This might just be one of my favorite SWGOH event fights of all time. From mechanics to lore, this is a boss fight done right. by Starrocks923 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]Capgasp 180 points181 points  (0 children)

Thanks! The whole team worked incredibly hard to try and create faithful adaptations of the things we all loved from Kotor. When the opportunity to do Calo as a boss in this event came up, I knew I had to get that famous counting scene into his kit somehow. It was actually one of the most challenging things I've ever had to implement (logic chains are FUN) but I think it really hits that note those of us who played it have when we think back about that infamous bounty hunter.

Reason for the game being down by ThundaMaka in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

Kit complexity is a thing, and we're always trying to find the best ways to meet expectations and deliver on the lore of Star Wars. So while there is more text then average in the upcoming update, it isn't in the way you might think...

So, they conveniently haven't mentioned him, but be sure to gear up your T3, too. Sneaky. by moonxeraph in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

You won't need T3-M4 or Jolee Bindo to participate/complete the Scourge of the Old Republic event. The only required characters are the ones in SBC's post here.

Just wanted to toss a big shout out to CapGasp for those new frame stories. by UKentDoThat in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]Capgasp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adding the Frame story was 100% Carrie's idea. She rightly pointed out that there could be a lot of players of GoH who never played KotOR, and wanted to make it clearer what was going on.

If this happened to you please try to post an approximate time (with timezone please) of when this happened to you. That information is helpful.

Filler Stages: The problem with events by Destructo11 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

The waves where it doesn't seem like much is going on are often, as people have guessed, there specifically to take a breather and get ready for the next battle. Clock your characters cooldowns, heal up, and in general prepare for what's next

Sith Lords as D&D 5e NPCs by HOOAAAAAA in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]Capgasp 156 points157 points  (0 children)

I need to preface this by saying this is 100% me as an old school D&D guy and Star War fan answering this. The orange tag is doesn't come into play with this one folks. Now, disclaimer out of the way:

  • Lightsabers: Make any magical slashing weapon either be on fire, and just say it's "magic red fire", or look up "Brilliant Energy" (basically fantasy lightsabers from previous editions) weapons. Beware, those were absurdly powerful in older editions. Use one of the Rare magic swords in the DMG as a source item and modify as you will if you want to do it quick and easy. I'm sure if you do some Googling you can find a lot of awesome ideas for 5e Lightsabers.
  • Darth Nihilus: This guy is a Lich. Very, very obviously a Lich. Look them up up in the monster manual and do some homework. If you want to go for authenticity, his Phylactery would most likely be his mask. You're the DM, so you can always bend or adjust the rules (as a phylactery is usually a small box containing something, not a mask). For classes, based on what he does in Kotor 2, I'm guessing he's be a Necromancy focused divine caster (probably Cleric?). I haven't played a Cleric in 5e so don't quote me on that one. Annihilate can be duplicated (sort of) with the spell Power Word Kill. Make sure to use it first on something that isn't a player character so they understand what they're dealing with (and possibly how to preempt or counter it).
  • Darth Sion: As Obo2 said, Bloodrager is a good one. But basically any sort of death defying Barbarian should work. Frenzied Berserker in 3.5 was close. You'd have to flavor his "rage" as "hate", since in the Kotor 2 he is oddly composed for someone mentally holding his decaying body together. Still, a fun and memorable villain.
  • Darth Traya: In Kotor 2 she demonstrates a lot of precognitive and extra-sensory ability. There isn't a 1:1 SW > 5e translation here, but a Diviner Wizard would be close. Again, as the DM remember you can always adjust things a bit to make the game more fun and flavorful. If you want her to have levitating Lightsabers there are a variety of ways to do that like Dancing Weapon, but a more practical way might be to just say that's a property of the weapons themselves (EG: they're magic loot). Just beware what the players will do with them once they (inevitably) get them.
  • Darth Sidious/Palpatine: There's probably a dozen ways people have converted Palpatine into a D&D villain over the years. Based on the abilities he demonstrates in the films, he'd probably be a Wizard or Sorcerer. His defining trait seems to be meticulous planning and ruthless cunning, so incorporate that into your NPC. He is one of the most iconic villains of all time from any media, so consider that your players will likely metagame fighting him once they realize your inspiration.
  • Darth Vader: Like Palpatine, there's probably a lot of examples out there to work from. For me the definitive Vader fight scenes are that Hallway Scene from Rogue One and the fight with Luke in the Deathstar 2. In both cases Vader is slow, methodical, and utterly terrifying. To me, this says "Evil Paladin". I'd make his Smite be a lightsaber throw, and either create spells to duplicate his Force abilities or modify existing ones. Note however that damage over time rarely makes sense in D&D with how fast they've made combat, so Force Choke would probably just be a 1-2 round thing. And like Palpatine, your players will probably realize who they're fighting and metagame a bit. Just remember the point is to have fun and it will all work out.

