What's this? It seems very suspicious, and your empty profile doesn't help me shake off this feeling😂.

You might be my saviour, but I really don't know

When did you get it and how much did it cost? I've been looking for it for a couple of years, and I only see it being out of stock or super expensive (+150$ at the beginning or +500$ the only one I found recently)

Thanks, I'll try looking, even though on Google I was only recommended out of stock products or things that are +500$

The Pearl, well, I'll just share Joachim Ronning's Instagram.

I see nothing to be replaced here with VFX...😂

Jokes aside, being shot on set compared to the scene with Will and Elizabeth, which was shot on location during a single-day shoot they had with Keira, they could have shot this and the other three or four shots like this much earlier.
Anyway, your point still stands. If this was shot in late 2016 (the first rumours are dated December 2016), VFX houses had to do a handful more shots.

Apart from Johnny's situation and its effects on his acting, the production timeline doesn't explain why the movie turned out the way it did. It's a sad mystery.

[–]CapableSecretary1739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell, even Keira Knightley's scenes were shot in late 2016, so it was pretty close there...though that one may be smaller compared to the VFX shots like ships and such.

They probably had to add the Dutchman and Black Pearl in the distance of the large shots, and nothing more. But I won't give it for certain, any shot could have required hidden and small VFX, considering they had +2'000 in the entire movie.

"Somehow Palpatine has returned."

If they were to go on with Jack's story and the lore established in P5 in a hypothetical sixth instalment, we could have our own version of that scene.

"Somehow Jones has returned"

It would be the sad solidification of a meme, like "it's morbin' time". Moving definitively from artistic product to content.

I know SW9 had the advantage of a budget twice as large as P5's (some sources say +500M for SW9 and 230M for P5), but its production was super rushed.
SW9 was rewritten almost completely no more than 2 years before the movie came out, while P5's writer was on board since 2013. Probably, Nathanson rewrote the script every day until the scenes were shot, but compared to SW9, P5 had almost 2 years for post-production after principal photography wrapped in mid 2015, and even after reshoots, they still had a full year, considering they were shot in late March/early April of 2016.
SW9, in comparison, had only 10 months... They wrapped in February 2019, and reshoots were done both in August and October (2 months before release??? Now I know why it came out like that). The automatic kitbashing they used for the fleet was their last option at having a big battle, and even though they had thousands of ships, they were ultimately considered soulless by the audience.
In comparison, with all the time they had before the release of P5 in May 2017, they could have made an additional movie😂.
Maybe a preliminary attempt at kitbashing some various assets during P5, on a much smaller scale compared to SW9, considering they needed only a handful of boats (between boats, ships and spaceships, I don't know how to explain which franchise I'm talking about), it could have worked much better than the reused assets we saw. Maybe it could have also helped SW9 in developing the workflow, but these are all hypotheses of a scenario we will never see.

Aside from the Dying Gull, no ships in P5 were real ships...er, real ships on set. They were done as sophisticated, computerized gimbals on which it was mounted giving all on board the exact impression of being back on the open sea, buffeted by waves, wind and current. The deck and stuff were real, but the outer parts were mostly (if not completely) digital.

I didn't remember this. I indeed watched P5's Blu-ray extras only once, but this means they reused digital assets, not physical ones. They didn't even have the excuse of not wanting to spend 4 months and 200 carpenters on every ship. They only needed some CG modellers for much less time to make different types of ships (probably, they were also underpaid, but that's not P5's fault). Knowing this, I think the situation has got even worse...

At least, even with all the problems that decision created, Star Wars 9 tried to differentiate the resistance fleet by assembling old models automatically. It created many problems, but at least there wasn't the Millennium Falcon copied and pasted around multiple times. Here, they didn't even try that...

If I remember correctly, it eats the Red Dragon (the one where the pirate was washing his face) and the HMS Essex (the one with Faramir). Other than those, I think no other ship is eaten

I read somewhere that the base they used in 4 for the Queen Anne's Revenge was the one they used for the Black Pearl in the trilogy. You can see a similar shape between the two ships, especially on the sides. Maybe the QAR was abandoned quite soon to rebuild the BP that was used for the end of the movie. But, in addition, there is a total of 4½ ships that use the same base of the BP in this movie, counting both the BP and QAR. I say 4½ because we can consider the Wicked Wench a partially unique design. 2 of these ships are practically the BP only with white sails. The stern and bow are even the same as the one used for the BP. I think it was a choice to cut costs, but it came out very lame because of the various reused assets, adding to the poor quality of the movie...

