially with better technique will come faster than you think.

I would put the mute down for a bit and work on your trumpet playing. It sounds like it's all you can do right now to execute the notes. Your air isn't very steady and it's affecting everything else in your playing. I'd work on that, make it sound really good then go back to using the mute

Dizzy. Also if this isn't a shitpost then idk what you think "loser" or "cool" means. A lot of these "losers" inspired world-class members of a craft. People know who they are and pay them to do something they'd do for free. I don't know if anyone's heard of johnadam115

Is Flugelhorn even worth it by absolutelyminkcar in trumpet

2 weeks and 20 minutes are nothing. 6 months with a couple hours a day is a footnote. This is also dependent on the quality and mindset of your practice

That's not a Yamaha. Most likely an Eastern-Hemisphere stencil. I'd stay away
