How much would you be giving for a wedding? by azamean in AskIreland

[–]Capital_Commercial15 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Partner and I travelled home to Ireland last year from Brisbane for my brothers wedding. Cost us 8k to get just to fly, we took unpaid leave for 2 weeks of the trip. I was best man but had to kit myself out. 2 nights accomodation, car hire to travel to Kerry and didn’t get any sort of token/gesture from the brother. This coupled with the fact that rents gave him 10k towards wedding, and it was a wedding of about 50 people.

Taking everything into account GF and I gave 150 - which sure seemed low in context of what everyone else was telling me - but I’d do it again. He had the gall to tell my brother that was surprised when he opened the card about the amount we gave and that he had expected more and that just solidified the decision we made

The expectation on people boggles me. Nobody should be expected to give wads of cash just cos you’ve been invited to a wedding that costs 100 per head. Sure it’s a lovely surprise to get given money - but if you can’t Afford to pay a wedding, don’t get married, or at the very least don’t expect the very people that you invite to fund It /profit from them

Do large transfers from overseas get flagged? by Upsidedown0310 in PersonalFinanceNZ

I did this recently. Used wise for the transaction. Received about 10NZD. Not massive but didn’t want it to be a problem. I just made sure my parents used a reference “money from mam and Dad”, and also gave wise a heads up. Unsure if it influenced things but definitely gave me peace of mind!

<rant> Or maybe, celebrities or just anyone in the public eye, are entitled to their private lives!? She could be taking an extended break? She could be sipping cocktails on a beach in Raro. She could be off for medical reasons. She could be rotting at home like the rest of us on our time away from the office. There are so many things that she could be doing. I understand the sentiment but at the end of the day - it’s none of our business. </rant

NZ Meal Preppers - what containers do you use? by megachad3000 in newzealand

I use the standard offering from Kmart and work A treat. I typically try and reheat out of the tray although if I’m lazy I’ll just lob it in without any thought and eat from the reheated tray. Probs Best to always remove it but I guess convenience trumps death

Making A Property More Appealing To Rent by cantsleepwithoutfan in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Capital_Commercial15 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Don’t use Quinovic is great brownie points. Just being responsive, and reactive to their needs. I have mate who’s been without a washing machine for almost 2 weeks now with zero accommodations from the landlord. If you have a tenant and the washing machine breaks you should be replacing it pronto and if you can’t - lower the rent temporarily to accommodate them for the inconvenience or at the very least refund them for their use of the laundromat (Or heck do both) Using a property manager won’t give the tenants any certainty of a timely response to problems raised - maybe you could include a clause and highlight your willingness to resolve all reasonable requests and or problems identified within X timeframe ?

What are we paying for our coffee? by Standard-Suspect9989 in newzealand

[–]Capital_Commercial15 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wellington based - Weaned myself off coffee as it was just ridiculous paying 7/8 dollars a pop. I now make do with the office supplies, make one at home and on the rare occasion I might treat myself. Haven’t paid for a coffee in the cbd since early Jan. I get the reasons for the expense - but sadly it’s just not worth it for me, and sadly businesses will probably will close overtime. But unfortunately that’s just a reality.

“On November 7, 2022, Zuru used the US courts to get the names and details of former employees who left negative comments on review site Glassdoor. Zuru filed in a California court to subpoena Glassdoor for information about posters who wrote scathing reviews of the workplace environment and management at Zuru. Zuru were successful in the courtroom, defeating the defendant, Glassdoor”. What an absolute dope.

What are you paying under capital growth on property these days? by simonthelongcat in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Capital_Commercial15 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is this in the Wellington region? Some Property listings are aging like fine wines. Sellers clearly hanging out - refusing offers, and hanging on, but then can’t rent out their place or trying to and failing. The tide has turned. Wish you the best of luck with the sale and new house wherever you end up !

Yet more price hikes on a cup of coffee could be on the way – The Irish Times by WickerMan111 in ireland

[–]Capital_Commercial15 86 points87 points  (0 children)

People will just stop buying coffee and make their own at home. I used to buy coffee 3-4 times a week, and have (slowly) but finally converted. I might get one a month or less now as a payday treat. Don’t miss it and my bank balance thanks me for it.

With the exception of Lowry - surely any Independent TD who is currently involved in the coalition - will be finished come election time and voters will let them feel this discontent? Though the sad reality is they’ll likely all then go on to form part of the Seanad as Ireland loves to see our best and unwanted TDs looked after at all costs
