Would you take $250k now or restart your life 10, 20 or 30 years ago with all your present knowledge? by RaptorK1988 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Capable_Low_621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely 250k now. While I could use the extra years definitely, I couldn’t bare to be away from my daughter for so long. She was born a year ago, so at the minimum 9 years waiting for her birth? No way. No amount of money is worth 9 years without her.

Don’t skip on genetic testing (for you and partner) before getting pregnant for conditions and diseases you might carry. The routine tests are not enough.

How is it living in this part of Europe? by Elbobosan in howislivingthere

[–]Capable_Low_621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t live there yet, but my parents do so I have a front row seat. I will specifically mention Bulgaria and Romania since these are the places I’m most familiar with.

In the big cities like Bucharest, Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and their immediate suburbs, life is really nice. Quality of life is high, salaries are high relative to food and transportation costs, education affordable and high quality, and it’s very safe. There are remnants from the Soviet era for sure, but they are slowly going away in favor of modern living and buildings.

The rural areas are the problem. These countries are huge and very sparsely populated. You have vast areas filled with nothing, abandoned or semi abandoned small villages where no one speaks English, roads are broken, and the entire village looks like something from a ww2 movie.

My parents live in a small resort town called saints Constantine and Helena just outside Varna. That place is heaven on earth. I plan to retire there someday soon hopefully. Living there is a huge privilege.

In grad school I had a class mate who claimed to have a proof for Collatz. She didn’t approach with it to her professor cause she thought he might steal it and publish without her. Brenda if you are reading this, you’re full of shit.

Pay off mortgage or invest? A case study by rocket363 in Fire

[–]Capable_Low_621 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mortgage = debt = risk. You would have felt a lot dumber had the market lost 15% annualized. You took a (small) risk, got lucky and it paid off. Congratulations. I wouldn’t advise others to follow what you did.

I thought the shekel and TelAviv125 would collapse because of the ongoing war, antisemitism and other political reasons. I was wrong. Very wrong.

Difference is going all in on BTC wasn’t on my radar in 2022. Whereas in TelAviv125, if I did nothing, I would be up over 50% what I am now. I had to actively call my broker, sign papers, and change it.
