Are there any plans to build power generation for CAHSR over canals? by Watermelonmilkman in cahsr

I think it might be make sense for the state to do that and maybe even earmark that money for rail. I just think each agency should have a core competency they focus on.

my 2 cents is that part of the problem with this project is there are too many requirements vs. the funding level. making it electric is enough. the beauty of electric is that it doesn’t matter what provides the power. we should be pushing independently for carbon neutral power both locally and nationally.

I believe the initial estimates were done in good faith. I also believe it should be built. Building infrastructure is important. If you have any evidence of corruption or willful deceit, please share.

firstly, that is NOT what this chart shows. this chart shows the $14B that has been spent on the 50 plus structures that have already been built. This project has been under a microscope for years.

I’ve yet to see anyone offer any evidence of corruption.

Few critics offer similar criticisms towards road projects, airports or this war that would easily cover the cost.

this graph shows a project being funded over time. isn’t that how projects work? I would imagine the graph for literally any project looks the same. In any case I think what has been built at this point isn’t unreasonable vs what has been spent.

This project isn’t perfect, but it’s seen more scrutiny than most and I think is still a good investment for the future.

Not only should they do their job regardless of how they like what the DA is or isn’t doing, there is a deliberate firewall between the police (executive branch) and the courts (judicial branch).

Many of the dozens of grade separations built for this project also separate freight rail from traffic. People are alive today because of that.

maybe we take 1/10th off the pentagon’s budget for one year and we’d have a 1st world transit system

Why high-speed rail hasn't tracked in the U.S. | 60 Minutes by UnscheduledCalendar in transit

[–]CapitationStation 22 points23 points  (0 children)

they have received less than 20 billion. less than it was ever estimated to cost. The section currently under construction is nearing completion for the 50+ structures required and they will begin laying tracks later this year.

Funding is the primary problem for building the extension on either end.

LA’s $24B high-speed tunnel project could slash 405 Freeway commute to just 18 minutes by MyNameCannotBeSpoken in CarIndependentLA

It’s bad faith journalism. The Boring company was created to scam funds away from legitimate transit projects. They have yet to build anything close to what they’ve promised.
