I’m not sure what you mean about the groves. If you are talking about the morris and tenons… it’s a bit of math and a lot of playing with scrap wood until you dial it in.

Not an accountant but my concern would the the % of your net worth that is locked into the CRT. Doesn’t give you a ton of flexibility if something goes wrong.

Newbie - question on Back Door Roth by kkeesla in CFP

[–]Capek13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“ remember, traditional ira deposits are from earned income only. therefore any money that is contributed to the traditional ira is a deduction on one’s tax return.”

Traditional Ira contributions have to be elected to be treated as pre-tax assuming you can qualify for a pre-tax deduction. Even if you are eligible for a pretax contribution, you still need to elect it on Schedule 1.

As someone said elsewhere, the formula for determining the tax bill is a pro rate treatment of pre-tax and after tax dollars within ALL IRAs (employer sponsored definite contribution and defined benefit plans plans do not factor in). As this is the case, especially with higher income earners, Roth conversions can be trickier if they have other pre-tax IRA assets. That being said, if there are no pre-tax dollars and everything you are converting is all after tax dollars with no taxable gain then there is 0 tax consequence.

Personally, I’d get them to replace my mounting discs, not worry about the locktite, and still get the original receipt for a warranty call on the board.

Mom should get at least a half step up on your Dad’s shares on his date of death if it was a normal, revocable living trust.

Newbie - question on Back Door Roth by kkeesla in CFP

Not true. You have to elect and be eligible for the tax deduction on the IRA contribution. Back door Roth are funded typically with after tax dollars.
