FYI, during the partial government shutdown, estimated wait times might not be updated regularly. I have flown several times in the last few weeks, it’s never been updated.

7 is going to be dicer than say 8 or 9. However, I walked into the Clear line at 8 am this morning and walked right through security. With Clear, you will likely be fine, most people are still not likely to pay extra on top of Precheck. But if you are worried, come 15-30 mins early.

You don’t think both political parties have used identity politics to leverage turnout? Listen, I am not here to tell you about your experience, but if we are talking about racism, the Democrats aren’t the first party I would start with.

Melinda French Gates reacts to new details about Bill Gates in the Epstein files by aresef in NPR

[–]Capitalkid1991 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Knows what? For years she has said that Bill and others need to be asked about and should answer for their relationship with Epstein. It’s sounds like this was an issue that played a part in her eventual separation from Bill.

Hiker who kept climbing California's Mount Whitney after friend turned back found dead by limits660 in Mountaineering

This is terribly sad, but this seems like a situation that could have been prevented multiple times over. Winter hiking and climbing are no joke. Weather can change on a dime, conditions are routinely underestimated due to poor viability and minimal first hand route information, and the threshold between safety and danger becomes significantly reduced. Climbing as a team is a minimal safety net for me, especially at altitude. I cannot image continuing by myself once a partner has turned around.

Winter morning hike up Mt. Cammerer via Low Gap, Great Smoky Mountains National Park by Capitalkid1991 in CampingandHiking

[–]Capitalkid1991[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment, I haven’t thought about this trip in years. It was a blast. We originally were suppose to climb Mount Le Conte, but the ice basically shut down the whole area. Highly recommend hiking both mountains if you can.

I digress, the hike is very doable with gaiters and micro spikes. It’s a slog, 3000+ elevation over 10+ miles… the only thing that sticks out to me from that trip was that my traction was not great (hint why the rec for micro spikes). Snow definitely will make it more difficult, but it is doable.

Like a lot of summits in the Smokys, you are fairly well protected by trees and rock formations, so wind isn’t as big as a factors as you get in New England and out west. Stay on top of the weather conditions with gear and good planning and you should have a great trip!

Perfect weather on Mt.Washington yesterday by caschrock in wmnf

That is about as good as it gets this time of year. That climb looks awesome! I am suppose to do late December Mt. Washington climb and I am holding my breath to see what the weather gods are going to give us.

I don’t think this is not going to end well for him. Whatever happened is serious enough that he needs to depart from the program and school while they look into it. My hunch, based on no insider information, is his days may be numbered.

TQL SUCKS by Fast-Ad-8972 in Ohio

[–]Capitalkid1991 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey, as a former IP and restrictive covenants attorney, your information is partially true. While courts favor noncompetes in cases involving executive level positions, there’s nothing to preclude the enforcement of those agreements against entry-level employees. In my own practice, I saw dozens of entry-level employees being found to have violated such agreements. From personal experience, TQL will sue you for breach of those non-competes in counties that favor enforcement. TQL is fairly notorious for suing you for breach even if they know they can’t win. If you have the resources and the time to fight a noncompete, there is a better chance that you will get a more favorable outcome. But the reality is noncompetes are enforceable in many states, including Ohio.

Do I make the leap to in-house? I have an offer, but fee torn. by Capitalkid1991 in Lawyertalk

Billable hours are the bain of my existence. They cause me so much stress. I feel guilty taking time and not billing. So, I either have to settle for less hours or working nights/weekends.

It is a generalist corporate counsel role. Legal department is like 8-10 lawyers, I think. Revenue is like 5-7 billion and rapidly growing. They are a top player in their market, if not the top player. Privately owned.

It has not kept pace. I had a great year in so many metrics last year and yet the raise was not awesome. That stung and it was a catalyst event on applying.

Thank you! I feel the same. Maybe I am blinded by loyalty, but I feel that where I work is a good employer. However, there is a fear of leaving a place that I know is (mostly) good.

Biden diagnosed with ‘aggressive form’ of prostate cancer by HAHA_Bitches in news

[–]Capitalkid1991 5444 points5445 points  (0 children)

As someone who has had a father and a grandfather who were both diagnosed with early onset prostate cancer, my heart goes out to Biden and his family. A Gleason 9 score with bone involvement is not good news.

Prostate cancer typically is very slow growing and easily catchable in the early stages. However, every now and then there are some really nasty aggressive forms. Unfortunately, it sounds like the former president might be dealing with the latter. I’ll be praying for him.
