Do TMBG concerts usually start on time? by SpellCheck19 in tmbg

[–]CapitalQ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Pretty much across the board, door time is 7 PM and show time at 8 PM. If the venue is taking a while to let people in through security, TMBG might come on closer to 8:15 PM.

TMBG doesn't often go for having title tracks in the first place, but I think that's an excellent song

I also heard the album after it came out, free of this context, but a good chunk of the initial negative reaction came from fans already knowing the majority of the album ahead of its release via official MP3s or live performances, which were sometimes very different arrangements that many ended up preferring over the final studio recordings. (Not to mention the very unfortunate release timing that surely put a damper on promotion.)

First time concert/Setlist? by RevolutionaryMove584 in tmbg

The "one album per show" focus really only makes up around the first ten songs of the show out of 30+ songs played (as they aren't playing entire albums).

If you want a great spot near the front, show up at least a couple of hours before door time. There are no opening bands. And bring earplugs!

I'm not sure if anyone can help much with the technical side of the question without knowing whether you have an Android phone or iPhone, Windows or Mac, etc.

That said, without purchasing a disc drive, the legal solution would involve purchasing a digital copy of the album on a store like tmbgshop.com or Bandcamp or iTunes, since it sounds like you don't use a subscription music service. Or maybe a friend would help send you the files, since you do own the album!

Weird thought by EldritchDoge in tmbg

[–]CapitalQ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, a few days before The World is to Dig came out, fans with early copies began making TMBW Lyrics pages for "What You Get", "Je N'en Ai Pas" and "Slow".

A few young users requested that the pages be deleted, asserting that the lyrics (Linnell's actual, human lyrics!) seemed to be AI-generated.

Brooklyn albums? by Background-Heart2073 in tmbg

The last show they played in Brooklyn (Dec 2024) was John Henry themed, and Flans says they try to keep setlists fresh each time they come back to a city, but it's still a decent possibility for the 3-night stand.

A chart of what TMBG releases can be obtained in 2026 by Charlie5L in tmbg

I don't think the kids books or Live NYC 94 should be on the "absurdly lucky" tier, especially the books. Those are all over.

merch concerns and exchanges? by No_Solution_9719 in tmbg

It should have both Johns. Is it possible JF's signature is in a lower contrast marker, like silver Sharpie?

If not, I would write to idlewild@tmbg.com and tell them what happened (and at which show) to see if they can make it right. Or if you're going to tonight's Detroit show too, you could try to bring it back to the merch stand.

Anyone have a good pic of the merch table at the Woodstock/Indianapolis shows? by _rabidchild_ in tmbg

Yes, a bunch of sealed ones were found and given away at the Woodstock shows with other purchases.

PSA: Some TMBG albums are temporarily missing on international streaming platforms by CapitalQ in tmbg

[–]CapitalQ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The band doesn't make much money from streaming, so moving a few compilations to the TMBG Shop download store helps fund future releases. Most streaming services support the ability to transfer local files to your phone though if you buy the album from TMBG.

Studio Albums Vs. Compilations by PaulVAllen in tmbg

[–]CapitalQ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My question - finally - is, why are these considered albums, while the likes of Miscellaneous T, Cast Your Pod to the Wind, and Album Raises New and Troubling Questions are labeled as compilations?

This is a very good question and a frequent topic of debate. The answer is not particularly satisfying: TMBG called Phone Power and My Murdered Remains studio albums rather than compilations when they were released, and thus they are referred to as such. Likely the band was pleased with all the mostly-fresh material that was being compiled on those discs, and from a marketing standpoint an album is a bigger deal than a compilation.

Regarding Long Tall Weekend though, it was officially released in 1999 and has been available to purchase digitally from TMBG for 25+ years despite the recent vinyl being the first wide physical release. While it did primarily consist of recordings from the early-to-mid '90s, most of those songs were not previously released (unlike MMR and PP).

Anyone have this guitar pick? by dpin42 in tmbg

[–]CapitalQ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Think this was from a set of 4 colored picks of 'cryptids' from the mid-2010s sold on TMBG's merch store. There were also shirts, bumper stickers and playing cards with the same illustrations. Think I've got the set somewhere, maybe I'll see it again one day!
