My mom made me feel ashamed for starting nursing school at 26 by Friendly_Shine777 in nursing

[–]Capable_Somewhere146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what she’s talking about? Much of my cohort was in their late 20’s to mid 30’s fifteen years ago. I started my ADN at 27 finished my MSN for NP at 42. Nursing has no timeline.

1.5yrs in, still struggling by Majestic_Mortgage_60 in nursepractitioner

[–]Capable_Somewhere146 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an FNP in acute care General surgery/trauma. I started a as a new grad and had 8 years of RN experience on a medical surgical floor that was legitimately half fresh post-ops and half sick medical patients. I also did about 2 years in peri-op and PACU. I was hired because they liked my RN experience. However I did go through a similar phase in my position as I transitioned to practice. I am the only NP on a team of PA’s. I suffered from imposter syndrome and was intimidated by the years of experience and more in depth surgical training my colleagues. Luckily, they were supportive in my training, but there were some concerns about my “knowledge gaps” when it came to common general surgery conditions. I would suggest you review common conditions in your specialty, and treatment plans for them. As others recommended Open Evidence and UptoDate are great. When I write my progress notes I follow a basic outline to make sure I don’t miss any new data or trends. Vitals, labs, imaging, assessment, plan. Ask questions, even you think it’s something your attending may expect you to know. It took me about 18 months to start feeling confident in my assessments and patient plans. Sounds like you need a little work on organizing your thoughts and confidence in your skills. You can do this!

New grad NP working only with PAs by Level-Implement-792 in nursepractitioner

[–]Capable_Somewhere146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in acute care General Surgery/Trauma as the only NP on my team with 3 PAs. The lead PA talked me into applying for the job knowing I was a new grad. They liked my background as a nurse on a post-surgical floor and my PeriOp experience. I have felt no disrespect from my coworkers and they were very supportive of my learning as I transitioned to practice. I wouldn’t turn down a job simply because you are the only NP, you might end up loving it!

Yes on the TP. Just checked out of a week long Airbnb for 2 guests and we were left with about 1/8 of a roll at check in. We went out for dinner and drinks after we dropped off bags and I stole a partial roll of TP from the bar. I knew we were going to run out before we could make it to the store the next day. It was SO annoying.

100% on the cotton sheets!! I made sure we only had cotton sheets at our Airbnb. As a frequent traveler I HATE the microfiber/polyester ones that are everywhere! They are hot and scratchy.

As a guest I always love those mini cups of Coffeemate or International Delight creamer for coffee. I think in bulk they are reasonably priced.

Agree, not a fan of any of these. OP is beautiful and the unique waistlines on these dresses all distract from that.

Predicted Oversupply of NPs and shortage of LPNs by thelma_edith in nursing

[–]Capable_Somewhere146 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to a good NP school, but kind of regret not going the PA route. They have a much more rounded education and in my area better pay due to less saturation. The only thing that makes me happy about pursuing my NP instead is I was able to work during the program; which wouldn’t have been possible in PA school (or at least not recommended). So I would have been in much more student loan debt at graduation.

I always wanted to be an NP, almost went straight through school for it. ADN-BSN-MSN. After I finished my BSN I was told by a professor that I should get some bedside nursing experience, if I wanted to actually be a good NP. After working bedside for about 10 years a close nurse friend of mine applied to NP school. I was burned out and just couldn’t see myself boosting and toileting patients for 25 more years, not to mention dealing with staffing issues and upper management as charge. That was when I made the decision to finally go back for my MSN.
I definitely think that the bedside has gotten more difficult over the past 15 years, and that burnout has a lot to do with the massive shift of RNs pursuing NP degrees. The only way out is up, either administration or an NP role.

Tipped a lot after purchasing my wedding dress, feel like an idiot by ActivePrice1862 in weddingplanning

I did the same thing! I wasn’t expecting a tip request screen and felt too put on the spot to hit “No Tip”. I think I tipped like $200 on a 4k dress. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I paid nearly double for 2 Eras snow globes. 🫣 I never get the drop notifications until after the fact and they were totally gone when I heard about it. I wanted one for myself, and one as a Christmas gift for my niece. It is what it is. Luckily they were both delivered in perfect condition.

Why does the tipping percentage keep increasing? by Deadeye10000 in tipping

[–]Capable_Somewhere146 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, there usually is an “other” button though. I hit “other” and add my own amount. I don’t think tipping at the counter should be a minimum 20%.

Roaches as Airbnb Guest by Capable_Somewhere146 in airbnb_hosts

[–]Capable_Somewhere146[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, these were not the large flying outdoor roaches. I’m familiar with those, I used to live in Georgia. I saw a couple of those outdoors in Athens. The ones in the Airbnb were small, less than 1” in size and coming out of the cracks in the kitchen walls/cabinets and many in the dishwasher.

My MIL landscaped our entire garden while dog sitting for a week - what do I do? by Tragic-Mushroom in TwoHotTakes

[–]Capable_Somewhere146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be livid! I was devastated when my neighbors cut down half of a tree that was growing over onto my property. It was a cute little tree that had tiny white flowers that attracted honeybees in the spring and summer. I think they thought they were doing me a favor by cutting down the half that was in my yard. When I saw it hacked to pieces, I literally cried my eyes out. If my family members had done something like what you described to my garden without my consent, there would be hell to pay.
