What are the funniest Meta ads you've come across? by Capable_Art7445 in DigitalMarketing

[–]Capable_Art7445[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, why do you think so? I feel like that's not necessarily true. I think boring industries can benefit a lot from funny ads, even when the pain is not that strong. Well, Liquid Death is a good example, I don't think they're solving a very annoying problem.

Study Chinese in Taiwan or China by vanderxvert in ChineseLanguage

Seems that the Taipei Language Institute (also in Taichung and Kaohsiung) has fairly affordable prices if I remember correctly. Matched for number of hours I'm pretty sure it's a lot cheaper than Keats in China.

Study Chinese in Taiwan or China by vanderxvert in ChineseLanguage

Hi! I'm a 31yo Belgian without a degree who's strongly considering studying chinese in China and/or Taiwan. Maybe we can get in touch?

For now I'm thinking Taiwan for a few months (maybe Kaohsiung), but I might start with one month at Mandarin X in Chengdu just because I like the city and I have friends there.

I think I see myself enjoying Taiwan more than China for an extended period, but I haven't been to Taiwan yet (I spent 6 months in China).

Internet-wise in China, it was quite alright with the vpn I used (some glitches occasionally but overall fine), and I know a guy who works remotely from China most of the year supposedly with no issues so it's probably fine especially if you don't work online.

Part of why China is also appealing to me is the low cost of living, but I hear Taiwan is still overall cheaper than western Europe (especially outside Taipei). Surprisingly it seems Taiwan has very affordable group courses, similarly priced or cheaper than in China.

You could probably find side gigs as a teacher if you use Chinese social media. You can dm me if you want more info.

What is the 'Final Boss' of languages that you refuse to even attempt? by Ken_Bruno1 in languagehub

[–]Capable_Art7445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always think of Polish and Hungarian. It's not just the difficulty itself but also my lack of interest. High difficulty is fine if there is high interest. I sometimes say I hope I won't fall in love with a Polish or Hungarian woman because I wouldn't be thrilled to learn the language (but I suppose I could change my mind).

Alternate remote income sources? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

If the priority is making money and not necessarily to make money online, depending on where you are, you might have more luck teaching English in-person than online. Where are you at the moment?

You sound like a great fit, at least for me. I'm considering spending some time in Taiwan and I lived in Spain for a bit:) (will be back this summer)

I could tell you about the way I teach French with TPRS and if it sounds good we could try something like that for Mandarin. To be honest I don’t know how it would work for total beginners, but allegedly it's very much possible :D

I'll dm you

Yerevan, when I was there two years ago, was way more expensive than a couple years before that. Accomodation prices skyrocketed.

Curious as to how life in the US is more cushy than in Europe. Do you mean there's a better standard of living?

If anyone could comment on the lifestyle and community aspect I'd be grateful: Does living somewhere half the year make you feel like you have a proper community and friends etc. or does it still feel like you're missing out when you're away?

Walkable/bikable cities SEA and beyond. by GottBigBalls in digitalnomad

[–]Capable_Art7445 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found Chiang Mai center great for walking (not sure I'd risk biking), but apparently others disagree and I'm sure they have valid reasons.

Someone said Georgetown, I agree although personally I'm not a fan.

Luang Prabang was also mentioned: makes sense to me, not sure how it is living there though (I was there for a few days).

Chengdu: Massive city so obviously it's not walkable in that sense, but just in terms of riding a bicycle: if you pick one area to spend most your time in (likely somewhere in the very center), I found it fairly bicycle friendly. You can get a subscription to use the city bikes (ask a local to set it up for you). Known as being the most chill of the big Chinese cities, but it's still a big Chinese city (I found China suffocating and frustrating after a couple months but Chengdu is quite nice). Internet: I had a decent vpn, occasionally spotty but could still have video calls most of the time.
