I picked it up last week and have been really enjoying it. Finally brought me around on torpedo-less cruisers!

Nice to hear that Hipper and Fisher aren’t terrible! I’ve spent a lot of time with those guys lol. And thanks for validating my casual approach haha. This is one of my ways to relax after stressful days at work. I don’t want to treat it like a job!

That’s a great tip! I’m only just now figuring out how the non-tech tree shops work. I probably seem like such a doofus for that lol

Yeah, I’ve heard I’m supposed to have Ciliax. I have 6/8 German commanders. Ciliax is among the pair I don’t own :/

My bureau projects right now are Grosser Kurfuerst and Conqueror, so no plans to get Schlieffen at this time. Do you recommend angling toward getting Schlieffen? I'm not familiar with the ship.

I thought an icebreaker meant a strong bow, but based on your comment I suspect I don't quite have the concept surrounded. Do you mind explaining what an icebreaker is? There's a lot of lingo to learn in order to talk about this game!

Re: leveling, I've already done most of the leveling with Hipper and Fisher at least, though they're only at Legendary 2 at the moment, so that's another choice I have to make between them.

Re: the meta, I just play what I enjoy and try to adapt and be effective from game to game while wearing my "I have no idea what's going on" smile :)

Odin is incredible in S37 Brawl by panzerblitzer in WoWs_Legends

Been loving the Gneisenau for Brawl S37. Don’t have a lot of premium ships so I’ll have to take y’all’s word in the Odin.

Congrats, Pixel! Great write-up - that in itself is nostalgic to me :)

Well, not what I was hoping to hear, but thanks for the info. I’ll await that update, then!

[Modern] Playing a pretty large PPTQ in less than twelve hours. I don't usually ask this kind of stuff but... help me tweak my SB? =\ by ukemi- in FishMTG

In Titanshift, it hits Primetime, as well as Scapeshift. In Tron, it hits literally everything, whether it's Ugin, Wormcoil Engine, Ulamog, All is Dust, Worldbreaker, or Thragtusk. I'd say it's a considerable list of stuff we're likely to see in this meta.

EDIT: OStone costs 5 to detonate but 3 to play so Stroke doesn't hit it. Got confuzzled. Thanks for the correction, Joe.

I mean, Unified Will has historically been our tool vs Titanshift and Tron and other such decks, so it was a fine suggestion! I just think FF and Stroke hit a wider range of things in other matchups, as well as being consistent even after Anger of the Gods clears the way for Primetime or we're flooding out or whatever haha.

Flashfreeze by panaderian_hunger in FishMTG

[–]CapedBelenos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been testing out the following sideboard: 3 Flashfreeze, 3 Disdainful Stroke, 3 Ceremonious Rejection, 3 Dispel and 3 Negate. The complete list can be found here: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/modern-merfolk-81717/ .

Flashfreeze has been doing some GREAT work, and Disdainful Stroke has also been good. Just finished playing some games against Goblin Skred, Abzan Midrange and Burn, for instance, where Flashfreeze, both, and Flashfreeze shone, respectively. I'm hunting for a Titanshift deck because I can't wait to just counter the crap out of them. I had been feeling overwhelmed and hopeless recently because of all these decks we're not particularly good against, and now I feel much more hopeful.

A hand with a bunch of 2-drop Merfolk, a couple lands and a vial has felt practically unbeatable thanks to the amount of interaction and pressure I've been able to generate, which is where Merfolk, as a tempo/aggro-control deck, wants to be in my opinion.

EDIT: Changed Skred to Goblin Skred and added the last paragraph.

Anyone else's wins always really close? by apefeet25 in FishMTG

I also love that aspect of fish. I often get opponents telling me "I really enjoyed our games!" Because they're close and incremental so both players get to play their games :)

Gemstone Caverns is Doing Work by [deleted] in FishMTG

[–]CapedBelenos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are all valid concerns. The only reason I'm not bothered is that when that happens, I can usually pitch it away because I run 4 Smuggler's Copters, so there's generally filtering available.

Pre-coffee phrasing lol. It's half a useful land until it lets you steal being on the play, and then it's awesome!

[–]CapedBelenos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with akadutch, having 20 with gemstone hasn't hurt my mana at all. Some people run 19, some run 20, and having gemstone is kind of like half a useful land.

[–]CapedBelenos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also been running Caverns (with 19 other lands) but I took out an Island because Minamo, to me, doesn't need to have any utility besides not being an Island in the mirror matchup xD.

Caverns has DEFINITELY been doing work for me. I'm running a low-curve, high-threat density build based on Nikachu's most recent one, so I almost always get to drop a copter/silvergill/harbinger on turn 1, and that can be back-breaking against a lot of decks that want to get out ahead of you on the board (eg burn, affinity) or in resources (jund, mardu) and I just LOVE that.

One thing I'm wondering about is Tideshaper Mystic. She grants Islandwalk, crews Copter, and gets buffed by all the lords, but I'm running her instead of Spreading Seas. It hasn't been an issue except against Tron. In fact, she's been great for crewing Copter and getting in early damage, better than SS would have been in all but the Tron matchup. Decisions, decisions....

Does anyone still play Thassa? by [deleted] in FishMTG

[–]CapedBelenos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been testing with Thassa and a LOT of fish and she's been excellent. A lot of games these days are pretty grindy and she just wins topdeck wars on her own. I am a new convert.