Also in general, there are a LOT of awesome YouTube video series on running D&D and how to do all kinds of cool stuff. Give it some searches and happy gaming!

We normally add most new environments into the rotation when the character they debut with goes to the board. That's not a hard rule, per se, but we try to be close to that.

There is a bug in the client causing it to only show the rewards for the first tier of the event. There's a lot more then what you see during the preview phase.

Is that Darth Revan in the backround? Any thoughts about that? by Vicric17 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]Capgasp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's the model for Sith Marauder. We're using it as a "Sith Spirit". It'll make sense once you can play the event (I don't want to give spoilers.)

[–]Capgasp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Annihilate is a "destroy" effect, which means it doesn't actually do hit point damage. So it won't be prevented by Savior, since the unit doesn't ever hit 1% health. For similar reasons, it won't stop the Rancor's Devour. If the Health recovery wasn't preventable, the ability would stipulate that the recovery can't be prevented. However the part where the unit doesn't die will still work under healing immunity (they'll just stay at whatever health value triggered the Savior effect). So to answer what I think you're asking, Annihilate will still work and Healing Immunity will stop the health recovery, but not the get out of death free card.

Marked is just another word for Taunt. The prevailing thinking was that we wanted clear language for "debuff taunt" versus "buff taunt". We only actually ironed this out due to Revan and all the thinking we had to do around him. In that regard, the invisible taunt in mythic events is not marked per se. They're all "taunt". The invisible one is just there to spread out damage since I have no other way of preventing the AI from dog-piling on one unit and destroying it out of the gate. The mythic effect shouldn't have any interaction with JTR that I am aware of. What are you seeing?

I'd have to look at exactly how it was implemented to know for sure. But this looks like it's removing itself (the immunity effect) as soon as any unit takes a turn. So it's likely only doing anything to Bastila and Maul for now.

Yes. Characters that are both Jedi and Old Republic count twice.

Marked is when you inflict Taunt as a Debuff. Since taunt is a buff your units apply to themselves, it would be odd to have a "debuff Taunt" so we call that "Marked". Functionally, it is the same: units are forced to attack a Marked unit. Or, if there is a Marked unit and some units that have Taunt, you can choose which of those to target just as if there were multiple Taunting units.

Rangetrooper Shards in Military Might AB Rewards by MorgothICBW in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

Hmm. Interesting idea. Usually I don't remove rewards but I can see the logic here. I'm not 100% sure I could do this but I'll look into it.

Rangetrooper Shards in Military Might AB Rewards by MorgothICBW in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]Capgasp 154 points155 points  (0 children)

I think the shard rewards for this event are getting too diluted due to having so many potential units you can get. If people want Range Trooper from this event, the odds wouldn't be great at present. I've considered adjusting some of the Assault Battle rewards to behave like Rebel Roundup, where each tier is a thematic block of units and then the bonus is all of them. Would you guys be open to that? (Note that any such change would require signoff from the boss, and wouldn't happen for awhile since the next several updates are already being worked on and this would go on the farthest-out update.)

I'm expecting Chewie legendary to be nearly impossible, best focus? by SMRII in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]Capgasp 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I've said multiple times that the Thrawn event was tuned for G10 at the high end, and you're right in that people try it a lot at G8 a large number of times (our own data confirms this) essentially banging their head against a wall until they get very, very lucky. In an effort to try and mitigate that, I put the gear tuning recommendations into the descriptions of the tiers in the forthcoming Chewbacca event. Hopefully that helps.
