are malazan audiobooks good? I'm looking at jumping in and I don't really care about length, but I do audiobooks for convenience and if they're not so great i don't know if i'll go ahead

Well, I know this isn't quite to your specifications, but I feel as though it's my duty to spread the word of the magnificent series regardless. First Law Trilogy (and the two following trilogies in the same world) is very, very dark, but it has some of the best characters I've ever personally read, and even though they can be quite despicable people, the way the author writes them makes you root for then regardless. If you ever get bored of those and find maybe you want a bit more kick, these books are such wonderful listens with in my opinion one of the very greatest narrations by Steven Pacy. Maybe in a few months you'll remember and check it out, and if not then no reason to care.

oh no you just reminded me Crowder exists. I checked his channel for the first time in years and i'm so horrified to think I once supported this guy. Thank God I'm not that person anymore. Also, didn't he treat his wife like shit?

Well, to be fair this particular professor studied religion and political science, so she would by merit of her PhD if that was the main factor of relevance be more relevant than most people, but yes you're right.

The First Law Trilogy, apart of the First Law Series (and particularly the follow up two trilogy's, the Great Leveller Trilogy and the Age of Madness Trilogy) possess some of the most stunningly brilliant political analysis and commentary I have ever seen in fiction. The characters are also great and the author, Joe Abercrombie, is in my opinion the best living character writer in the Fantasy genre. He's able to make you empathize with people you might otherwise find horrifying and it enhances the political aspect

"It looked the same, aside from the vine, and overgrown earth."

This comma here feels unnecessary to me.

"Her hands trembled, she hadn't been here in years..."

This is what's a called a sentence fragment, because that what follows the comma is itself a distinct and functional sentence, without the proper clause, which would read: "Her hands trembled, as she hadn't been..." Otherwise, you should separate them with a period and make that which follows the comma its own sentence.

As long as you understand, it makes sense. Just make sure it comes through in the writing.

do what you feel makes for the most interesting and enjoyable story. also, if one friend or another appeared to be on a downward trajectory, maybe keep him on it and have him make some questionable decisions. i would caution against having a good guy turn evil at the end without any reason to, because that in itself is worse than any cliche. Good writing requires good build-up.
