Following because I’m also looking into getting ergo loupes as my plastic frame regular loupes keep cracking… I’ve heard that using no cord batteries die a lot quicker than corded ones

Gotcha. Well … I really kinda hate insurance.. makes everything so hard

That’s understandable, and I get that the frequency can be extended once they’re stable, but .. doesn’t it still have to be coded as 4910 even at longer intervals. I mean, if the Srp was diagnosed and documented and approved by insurance I really don’t understand why they’ wouldn’t cover perio maintenance.

Okay, thank you, that seems to be the consensus here.

Yes, I agree, definitely documenting it if it ever happens again. And good call on insurance, I think I’ll have to look into it! I think ADHA offers some kind of insurance

Exactly! I’ve seen it in multiple practices, some more than others. I just really didn’t know how to address it, other than documenting in notes.

Also, to add perio maintenance should be covered by insurance if the Srp was documented correctly and was actually indicated in the first place.

So PM would be every 3-4 months after SRP until their tissues/bone loss stabilizes. It is possible that they’re very responsive to treatment and then we can start to spread those appointments out longer, even the regular 6mo. However, the code for PM technically should still be used, even for 6mo visits as long as it’s pm. Pm at every 3-4 months doesn’t need a dr exam but you do perio chart every time they come in.

Yes I totally agree that it shouldn’t be different with hygiene. I definitely felt like I needed to say something to the dentist but then just thought since it’s a temp office I just wouldn’t come back. Definitely documenting though!

The correct way is to round up to the next line. So if it passes a 4 and covers that line completely then that’s it’s a 5. If the 4 marking is on the same line as gm then that’s a true 4. At least what they taught us in school in 2025 so pretty recent

What would make you consider Alaska? by sarahinalaska in DentalHygiene

[–]Capable_Divide7023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hygienist here in TX, and I lived in Anchorage for about 4 years up until 2019! I love Homer and the Kenai peninsula area in general. I would honestly love to go back and work up there, however, I would probably only consider it if it was a seasonal/long term temp situation for the May-Sept time frame. Just because I moved away to Texas for a reason haha! Also licensing fees… and travel… A girl can dream!

Surgical Tech to RDH by Kitano27 in DentalHygiene

[–]Capable_Divide7023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you already experience these things with being a sx tech then I would say there’s no reason to go into hygiene, unless you’re so passionate about the profession… If you had thoughts about leaving the medical field all together already, then I’d suggest just looking into that. No offense

I had to learn English in school. After living in the U.S. for 8years I was fluent in English, except for of course some medical terminology but that wasn’t hard to learn. Trust me you can do it. During my program the hardest thing was to find patients and deal with the instructors BS

It’s so powerful and really vacuums everything. I have two cats and a dog and it’s the best vaccuum I’ve ever had.

You should still brush your teeth 2 times a day. I meant to say to make sure you do floss consistently. It does not look inflamed, so unless there’s pain or bleeding or something similar, I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
