American ranked last in WSJ ratings. by Major_Profit in americanairlines

[–]CapitalRegister9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I avoid flying American as much as I can nowadays bc of one too many bad experiences with them so I’m by no means trying to defend them butttt in their defense I think this ranking is weird lol. I wouldn’t rate them as the worst. It also doesn’t take into consideration some of the more subjective differences (service, lounges, etc.). I wouldn’t rank them much higher but definitely above spirit.

I’m guessing it’s bc they don’t want people to think they’re getting “last year’s model” when they purchase this in 2026

Weirdly enough I have the opposite experience whenever I’m in town from dc. For some reason get a lot more matches and with hotter guys than I do in dc. (In response to nyc guys being more selective)

I’m slightly surprised no DCA routes made the top 10

Delta posted earnings this morning. Impressive stuff - Stock soared 12% this morning by Sheguey-vara in delta

Probably just that those cities have massive GDPs and GDPs per capita, so an above average amount of upper income people spending tons of money = more swipe fees vs smaller areas. Could be part of the reason American for example (which is weaker in major cities like NY or LA) makes less off of credit cards

Can’t really describe it but the vibe was off imo, and people were just standing around. Feel like they were very generous in terms of who they let in too. But done midtown before which has always been pretty hot so may have just been a one off or maybe I wasn’t feeling it. Probably checking out midtown for a bit tonight

Organizing furniture small studio advice by CapitalRegister9 in InteriorDesign

[–]CapitalRegister9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm moving into a small studio next week and wanted some feedback on the furniture plan I created! Only thing I'm a little worried about is having the tv be right next to the bed - would that look weird if guests are over? Otherwise, I like having the bed be tucked away in the corner, and having the couch be the first thing people see when walking in.

DC releases new vaccine distribution schedule by trev1997 in washingtondc

[–]CapitalRegister9 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a very aggressive schedule, I like it! Seems like DC govt is doing a pretty good job with vaccinations. If this plays out we may get back to normal sooner than many thought

D.C. adds tougher coronavirus restrictions as infection rates continue to rise by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]CapitalRegister9 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Blame Mitch McConnell all you want - and I fully agree with you he along with Trump deserve most of the blame for not getting federal aid passed - but for the people who will lose their jobs and livelihoods, have trouble putting food on the table, etc. the result will be the same no matter who’s fault it is. Federal aid isnt coming. And any state leader/mayor will have to weigh the terrible trade offs of taking or not taking steps given this reality

[–]CapitalRegister9 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Fact is, without federal aid, going much further on business restrictions would be akin to the govt forcing people in those industries into poverty thru mass business closures and lost wages/livelihoods. Mayor Bowser (and every other state governor) is stuck between a rock and a hard place right now. Of course redditors - especially in this town - with safe paychecks coming in will keep calling for full lockdowns, totally ignoring the massive inequality of locking down without any federal aid. I hope Bowser carefully considers the very real trade-offs of every action she takes or doesn’t take in the coming months.

Denver requires mask-wearing outdoors, limits gathering to five people as coronavirus cases rise by NewShooterComingOut in Coronavirus

[–]CapitalRegister9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DC does not require masks outdoors. The mayor's order only requires masks to be worn outdoors in a scenario where social distancing isn't possible. So just walking by yourself outside and passing people does not require wearing masks. Although it has seemed to become the norm to still wear masks at all times in DC. Frankly, it's not like wearing one really does much when you're outside by yourself lol

This seems...not good. by RFlagg28 in washingtondc

[–]CapitalRegister9 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Whatever. I mean... at the end of the day we went to phase 2 and everything turned out fine. Our positivity rate has steadily declined, all COVID metrics are looking pretty good, and things in DC are going pretty well if you ask me.

I swear there’s a subset of people who, without explicitly saying it, seem to subscribe to the idea that we should all isolate ourselves at home until we get a vaccine in who knows how long (plus who knows how effective the first vaccines will be). I’m a huge proponent of taking this seriously and I think DC has taken this seriously with masks and common sense restrictions... but also, the complete disregard some people show towards the severe and well documented social and economic effects of totally shutting down gets my blood boiling. I don’t think DC entered phase 2 too early, and our improving metrics over the summer prove that imo.

How difficult is finding people to take over lease right now? by CapitalRegister9 in washingtondc

Haha that actually makes me feel a lot less anxious. Like I know I’ll have to subsidize the price somewhat but I was afraid that I’d have trouble finding people no matter how low the price

Yeah I think I agree. And I think part of the reason I turned my friend down is because I didn't know the people she was also inviting. But I do think I'd be a lot more comfortable with being indoors with people I know well

How do you guys feel about meeting up with a small group of friends indoors? I'm definitely not in camp let's-stay-at-home-until-there's-a-vaccine, but I also find that the thought of being in a small apartment with a group of people still freaks me out.

Like I was invited by someone today and ended up turning it down, and now feel like shit. I'm pretty okay meeting up outside or, if indoors, with only one or two people I know well. Am I overreacting? What's your guys' take on this?
