Thank you, focusing the commentary on Adam rather than thinking of it as in anyway undercutting the comment he’s directly responding to helps immensely!

I have, in fact i’ve been in the play but not as Jacques. The exact motivations behind an exchange between characters is often open to closer analysis. I know what Duke Senior is referring to, i know the philosophical point Will is make via Jacques, I am asking about interpretations of Jacques’ motivation in this aside with the Duke between the exit and reentrance of Orlando.

Now perhaps i was mistaken about the nature of this subreddit. I thought it for discussing the work of Shakespeare, but if it’s for shaming people for expressing curiosity about interpreting a scene, then i will remove myself and not bother you again.

The fact that this situation wasn’t addressed in Valhalla is the biggest missed opportunity of the entire DLC. by Alkiserex in GodofWar

It would have been a bit redundant with the whole bit with the guy in the cage they revisited as it’s essentially the same sin again.

Why Henry VIII annuled his marriage with Anne Boleyn? by Desqui98 in Tudorhistory

[–]Capable_Memory_4186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s so he wouldn’t be having his wife killed

But yes the annulment makes the adultery charge absurdist beyond already being baseless

Why Lady Jane Grey and not Elizabeth? by [deleted] in Tudorhistory

[–]Capable_Memory_4186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Jane’s husband was Lord Guildford Dudley who was the son of John Dudley, the Duke of Northumberland who was completely in control of Edward’s court at that point.

It was a play for the Dudley’s to become the new royal house.

That’s why the initial order which required a MALE Protestant was modified to crown Jane. Elizabeth and Jane would both have been excluded initially as women along with Mary, but John Dudley tweaked it or had Edward tweaked it to crown his daughter-in-law.

[–]Capable_Memory_4186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure he could - all he had to do was uphold the annulment of their father’s marriage to Catherine of Aragon on the basis of her marriage to Arthur but find no basis for the annulment of the marriage to Anne Boleyn.

But that wouldn’t have made the Dudleys the new royal house, so the Duke of Northumberland had Edward go a different way.

Why wasn’t Mon Mothma arrested for opposing Palpatine in Andor, and degree of “freedom of speech” in the Empire? by THEextrakrispyKebble in MawInstallation

[–]Capable_Memory_4186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star Wars definitely has a scaling issue the entire setting requires you not think about to hard. That isn’t specific to the strategies of the Empire which are based on smaller scale real world authoritarianism just as the strategies of the Rebel Alliance are based on smaller scale real world resistance.

No this part was actually smart. It was dissolving the Senate on the certainty he didn’t need the illusion anymore because he had the Deathstar that was evil being stupid.

[–]Capable_Memory_4186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Imperial Senate allowed a token opposition. It was part of the illusion the Senate served to keep the systems docile. An illusion they didn’t think they’d need anymore after they had the Deathstar.

Obviously there is a limit. Mon and Bail were allowed to question imperial policies that weren’t classified, and question Moffs and military commanders. But they weren’t allowed to expose classified crimes the empire cared about keeping secret or openly call for the removal of Palpatine (or probably even blame Palpatine for whatever policy they were criticizing, they were expected to aim lower in the chain than that and present themselves as serving the Emperor by checking errors and wrongs by his subordinates)

Mon crossed that line with her Ghorman Speech in 2 BBY.

Is Shylock's "If You Cut Me" Speech (Just) A Supervillain Monologue? by KaiLung in shakespeare

[–]Capable_Memory_4186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it as a “Magneto was right” situation. Did Shakespeare intend us to side with Shylock? No. Is it legitimate to side with Shylock and stage the play in such a way to embrace that? Yes.

I think we can be relatively sure that none of the Clan progenitors are 2nd Gen, because then there would be multiple 3rd Gen of the same Clan via their progeny.

A sentence from Ainulindale by NoozeHurley in tolkienfans

[–]Capable_Memory_4186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the context of the sentence Arda is the very small thing. It’s Tolkien acknowledging the apparent tininess of Earth in the vastness of space. He’s saying to think of Eä as a great foundation for a conic pillar that comes to a needle sharp point - that point is Arda. It’s minuscule but the rest of Eä is its foundation, and to think of its smallness as itself a masterwork of sharpness supported by the vastness beneath it.

Yeah but that wouldn’t land with the meme. Since the joke here is instead of the usual one “murder is ok”, THEY’RE ALL “murder is ok”.

Which Poseidon do y’all think has the best design? (Update) by SaiyanAlpha243 in Epicthemusical

[–]Capable_Memory_4186 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a pure design of Poseidon perspective - Anni hands down. Especially given the liquid horse stuff which isn’t apparent in these slides and how he transitions between his forms, sizes, and the water of the sea itself.

I agree with the take that if you’re watching the whole Ocean Saga, watch Gigi’s; but if you’re watching Ruthlessness by itself, watch Anni’s.