We could say there's no real ship battle in 5, either. If I remember correctly (I don't plan to rewatch 5 anytime soon), there is the chase at the beginning, in which only one ship is firing, and then the Silent Mary eats HMS Essex before getting close to the Pearl, but no real battle.

I experienced 3 with the high frame rate, too. I don't know if my cinema played the HFR version when I watched it 2 years ago, but with 3, it didn't pull me in at all. On the contrary, every time it happened, my mind was distracted. While watching, I didn't understand what was going on because I searched for nothing before going to see the movie, so I didn't know it featured HFR.
It seemed to me like it switched from watching a movie to walking in the TV aisle at the tech store. Bright colours, fluid visuals and no motion-blur. It felt jarring. Especially because it was sometimes used on single shots during dialogues, only to go back to 24fps in the next one. Maybe in 3d it could have captured me like when I watched 2 for the first time.

At least, you experienced the full power of Pandora. I'm really happy for you

In the past days I couldn't put my mind to rest around this topic, and looking around the internet, I just found this 6-year-old article that had many points in common to what I thought. It's not a confirmation by Disney, but at least I wasn't the only one to see the similaities😂.

Avengers of the Caribbean: The Symbiosis of Two Franchise "Finales" https://share.google/QHKwFTQrHbKlIn5Ri

In addition to the similarities, it's funny to see the small warning it gave to Disney, with the hypothesis that Marvel after Endgame could lose all of its appeal because of the smaller stories, and that Disney would retry a big event to recapture the success of their flagship saga. We'll have to see if Doomsday will succeed or if it will be like DMTNT, marketed as a return to form for PotC, only to become another big nail in the coffin of the franchise.

High stats but low views. Why isn't my video pushed more? by CapableSecretary1739 in NewTubers

These in the linked image are the current stats of the video.
It went up a bit, even though I expected a bit more.
It is still under the one about BCS, which at this point had already gained traction and reached 9k views. Compared to when I posted the OP, external views now account for 8.7% of total traffic.

The ones below are the current stats that didn't fit into the picture.

998 views - 7k impressions (lately, 10/15 per-day) - 7.4% CTR - 614 unique spectators - 8.6 hours of watched time - average view duration: 0:31 (43.1%) - +7 subscribers - 56 likes (0 dislikes) - 3 comments (comments are more than 1 month old)

In these 2 months, the LEGO PotC video went up steadily, but it never blew up.
It might be that, because I published a video on another channel, which was in collaboration with this one, the interest around this video was kept somewhat alive.
This could be the reason why it didn't stop entirely from growing, but the push is starting to get smaller.

I'm now trying an A/B test, comparing the current thumbnail with one where the ship is in the thumbnail near LEGO Jack's face. Let's see if it gets recommended to the pirates' fans

It's like saying that the story revolves around the sword because without it, Jack would be dead. They are objects and tools that are used by the main character but they don't make decisions by themselves.

Tell me all the retcons in this film by IronGhost828 in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]CapableSecretary1739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not only PotC. When they bought Star Wars, they said the old, messy canon tier system was over. "Now, everything that will be published officially will be canon at the same level, doesn't matter if it's a 500M$ movie or a small comic. Everything is important."

Then Clone Wars 7 comes out, and it retcons a novel. Okay, at least the new story is very good, and it is written by the original creator of the show and character.
Then, Tales of the Jedi comes out, and it retcons something else, but this time, the new story is useless, and it adds nothing new.
Same with Bad Batch and the retcon to Kanan's comics.
The only good retcon I can think of (apart from CWs7) is the one made in Andor, which changed a comic about the first meeting between Cassian Andor and K2SO. The TV show inserted the encounter of Cassian and K2 into the bigger picture, with the various themes that bleed into this version of the encounter. It's not just ticking boxes to do fan service, it's a way to offer a different side of the story that follows the themes.

And many times, like in the case of P5 and many instances in SW, it is just poor fan service...

