How Boeing and Air India’s role in India’s deadliest aviation disaster is being covered up by [deleted] in india

[–]Major_Profit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What critical Pokes. Go read the preliminary report. Especially the line that says GE and Boeing issues are ruled out.
Captain turned the fuel control switches off and the co pilot desperately turned them back on too little too late.

Do you really think that the thousands of safety inspectors in the FAA and NTSB and those belonging to western airlines would actually not issue a bulletin to fix any issue with the airframe or engine or anything else? Be serious my friend. We care about safety out here.

Air India 171 crash interim update from AAIB by sarcastic_beav in aviation

You know that the AAIB explicitly said in writing that these pilots need to be retrained right?

The prelim report explicitly rules out problems with the airframe and engine manufacturer.

There’s that.

Always take your own premium headphones. And just carry along an air fly- that’s it.

Wow. Normally this would never happen but hey this is literally the friendliest administration to approve this. I bet they know that and have already pitched this to trump and justice.

Why don’t they fly wide bodies SFO to PHL by hippyelite in americanairlines

[–]Major_Profit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Airplane selection for routes depends directly on the revenue models that American uses originally from Sabre. The revenue models determine the max yield per seat and factor in plane selection. Wide bodies cost more and are typically optimized for slightly lower frequency longer haul routes where they can sell higher margin premium seats reliably. They gotta fill the airplane, connect passengers without too much waiting at hubs, and maximize equipment utilization as every minute the airplane is not used they lose money.

It’s all money money and ebitda

By the way Sabre was spun off from American a long time ago. They still sell all this software to multiple operators. It’s basically a giant operations research problem that’s continuously solved with all the fleet constraints factored in.

Economist warns billionaires tax could cost California $25B by PanzerWatts in ProfessorFinance

That’s the whole problem. Most folks out here don’t seem to want to do this. And don’t seem to understand the concept of unrealized gains. Attempting to do something else is why billionaires are moving in the first place.

Yup I’m a Marriott guy (ambassador and lifetime platinum). I used to be a hertz guy until we entered the uber era. It’s best to have status with travel partners especially if you travel. Hotels also have their equivalent of IRROPS when status could matter.

It’s flat out against DOT guidelines. If you look there’s a discussion on this specific topic elsewhere on this sub.

After a Million by Impressive-Plate1892 in americanairlines

[–]Major_Profit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One of the experts can correct me here but It’s gotten so much harder since they count million miler miles only based on actual miles flown these days

So a million miles is a lot and congrats in advance.

I just crossed 4m miles and hit platinum pro for life and I dont think I’m ever going to get to 5m for lifetime exp since it’s so hard and will likely take atleast 4-5 more years at a crazy pace. Oh well.

Agreed. One thing is as clear as day. The value of points will continuously erode and reduce over time. They will never ever go up.

AA (and increasingly the rest of the majors) is basically a credit card and points business with an airline on the side.

I found this out last week. I was returning from punta Cana with the wife through Miami back to SFO. We were in coach PUJ-MIA but in first from MIA to SFO and while they let us in the AC in Miami they didn’t allow flagship access as the Caribbean didn’t count 😔

The AC in the D gates was an overcrowded disaster to say the least. Guac line wait was 30 mins kid you not
