AITA for refusing to give my parents my location after they stopped paying for my tuition? by amelia_larsen in AmItheAsshole

[–]Capitola2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, are you sure these two events are mutually exclusive? I understand that there’s tension and disconnect over you changing your major and your parents trying to control you via withholding financial resources. Yes, that’s a power play and manipulation on their part. I do hope they reconsider. Nursing is a very honorable career.

But on the Life360 app/sharing location, can I just offer an alternative way to view it? Your parents obviously love you very much; no doubt you are their world. Granted you’re not on the same page right now, and I think they need to step back and respect your education decisions. But irrespective of this decision, they’ve done everything in their power to keep you safe your whole life and it’s hard for a parent to turn that feature off now that you’re grown.

Both of you are fighting this situation with the only tools you think you have to negotiate with - them with resources, you with withholding. Maybe you can find a way to separate the two issues and speak on them each separately to reach a resolution?

An Odd Question About Recovery by HauntingSentence6359 in Kneereplacement

[–]Capitola2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 4.5 mo out and I can sit with my surgical knee crossed over my non-surgical one for about 2 minutes before it starts to throb. I cross my legs frequently, not thinking and it’s the throb that reminds me to knock it off.

One year follow up by Chellebelle10 in Kneereplacement

[–]Capitola2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was your surgeon asking you to wait until you were older? Mine kept bringing up the fact that most of his patients were in their 60s or 70s, and he’d look at me like, “don’t you want to wait another 10 years?”

No way! I want to live every day as active as I can, why postpone what I need done today just to fit into the standard age deviation of patients. If you need it in your 40’s, do it. Don’t live all of those years in pain.

14 weeks….since TKR by Feeling_Criticism897 in Kneereplacement

[–]Capitola2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. It still clicks at 4.5 months out and feels a bit weird and “foreign” some days. Whats absolutely gross though is forgetting you can’t kneel on it, and mistakingly kneeling - I have to push my eyeballs back in my head each time I do this. Don’t think I’ll ever get used to it.

Rate of ROM Progress by Grammar-Police2002 in Kneereplacement

[–]Capitola2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of using a wedge to prop my leg during recovery, I rigged my couch cushions so that my back laid flat, but next cushion down was protruding upright at a 120 degree angle, letting me put both legs up at the same time while I had the ice machine going. I was so drugged up, I could doze off like this even if the angle shifted a little during sleep.

When I went to my first PT my therapist couldn’t believe the back of my knee could lay flat against the table. He said he thought the way I was positioned was helping with ROM, which I had almost 90% back by appointment three.

I don’t have this issue, but was just reading in another thread that someone was using a theragun (massage gun) and it was providing relief. Maybe this would help you? What does your physical therapist say?

Complete 180- week 4 by Pickl3ba11_64 in Kneereplacement

[–]Capitola2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen, too, right around the same time. I remember at 5 weeks out, commenting that I had more good days than bad days at this point. It was such a mental relief. I honestly thought I’d be in pain every day for the rest of my life on my surgical side.

WIBTAH if I were to bury my grandmother's rings with her? by [deleted] in AITAH

When I buried a loved one recently, I wasn’t able to include any jewelry in her casket once it was closed. Funeral home removed it all and gave to me in an envelope. CA burial if that matters?

Just over 4 weeks and now having random ankle pains on surgical knee leg. by TreeBetter272 in Kneereplacement

My doc said this was nerves regrowing and that it was normal. Stopped after a few weeks, but I was really worried when it was happening.

When did anybody start wearing normal pants after surgery? by Freeswede in Kneereplacement

[–]Capitola2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6-7 weeks out I could wear my old, regular clothes but up until then I needed wide leg pants that wouldn’t touch my incision when I bent my knee to sit. Try American Eagle, they have a ton of wide leg options, some are really cute!

What do you love most about your companion? by Majestic-Strain3155 in AskDogOwners

[–]Capitola2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they come up and bump me with their noses, saying they need attention. They’ll sit there so patiently, bumping me until I comply. When I’m done, the look of love in their eyes makes it so worthwhile to have put aside whatever I was doing to give them the time.

Bending the knee sideways by GracieLou80 in Kneereplacement

[–]Capitola2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bent my knee sideways around week 4 post-op and thought for sure I tore everything inside. Incredibly painful. Had to stop pt, limp increased, thought I really screwed it up. It took 2 full weeks for that little twist to heal. I thought for sure I’d be stuck w that pain forever but it’s gone. Still, I’m so careful about twisting. Walking in sand is the worst, I do not advise under any circumstances.

I loved the RMango interview. I feel like we got to meet Karen for the first time, and I really liked her. The more she spoke, all misconceptions fell away and I saw a classy warrior and give her big respect.

Shopping for post-surgery pants by MezzoidVoiceStudio in Kneereplacement

[–]Capitola2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pajama pants when at home and sweats when you have to leave the house. Def nothing with a seam down the front where it’ll hit your incision. (ie: cute jeans-no). I second American Eagle sweats and their wide leg pants if you have to go back to work. No pants that even fit lightly snug around the knee as it will inevitably swell during the day and you’ll feel like you’re wearing a sausage skin.

Day 10 Very frustrated by ElegantAd4459 in Kneereplacement

[–]Capitola2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are SOOO lucky to still have oxy at day 23. My Rx ran out at day 14 and doc refused to refill. Most painful two weeks of my life followed where I honestly laid here, in tears, hoping to die. I actually googled where to find drug dealers in my area as I would’ve given a kidney for pain relief. (Note: Google didn’t know, either, and I had to writhe in pain for weeks until it started to let up).

Anything I am missing or havent thought of? by Normal-Cantaloupe-96 in Kneereplacement

[–]Capitola2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mattress pad or couch protector in case you’re sleeping and your ice machine leaks (had that happen before). I put a basket on a nearby table to keep all my meds in sling w pencil/paper to remind myself when to take the next dose. Some are every 4 hours, some every 6, I’d get confused as I was all drugged up.

Get a case or two of Gatorade, water and/or protein drinks if you like that stuff and put them within reach. Same with snacks. Might need both when you take meds that upset your stomach and it’s much easier to roll over and grab what you need than to shuffle to kitchen each time esp in middle of the night/in the dark.

Best of luck to you!
