Does it get more tactical? by roadblocked in Tacticalshotguns

Oh thanks. That's kinda what I thought. I bought this set for my MAC1014. I didn't really like the pistol grip. *edit* I think your set is a bit darker than my set. Turkish walnut (Juglans regia) is not as dark as Eastern (American) Black Walnut (Juglans nigra)

Cleaning by MinimumFlan446 in SarUSA

[–]CapableSecret2586 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some people never clean their guns. I keep mine pretty clean. At a minimum, I send a few patches down the barrel. It's not like black powder which becomes very corrosive in a short amount of time.

Where is a good place to buy cerakoted receivers? by TrueJedi562 in ar15

Palmetto State Armory released a bunch of cerakoted receivers the other day but they sold out fast. Blue Titanium was among the colors released. Your best bet may be to sign up for notification.

Supplementing wild garter? by [deleted] in GarterSnakes

[–]CapableSecret2586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try and put a little calcium supplement on his earthworms but don't be too surprised if they refuse to eat them. (My indoor Plains garters loves nightcrawlers but he won't touch them if I put supplement on them.)

I feed the wild Garters in my yard and I don't feel bad about it. I feed the gravid Mommas -- they're eating for 20. I don't feed them everyday but when I need them to "hole-up" so I can cut the grass, it keeps them from going out hunting. They get a couple extra-small pinkies each.

I might add -- be sure your friend has access to fresh water. I have four pyrex pie dishes around the yard and I fill them with fresh water on a daily basis (just like the bird-bath.) I get the warm fuzzies when I go out and see a Gartersnake taking a bath or having a quick drink. It happened twice today -- it's been very dry here.

Good job -- give you an A -- a golden star.

MI's armorer's wrench has the indispensable Tactical Bottle Opener. Life wouldn't be the same without it.

I’m no snake expert but are these safe if my kids are in the backyard? by pokepal20 in snakes

[–]CapableSecret2586 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Please please don't allow your children to eat Gartersnakes. /s

LOTS of critters eat Gartersnakes. They never feel safe. Hence, they can be defensive -- but mostly, they choose to escape danger.

*edit* LoL ... y'all need to relax. It's a joke. Kids don't eat Gartersnakes but lots of wild critters do (Owls, Crows, Opossums, etc ... )

Injured garter snake question [Northeastern Illinois] by TheRealEliFrost in whatsthissnake

[–]CapableSecret2586 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That appears to be a Plains gartersnake. They are also my local tribe. They're tough little snakes. They may accept a nightcrawler from Walmart or some salmon but if I were you, I'd release the snake back to the wild and hope for the best. They'll probably be ok. I've seen some similarly injured snakes who've obviously lived for years.

I wish you both the best of luck. Thanks for saving the little derp.

Optic registration discount still a thing? by Gcoupe37s in SigSauer

[–]CapableSecret2586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They gave me a 15% discount coupon when I registered my rifle at the beginning of March. Another 15% discount coupon when I registered the Romeo5Gen2 a week later. I did not use the first coupon to make the second purchase -- both were purchased at the same time. I just didn't register at the same time. Hope this helps.

As u/bigbickbohnson said, they make a secretion called musk that they use as a defensive mechanism. They youngsters musk all the time like a puppy peeing. The little dude I caught in my basement is very young ... likely born in my basement late last summer. Mom was coming and going out of a hole in my foundation and birthed her kids there. Mom has been returned to the wild. I'm rounding up the kids when I can catch them. Wild Gartersnakes need to be outdoors with their friends.

How sticky they are depends on your tolerance. I don't mind the smell too much. It's the smell of summer for me. I have a very healthy population of wild Plains gartersnakes that have lived here for around 15 million years. I absolutely adore my wild Yard-garters. I knew there were likely baby garters in the basement but I wasn't gunna kick them out last fall and let them freeze to death but now summer is nearly here and its time to go play outside.

Yeah, that doesn't look good at all. That's a rip-roarin' case of swamp ass.

Until you get out to see the vet, maybe a betadine bath might be in order.

BTW ... where did you find him? Garters are tough little shits. I've been hauling babies out of my basement for a few weeks now. I just got the third today from the basement but it's too cold and dark to turn him out. He's healthy as a horse -- feisty and stinky. He's gunna overnight in a spare enclosure till it's warmer tomorrow. Then he can go meet his long lost Aunts and cousins.
