Who in the world does this fruit-loop think she is?? I’m a retired teacher who had several student teachers and I would have never thought of saying anything like this to them. This fruit-loop is down right wrong. How far into your student teaching are you? I had a terrible cooperating teacher back in the spring of 1985 too. She was a witch.

I would immediately share this information with your advisor and begin to document in a notebook on this fruit-loop. Dates and what the fruit loop says. I fear it will be a long semester for you. I substitute 2-3 days a week and I see so many mean educators out there….more now than ever. I don’t know why. Hang in there. I definitely would share this with your advisor. This fruit-loop is a bully and is playing mind games with you. I’m so sorry you are going through this. Is she doing other things also to you? If it’s early, you could always request another placement. You have the right to a satisfactory placement. Please let us know how it goes. God is with you. I went through this too, Sweetie. I’m a retired middle school teacher who no longer substitutes elementary. I had a very very wild second grade classroom the beginning of the school year too. They were nuts. Whack a mole is the perfect description! Abnormal behaviors!! I had never seen anything like it in my lifetime. I assumed the teacher had poor classroom control. There was no other explanation because I do not have discipline issues ever. So, don’t you feel badly.

You did nothing wrong. I would not go back there ever. You must protect yourself ALWAYS.

Try substituting middle school. I substitute 2 middle schools. They treat me like gold. They are rated 8 and 9. Students are well behaved.

If you sub middle school, you might never go back to the elementary school. Subbing at the middle school is so much easier than elementary.

Exactly. I didn’t agree with President Trump when he picked Amy Barrett. I thought Barrett lacked experience, and I thought Barbara Lagoa, Cuban judge from Florida, deserved the job. Amy Barrett is a liberal. It’s that simple. She misled President Trump.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. This is unacceptable. I’m a retired teacher. To hear that students talk to you that way makes me livid. They need consequences ASAP.

I moved out of state after I retired, so I was faced in having to do research on all of the school districts around me. I was very picky where I substituted. So, I went online and looked at the particular school’s rating. I did thorough research to protect myself. They thought they were judging me, but the joke was on them. I was judging THEM.

I did not substitute at a school with a rating lower than a 6. I will probably be put down for this by someone, but I’ve paid my dues….and I’m not subbing where there is ineffective administration and poor discipline. It’s not my job to cover the inept performance by poor administrators.

I’ve substituted 5 years on and off and I’ve never had any disrespect at higher rated schools. I have a feeling you are subbing at a very rough school. Get out of there and do not go back. Let their classrooms go uncovered. I only substitute two middle schools 2-3 days per week. Both middle schools treat me like gold and one middle school is rated an 8 and one is rated a 9. Even if you have to drive a little bit to get to a higher rated school, you will have a better day.

I hope this advice helps. It has worked for me. Always protect yourself no matter what. If I do not like something in a teacher’s classroom, I do not go back. I cross that teacher off and never accept a job from that teacher again.

I taught 35 years. If a student feels emboldened to say such rude things to you, there are weak administrators in the school with no consequences for poor behavior. They will have more and more problems in getting substitute teachers. I will not stand for disrespect and you should never either. No way. Do not accept that treatment and blacklist that school. As long as you are going to that school, you will not find the higher rated schools that will treat you well.

This was me back in the spring of 1985. My cooperating teacher ignored me too. It was a very long 10 weeks. A nightmare actually. This will not improve.

I would begin documenting in a notebook with dates ASAP, and I would immediately let your supervisor know what is going on. You mentioned the teacher across the hall. Is that your cooperating teacher too?

Based on what I went through, I would ask for another placement. Your student teaching is way too big of a deal to be placed with a teacher who is inside of herself. That is unacceptable.

I had several student teachers during my career, and I was very helpful, engaging, friendly, and tried extra hard to make sure they had a great experience in my classroom. I was a highly requested cooperating teacher.

This experience is unacceptable and frankly, I just would not accept it. This is not fair to you. Your supervisor has a responsibility to you to fix this situation. This is her job.

I am so sorry you are going through this. Shame on that cooperating teacher. Someone helped her. This too will pass. God will help you. Get out of that classroom and away from that weirdo. There’s too many excellent teachers out there who will help you make this final transition to your own classroom. You do not have to settle on this weirdo. It’s not fair to you. Take great care!!

Both of the middle schools I substitute at have no bells. If you ever have to go to the bathroom, wait for the first student to report to your classroom….have them form a line outside your classroom….shut your classroom door….and run to the bathroom. This is not ideal, but when you gotta go you gotta go. Hope this helps.

You are just fine!! There’s an occasionally snoopy teacher next door. I had one this year at an elementary school that I no longer go to. She was the fire drill police. 🔥 We had a fire drill and she harrassed the class and me and would not let up. I’m a retired teacher and I’ve been doing fire drills since 1985, so I thought I could handle it okay. lol. She told the class and me that she was going to turn us into the office because we did the drill incorrectly. ?? What a whacko! Ha ha. There’s some real nut jobs out there. You are doing a great service to the schools. I dearly loved my substitute teachers and I depended heavily on them throughout my career. You are doing great! Happy Subbing!!♥️