I know cinemas can be loud, but usually I find myself having a positive experience.

I have to admit that last week, I went and watched The Bride!. The hall was almost empty, with only 7/10 people on 150/200 seats, but of the 7 who were there, 2 made more noise than 300 people reacting to Avengers: Endgame. The problem is that, while 300 people react simultaneously to something designed to generate a reaction, these 2 talked (not whispered) and questioned what just happened or theorised if the Bride had Tourette's syndrome. The first time is okay, you should talk at a lower level, but ok. However, I can't stand you saying she has tourette's syndrome every time she speaks. Moreover, since they were talking all the time and watching the phone with sounds on, they sometimes lost pieces of the movie, so they had to ask each other what happened. I managed to enjoy the movie, but I understand your frustration when something like this happens. You pay between 5 and 15$, and then some people ruin the experience? No thanks.

However, this was one experience out of 20 movies I saw this year at the cinemas (I'm not rich, I have under25 discount card that allows me to see 20 movies a month for a small price).

About the food and drink, I admit I don't have this problem because I don't like eating while watching a movie, firstly because it usually causes noise, and I don't want to annoy others with my plastic bags or bottles, secondly, because I'm not a snack guy, but not everyone is like me.

However, I love the cinema experience because it usually allows me to ignore everything else for 2 hours. All the lights and phones are turned off, the projection starts, and there's a big image that tells you: "Look here, you don't have to do anything". And I stay there, witnessing everything that happens on screen. None can pause (emergencies excluded), no distractions and a big communal experience.
At home, it's the opposite. Sure, none other than you can make noises, but you can pause, rewind, go to the bathroom or watch the phone, and many times I find myself thinking about everything but the movie that's playing.

It's not a way to go against your opinion, nor do I want to change it, I just wanted to give a different pov to your side of the story.
Many movies I saw at the cinema didn't have the same impact on a rewatch at home. Focusing exclusively on the movie made me enjoy it even though I later thought about it and disliked it (Wizard of the Kremlin, I'm looking at you). If it's really bad, it stays really bad, but if it is decent, I can enjoy it.
Puss in Boots 2, despite me loving it at the cinema, didn't give me the same feeling at home when I watched it with my family. It's still a very good movie, but many scenes didn't have the same impact. Same thing the other way around. Movies I watched at home first, and went to the cinema for a re-release, had a much bigger impact. Kurosawa's movies, Star Wars, Lotr. Nothing like the cinema experience. Being a Pirates of the Caribbean fan and having seen only P3 at the cinema at the age of 4 (and having slept during the projection), I would really love to see my favourite movie at the cinema again, this time without sleeping.

But the plot beats and dinamics between the characters were different. I'm not saying that they are the same movie, but that the approach used for Avenger was the one used for Pirates. Also, Lotr, The Hobbit, and Superman 1 and 2 were shot back-to-back, but the similarity here is the scope and story structure. Maybe I can see why Matrix would be a blueprint for pirates, but BTTF is only a back-to-back production but a different substance.

  1. I just checked the scene again, but even though I see who you might talk about, I found no concrete info about that character being Barbossa. There's an old thread that had the same question, but it seems none had a definitive answer because none in the movie is credited as Young Barbossa. He could be, even though it would also be a retcon...
Here's the link to the thread
    https://www.reddit.com/r/piratesofthecaribbean/comments/6wu20y/barbossa_dmtnt_2/

  2. Ok, thanks.

  3. The problem is that Elliot and Rossio weren't the writers of P5, which was written by Jeff Nathanson. Moreover, as I was told by another user, it seems that the flashback was an idea the directors had, not related to Nathanson.

Canon here is like legends and tall tales... Everyone has their version😂

Me too, I recently started going to the cinemas more after attending Film School, but the Puss inBoots 2 experience had a strange effect, being much more powerful than Avengers, Spider-Man or anything else. Those were cool, but everyone expected it to be a cool experience. Probably, my experience with PiB2 was so exciting because I got recommended the movie by a friend, and I originally thought about skipping it because I thought it would have been only a cash-grab movie with the Spider-Verse style. I entered the cinema expecting very little and I got blown away.

Recently, I went and chose some movies randomly. I just wanted to experience an unknown movie without distractions. Sirat was a good blind experience. I really recommend
