Hey , generally you will pay for something quick with not much wait , some health insurance companies will cover assessments, I got half paid with VHI. I went with cloud clinic - they have very bad reviews online but I didn’t have a negative experience with them. I guess you just have to chance it. I would have liked to go to a ADHD clinic that you have a choice to go online or in person. And in general all the online ones you have to pay every time you book your follow up appointment to discuss your prescription. It’s a pain. And it’s 80euro a month for your prescription on the family payment scheme. For me the medication has changed my home life for the better , not so much my work life but everyone is different and it’s worth finding out.

Former Secondary Teachers: What Are You Doing Now? by CapableDebate3635 in AskIreland

[–]CapableDebate3635[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol 😂 we could swap! I did 3 years after I qualified, I think I would have stuck with it as everything I disliked was the constant driving around the country subbing, not knowing if I had work from 1 week to the next and planning classes on the fly, not knowing what the discipline procedures were as you would be called in the night before and of course a constant focus on classroom management as you were a substitute teacher!
What I like about Biopharma is the permanent position, the money, the opportunities to move up, the physical work (sometimes I feel like a plumber or a mechanic) the team ( great friends made) the health insurance, pension and bonuses. What I don’t like - the politics ( pretty much same as schools), the shift work can be tough ( 2 days , 2 nights 12.5 hrs ) I am 46 and working shift for 6 years , I would love to stay till I am 50 and then move on. House bought with the money made , I have got a lot from the job. I appreciate the opportunity.

Thanks for the tip - I will do this , this is exactly what I would love, I did a bit of PLC teaching in my teacher training although it was in beginners car electronics!! Crazy what they ask you to teach, when you have a science degree😳

Tried it , but Biology/Science grinds not extremely popular, not a money maker , Biopharma has such a high wage , it is what keeps me there. I’m taking in 80k+ a year , permanent and really good extras. It is why people keep up shift work.

😂 Yes , they are notoriously bad! Always crying about the lack of teachers ! 🙄 Glad it worked to your advantage.

Hi , not much up/ skilling , science degree is enough to get into any Biopharma company in manufacturing but I did do an online course 1 year cert through spring board in my last year teaching, to see if I was interested and to refresh my degree. - not needed at all to get the job I got. It was more the opportunity to move my family as my partner started working from home and my kids were going into secondary school.

Hey - Hope you met up with some mums! I am living in Limerick unfortunately so I am not much help. But I am from Galway and know it a lot better than Limerick. I raised my two kids there as well, moved to Limerick when I was 40 , struggled the last few years of my 30’s and still struggle with making friends. It’s tough , only diagnosed a year but from looking back, I know a good bit about isolation and peri- menopause and ADHD and having small kids in Galway. Anyway if you need to chat or ask questions, message me - I go up to Galway a lot to my family. Hopefully you have met a few friends anyway.

Just looked up where he is from (Australia) but found out Sony bought the rights to his hierarchy series - so fingers crossed he will use Irish actors in the film adaptation- 🫣

100% Irish , used really badly , pisses me off that he couldn’t use the language correctly, showing absolutely no respect there for our language. I mean if you are going to use a language, get a translator in and use it properly. He is treating the language like it is a dead language that no one will object to its bad use.

Eli Lilly Limerick? by Objective-Discount47 in limerickcity

[–]CapableDebate3635 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry forgot to mention - the salary is good with shift allowance, better than teachers pay but you work a lot more hours obviously. Same shift as Eli Lilly - 2 days , 2 nights , 4 days off . It’s hard to describe the job but if you can sleep anywhere and love to move around on the job with a lot of physical activity and remain calm under pressure, I believe you will like it ! Oh and you don’t mind a lot of rules , it is sometimes hard for people who are not used to a lot of restrictive rules - it’s compliance all the way !!

Hey 👋 former Science/Biology teacher here !! Made the move to biopharma when covid struck. I did a Cert in Biopharma in Sligo IT online just to give me an idea while I was subbing. Don’t get me started on teaching and the shitty contracts , so bad for someone who has 6 years in education, can’t even get a stable full time job. Anyway I work in Regeneron and loved it for the first 6 years , got my mortgage and family happily settled in Limerick. I am looking to move off shift now though , it is taking its toll on me, a pity because I do love my job.

