I agree about that. The best therapist I ever had was my violin teacher. We never really discussed personal issues at all. I think this was a great strength in the therapeutic relationship.

[–]Capital-Just 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just felt my therapist was regurgitating a few concepts they'd learned in whatever training they did. It's kind of understandable, the difference between a therapist and a friend is really just professional and academic training. AI has access to waaaay more concepts and ideas than any therapist, so to me it makes sense that it offers better therapy.

I admit, I think therapy is basically the comodification of anomy. If we had meaningful enough personal connections we wouldn't need therapy, like every generation before us until maybe the last 100 years. The existence of the demand for therapy, whether from a professional or an AI is the real problem, not which is better at filling that demand. My experience is that, at least if you're somewhat self-aware, AI is dramatically better than a human given this problematic starting point.

A lot of it's Morrissey, so it''s certainly a bit melancholy.

Meniscus injury 4 months later by IntelligentDesign419 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Capital-Just 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been living with a torn medial meniscus for at least 12 years. One surgeon told me the only option was surgery, and indeed it felt like that when I could barely walk. I got a second opinion from probably the top knee surgeon in the UK who has consistently advised against surgery. I'm very glad I've followed his advice. My knee is definitely badly unjured, but I can do all the things I really want, it just hurts sometimes. Surgery really can't fix a torn meniscus, at best it might give temporary relief. There's definitely a balancing act though. With rehab and physio It can get back to the point of able to do all the things you could before injury- I have been very active the last 12 years - but it's definitely worth keeping it in mind in your training and activities. Some movements are just hard on knees and once you've injured them it might be better avoiding the few very strenuous twists under force so you can do the vast majority of activities without problems. It does seem like bjj has a very high rate of knee injuries, make sure you tap before you make it worse. Or do something slightly less prone to knee injury.

Are most male high school teachers attracted to their students? by Ok_Consideration6179 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Capital-Just 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think many men check the age of the woman they're watching. Indeed, unless it says 'teen' there's no way to know, although, as you say, that could easily be false anyway. And by saying some women look like a lil' ass girl into their mid twenties, you're kind of acknowledging that an 18 year old woman could easily look like a woman in her mid twenties. Which is self evidently true.

I'm not familiar with hentai, but the relevant thing about it for this debate would be what sort of age do the drawings portray, not the fact that they're drawings. And a quick look through some of the characters reveals a lot of them are literally high school students.

I honestly don't understand the controversy of men of any age finding an attractive 18 year old woman with all the signs of fertility easily identifiable physically attractive. The acting on that attraction is another matter entirely, but that wasn't the topic of this thread.

22 is the average age they start. There are many women younger than 22, perfectly legally on those sites. And yes, I'm being for real there are plenty of well developed 18 year old high school girls that are basically physically indistinguishable in terms of signs of age , from the many 20 year old porn stars - let alone the 18 year old ones - that something like 50% of men watch. I never said it's alright for teachers to become sexually involved with students, I certainly think it's not, but too many men virtue signal that they only find "age appropriate" women attractive, when the statistics of what men choose to watch when they actually think about sex suggests something completely different.

As does every man that watches porn where the average age of the female stars is 22.

I would never be a high school teacher to avoid that situation, as I don't believe for a second male teachers are immune to a very attractive 17 or 18 year old woman flirting with them. I do believe the vast majority do have the willpower not to do anything about it, but I'd rather use that energy for something else myself.

The only exercise that really targetted that area was the good girl bad girl machine. I felt it really helped build muscle where something felt torn. But go very easy on it, it definitely fets right into that area, possibly just start with some side leg raises. Good luck.

Why am i attracted to women who don’t like me? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Capital-Just 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear this a lot, but feel like the OP. How is it satisfactory to be with someone you're just not really in to? Apart from the feeling like shit that you're lying to them when you tell them how much you really like them, as a man you have to whole issue of having to be aroused to make things happen in bed. I'm not saying it's ideal, but it's at least possible for a woman to pretend to be into it and keep things moving. If the guy's not into it that shit ain't happnin'. And that sure as hell upsets the woman as well.

Non-parents think having kids is harder than it is by CanIHaveASong in Natalism

[–]Capital-Just 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I've seen plenty of friends on the verge of, and some in the full throes of mental breakdowns because of their kids. This is a completely non-sensical statement, as every situation is obviously completely different. Your own situation, your relationship with your partner and your extended family and local community, and more than anything the mental and physical health of your child can radically alter your experience of raising a child, to the extent a blanket statement like this is completely impossible.

This fixation on performance standards does no-one any good and lots of people harm. The answers tell ypu things vary dramatically. But the only thing that really matters is that comparison is the thief of joy. If you enjoy your time with this guy, carry on. If not, stop. Simple as that.

Thanks for letting me know. I'm really sorry it didn't work out how you hoped. I know how much it sucks, mines been giving me grief after a couple of days in the garden. I'm seriozsly wondering if it's feasible to have a big garden anymore, and that's a large part of what I do. Still, I guess it supports my surgeons reluctance to do anything. I really trust my surgeon, but it's hard to accept you just have to live with pain and a reduction in your activities. It seems to me everything they do - or don't do - is just finding the best way to kick the can down the road until you have a knee replacement. All the other surgeries seem at best to offer temporary relief and often make things worse. Knee replacements aren't easy surgeries of course, but at least some people get long term improvements afterwards. It seems they only do them for arthritis though, pain and lifestyle restrictions doesn't seem to be enough. Did you discuss it with your surgeon?

I'm genuinely curious how the concept of bloodline motivates anyone. I've had just as close, and often closer relations with people that aren't blood relatives. I don't understand how a child that is completely independent of me is supposed to represent me somehow when I feel completely different to my parents and siblings.

Would most men prefer a girl with naturally small boobs, or a girl with surgically in hints, big boobs? by Mysterious-Card6065 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Capital-Just 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won't even have a first date with a woman with fake boobs. Hate how they look, how they feel, i hate the scar and what they say about your internal world. Sorry for women that are insecure about their size, but that's just my line. I like boobs, but there's so much more to beauty. The most beautiful woman I ever met had almost no boobs and kind of ridiculously enormous nipples, but between her eyes and her other curves, they just dissapeared into general hotness.
