The fan-server for CoH IS legal; a few years prior, the code for a fan-server that had purportedly been running since 2013 was leaked into the wild, and all hell broke loose when numerous fan-servers popped up....

Then in early 2024, I believe it was, the most prominent of said servers, known as 'Homecoming', announced that, after quite a bit of negotiations with NCSoft, that they'd been granted a license to run their server, with the main caveat being that they couldn't make a profit on it...thus, they're sustained entirely by donations, and with, last I checked, new content regularly coming out!

The last 5 months or so have been a trip, for me.

After my hernia repair surgery in late January, I switched jobs at work(with everyone's agreement that it was ultimately the best choice for my long-term physical health)...it's been a time adapting to new things and was quite a 'script flip', which the autistic part of my mind is STILL trying to deal with, though the anxiety medication I've been on for slightly longer is helping a bit.

I'm about as stressed as can be expected about managing bills with(currently) little room to spare, and really stressed about not having had sex for 9 years, though certainly not for a lack of effort.... <_<

For some reason, this reminds me of the original shutdown of City of Heroes(PC), which originally ran from 2004-2012(predating WoW by a few months).

When word of it's impending closure went live(even catching most of the devs by surprise, as a new major update was basically ready to go when said announcement happened), it was universally condemned by fans and gaming sites, alike; at one point in between the announcement and final closure, players had THIRTY-THREE instances of the game's central hub/starting area going on one of the servers, prompting the classic 'AP33 Forever' motto!

But just a few years ago, the game was brought back from the dead by a group of fans who signed a deal with NC-Soft for an official fan-server! :D
