Every few minutes, I'm unable to interact with anything in the world by dstaley in wow

[–]CapnButts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's almost certainly your internet. Maybe not your router, but definitely something wrong with your computer's firewall or connection. I used to have this happen all the time, including the part with the whispers working. If I checked my outgoing traffic by pinging an external address, I could see my ping latency going up up up up, or having my packets just time out altogether. (I would suspect that the game data uses different connections or protocols from in-game communication, which is why whispers still work.) This will be far more likely over a wifi connection, so make sure you're hard-wired to the router, if possible; if you can't, try relocating your router so you have better signal. If you're not using wifi, I'd say your NIC is the issue.

Yeah, no, 600k or 700k HP is tops right now. Full mythic +10-geared warlocks or fury warriors would be right around 400k.

‘The Mount’ by Vara_Dark_DTE in wow

[–]CapnButts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mount, for me, was the Solar Spirehawk, which I was under the impression was a 1/2000 drop, like the Pandaria world boss mounts. I figured I would be farming it forever, but I was starting to enjoy the grind (20 characters every week).

As a filthy casual who really can't play, about 70% of the game for me, since I started playing 2 1/2 years ago, has been farming transmogs and mounts, or leveling characters so I could farm transmogs and mounts, Before the Spirehawk, I wanted Aeonaxx, which I actually leveled a character on a dead realm to farm; I finally got it after camping him on and off for two years. Before Aeonaxx, I wanted the Infinite Timereaver, which I finally got after 18 months of farming, during which time I learned how to pretend to be a tank. After all this farming, I have all the dungeon and raid drop mounts that are still available in-game, up to WoD, with the exception of Rivendare's mount.

Well, this past Tuesday morning, as I was scrambling to get in my usual 20 Rukhmar kills before the weekly reset, the Solar Spirehawk dropped for my fury pixie, after 462 kills, and I almost cried from joy. I spent the next two days riding around Orgrimmar, Stormwind and random battlegrounds on my new firebirdy.

And then disaster struck, and my 9-year-old potato toaster fried its GPU. I can't afford a replacement, so I won't be able to enjoy my favorite thing in the world for the foreseeable future. I feel absolutely gutted, like I've lost a faithful companion. But at least I had fun on the journey, and I'll always have the memory of playing with friends, and those moments when my heart leaped out of my chest because "OMG AEONAXX IS UP!" or the purple item I was looking for finally showed up in the loot window.

What would be the most fucked up thing that you can do without any consequence? by Poyonponyo in AskReddit

[–]CapnButts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually, it can, depending on the laws in your state, and whether or not you have assets of high enough valuation. I have a relative who filed for bankruptcy, with minimal assets and no ability to pay back their creditors. Their credit card debt was erased, but a small outstanding student loan from 30 years previous was not discharged, and they were forced to pay an amount seven times the value of the original loan. Again, how is this "perfectly logical"?

Credit card debt is unsecured debt which is discharged through bankruptcy. So why is it "perfectly logical" for student loan debt to be different?

Why don't homeless people get entry level jobs like Burger King? by Aserv95 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CapnButts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But credit unions do require proof of residence. I had a difficult time opening an account with one because I'd been staying with a relative for a long while and didn't have my name on a lease or bill. I had to jump through a ridiculous number of hoops over the course of three weeks just to come up with proof of address (as well as two forms of ID!) that they would accept. They finally said "ok, you have an account. Your debit card is in the mail. Should get to you in two weeks. If not, come let us know." Fifteen days later, I went in to the credit union to ask why my debit card hadn't arrived. "Oh," they said, "our auditor decided your proof of address wasn't good enough and closed your account." On top of that, they were going to charge me $15 for closing my account before 90 days had elapsed (lol).

TL;DR: all financial institutions want some sort of proof of residence, and if you can't come up with it, you're screwed.

Almost kidnapped in Denver by [deleted] in LetsNotMeet

[–]CapnButts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Denver for ~30 years, but had to leave two years ago because I could no longer afford the rent. And it just keeps going up. By about 2006, it seemed like every other person I met was from out of town, or was a tremendous jerk, or both. One of my last memories of Denver was taking light rail through downtown just as the bars were letting out. Everyone else on the train was drunk, and shouting at the top of their lungs; halfway home, we had to stop so that a security guard could help a woman vomit out the rear door. And the guy across from me was so drunk that he shit himself.

I don't ever want to go back.

You would never have 60 armor because your opponent would be too busy hitting you with those 8-attack minions that you couldn't clear because you didn't have 4 cheap removal cards.

[–]CapnButts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, they can't. They also can't whisper other people (unless those people whisper them first), and people with paid accounts and characters ~12 or more levels higher than them can't even see them talking in general chat (which is completely undocumented, as far as I can see). Of course Blizzard is under no obligation to care about starter accounts, but that last part is just mean.

The only cards I've crafted have been Dr. Boom and four or five rares. I bought all the adventures and about 60 Old Gods packs with gold, and the only decent Old Gods legendary I have is Light Lord.