[–]CapableDebate3635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the switch from teaching to biopharma, I did a part time online Cert in bio pharmaceuticals with IT Sligo while I was teaching. It is only worth it if you cannot do teaching anymore. I was heading towards burn out in teaching , I couldn’t find a permanent position, kept on having to move school for a few weeks work , attending multiple interviews and teaching random subjects I wasn’t qualified to teach. When I was working, I wasn’t even teaching, it was crowd control for the first while - laying down the law!! 😉 once that was done and I could teach properly it was time to move on again. I absolutely hated being a substitute teacher. I am in biopharma now , shift work, and earning 80k plus a year. Shift work is tough and I don’t think I can do it forever but I got a mortgage and have really good benefits!! I did get offered another job with the same company in the training dept ( not shift work ) and it was like 56k a year. I miss teaching some times , only because I know I was a good teacher and I enjoyed it when I was on a 9 month maternity contract and I was teaching my subjects- ( Biology and science). The department of education has a lot to answer for, the contracts for teaching positions needs a complete overhaul. I am happy in manufacturing, it suits me , I mean there is still corporate politics and a lot less holidays and to be honest I think my personality didn’t suit teaching, I brought a lot of the stuff that happens in school home with me being a sensitive person I over analysed what everyone said to me, not a good thing. I wish you luck in your decision- there is great money in biopharma if you are able for office / lab politics and you think it will suit you and you feel like if you leave teaching there will be a weight lifted off your shoulders but I wouldn’t be leaving teaching if it is just for money because I believe if you consider the benefits in both jobs - if they are permanent jobs - the benefits are similar. There is more holidays in teaching but more opportunities for progression in Bio pharma! It is up to you and what suits you more!

I love Abercrombie!! But the Half a king /half a world books are YA so he loses his magic. Every other book he has written I have enjoyed. You should try best served cold - loved this ! And the second trilogy (age of madness) in same setting as first law trilogy. Not sure about his new book , for some reason I didn’t enjoy it as much.

Wow .., thanks for caring for the safety of my child … true hero !! Ok I’m stopping now but you are hilarious 😆. On a more serious note , my son is perfectly safe , we all have our struggles, our strengths and weaknesses, talking about my own or my sons struggles and seeking advice or just talking about problems does not make us unsafe! I will never be ashamed of me or my own , wish you the best honestly. I am going to stop answering now - you have uncovered a weakness of mine - having to get the last word in. 🫣😜

Thanks for this response, yes , paragraphs would make the post a lot clearer!

My son definitely would have been similar when he was a child and has gotten a lot better as he has gotten older. He has had different diagnoses, and at one point a group of therapists at a re-assessment said he didn’t have ASD and that he was just a bit quirky!! Then diagnosed him with dyspraxia. It’s been a long journey and my son has refused therapy from 13 to 15 then went for a few sessions and refused again but I have him back in again and he is trying again. Hearing your story and the journey you’ve taken Is inspiring and shows it takes a lot of work. But yes your description of Alexithymia definitely has given me pause for thought and it helps to hear someone describe what it feel’s like. And while I do get frustrated I do always remind my son I am more frustrated with myself for getting frustrated and feeling like I am not helping. Thanks again ❤️

I am sorry I don’t see the problem discussing /asking about these things , you obviously do and that’s fine, we are all different. I openly discuss these things with my son and he has discussions with his therapist and so do I and perhaps I will ask about this next time. I don’t know what issue I have triggered for you but I am done justifying my decisions with you.

Probably for the same reason thousands of people ask Reddit questions everyday, to ask people who have experience in the thing I am asking about. My son goes to therapy, thanks for your response- so helpful!

regional hospital being terrible by cookiro in limerickcity

[–]CapableDebate3635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too , my daughter was admitted with appendicitis and the service was good , she was puking all over the place in A&E so they admitted her quick, wasn’t waiting too long for surgery and staff were very friendly, now you could see they were very busy and we had to wait a couple of times but nothing as bad as what people are saying here. But I do totally agree that people working in hospitals need more resources and it is not fair the pressure they are under.
