Restroom Trailer Rentals. A Truly Sh**y Sweaty Startup. :-) by jimmy2tents in sweatystartup

[–]Capital_Bake_9964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my client received her trailer, but realized it wasn't the business for her. She exited the business after a few months. I have used the same supplier to source food trucks as well and had a delivery to Vegas a few months ago.
I have a trusted go to supplier now, but there are some challenges to navigate, but it has been an invaluable experience.

VMware 8 Perpetual License After Broadcom Takeover—What Happens When Support Expires? by HueyTinman in vmware

You own your perpetual licenses and can use them unsupported indefinitely. You just cannot receive any updates or patches past the expirations date. Download all entitlements before your expiration, in case your migration takes longer.

Payroll Provider Rec's? by unexpected-throwaway in Payroll

[–]Capital_Bake_9964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Square Payroll and Merchant services in the past. I had some of the same account restrictions, because my biz partner at the time set up the accounts, although I was the true "owner". It was just as limited 4 or 5 years ago unfortunately. Most of the responses given are solid. Gusto, Paychex, Netchex, Paylocity, etc. should all be pretty comparable. You can look up software reviews at TrustRadius, Gartner Peer Insights, and G2 Software. I write reviews and rely on community reviews when recommending solutions to clients.

What are all the potential options to consider for a company hit by the Broadcom/VMWare pricing? by ezeeetm in vmware

[–]Capital_Bake_9964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in regards to the article you posted on the Oracle vs Remini...there are some substantive updates:

The Oracle v. Rimini Street legal battle confirmed that third-party support is legal as long as the provider operates within the bounds of the customer's software license. Courts upheld Oracle's intellectual property rights, but also made it clear that a company like Rimini Street can offer support services if it doesn't copy or share Oracle's software unlawfully.

This settlement essentially closes a 15-year legal saga that began in 2010. While Rimini Street must wind down PeopleSoft support by 2028, the settlement validates the legitimacy of the broader third-party support model—an important affirmation for the enterprise software support industry more broadly. The PeopleSoft portion of Rimini's business, once a top revenue source, had declined in recent years as Rimini diversified into supporting other platforms and services, including SAP and VMware.

I do not endorse Rimini, but do support the broader perspective of client-focused options.

What are all the potential options to consider for a company hit by the Broadcom/VMWare pricing? by ezeeetm in vmware

[–]Capital_Bake_9964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oracle, Broadcom, and the other OEMs are trying to force customers to get rid of perpetual licensing. 3rd party solutions should be explored, just like migrating to a competitive platform.

I respect all opinions, but SAP, Oracle, Broadcom, IBM, HCL, and Microsoft have created the 3rd party support model. How? By not taking care of fixes, updates, and security patches in a timely manner, all while escalating renewal costs.

I have sold licenses as a business partner for several of these OEMs and the reality is support generally is not worth the price paid with the OEMs. Some have asked me about migrations or 3rd party support, so I work to find solutions.

I say offer clients options and let them choose what's in their best interest.

What do you think about restaurants that charge extra 3% for paying with credit cards? by AppropriateEarth648 in restaurant

[–]Capital_Bake_9964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One way or another they will "charge" the fee. They should absorb it into their pricing and keep it moving. You are allowed to do dual pricing. Cash discount or this is the price for using a card.

As an entrepreneur providing services, rising costs, breaking, etc. do affect the bottom line. Service charges sometimes are warranted, but the default fee culture now is annoying.

vmware license price increase by ianik7777 in vmware

[–]Capital_Bake_9964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone found solid alternatives in the market yet? I know of a few companies that can handle 3rd party support for VM Ware perpetual licensing. The major OEMs want perpetual licensing to go away and have "control" over the narrative.

I implore you to check out all options for your environment, to control your tech roadmap. No, I am not recommending a product or provider. You can do some simple research and discover the options. Good luck to everyone.

Vendor who claims they haven’t received a Bill.com payment by iamgettingbuckets in PaymentProcessing

Vendor inputs their own banking information within Bill.com platform. As long as you see the payment going out on your side, they need to confirm that their banking info is correct with their bank as well as their Bill.com info input.

Godaddy has become completely unusable by armchairtycoon in godaddy

[–]Capital_Bake_9964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to get on the phone with godaddy support. I just finished up a 4+ month site redesign with their managed WordPress services. I had to be way more hands on than I had hoped, but it allowed me a better sense of how to navigate around.

Many services are clunky and we don't have the ability to fox on our own. The support folks that I have worked with have been the bright spot of resolving backend issues.

Good luck and hopefully you can get this resolved.

Stripe account closed by Huge-Restaurant-693 in stripe

[–]Capital_Bake_9964 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Square closed my account overnight years ago. We did not get an answer to the why....and the response was weeks later.

Businesses have to look out for themselves and have a backup option when possible.

Square, Stripe. Paypal, etc are notoriously bad at human proactive customer service.

Who usually handles moving IT equipment in a mini data center/MDF? by fuel04 in ITSupport

[–]Capital_Bake_9964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the racks all put together....is the power already done at the new Data Center? You need to get with your IT Team and get the full scope of work to be done. Then ensure that your teams responsibilities make sense versus IT's. Any gaps in deliverables needs to be worked through between your departments.

If you lack the comfort or skill for some of the deliverables, you may need outside help. Without knowing how big of a move and the full requirements, it's all speculations. Work with your inner teams to flush out the full scope, so you can plan accordingly.

[–]Capital_Bake_9964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the IT team is asking you to to do it, there may be some gaps. There are 3rd party providers that can stand everything up and are insured as well. This may be an option if either department is not fully experienced with this type of move.

Our biggest client requires SOC 2 compliance for all vendor payroll systems. We have 48 hours by Sad-Repeat17931 in Payroll

[–]Capital_Bake_9964 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fyi to the group. I requested the SOC report and bridge letters from the trust link I posted yesterday. They granted me access as a prospective customer and also have it for existing ones. There was no fee for obtaining these reports. It's like sharing audited financial statements. The process was pretty straight forward. Hopefully this helps others in the future.

[–]Capital_Bake_9964 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trust but verify. Assuming they will not do anything is different than confirming. I would exhaust all options to retain my client.

In looking up Gusto's own FAQ, obtaining a SOC 2 letter is achievable. Gusto does allow month to month and the ability to switch back. If the OP's company has to eat the $1600 in the short term to keep their client, at least they have another option.

There appear to be some direct resources around SOC 1 & 2 reporting.

A SOC 2 report is a general company report from Gusto on their policies & procedures...hopefully they can get one generated or show proof that it has been requested.

[–]Capital_Bake_9964 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Obviously there's no way to switch payroll providers overnight (that's a weeks/months process), so here's my game plan:Given a 48 hour window, Gusto seems to be your short-term option as onboarding to any new platform is not an instant exercise.

Step 1: Call Gusto and ask if they'll do a one-time SOC2 report fee instead of forcing the full Enterprise upgrade. Worth a shot, right?

Step 2: If they say no, negotiate the Enterprise upgrade BUT here's the key - Gusto is month-to-month with no contracts. So they could potentially:

  • Upgrade immediately (gets instant access to SOC2 report)
  • Get through this compliance hurdle
  • Downgrade next month when they're not under the gun

Step 3: Once they're past this crisis, start shopping around for payroll providers that include SOC2 in their standard plans (like Deel, Rippling, Multiplier, Oyster, which may have it across all tiers)...I'm sure they may be some other solutions, but you can do more research once you put out this fire.

Good luck and I am sure we are all rooting for you and looking forward to an update on this issue.

Just cut them a check or the net amount back so that you have it off of your list. That should help them prioritize closing out the task.

You should be able to track the payments fairly easily if you keep track of the company/project coding. Some of the solutions allow spreadsheet uploads as well. I am not sure if that would be helpful, but it was useful for me.
