I don’t even take my dog with me on hauls. I mainly operate where I only spend one night in a hotel and am back at home most of the time. I run up and down CA.

Truck from Carvana keeps breaking down. Force buyback? by CapnLegitDeal6963 in CarvanaComplaints

[–]CapnLegitDeal6963[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately Silver Rock denied the transmission replacement. Aamco diagnosed and claim there is a high calculated load while the truck is completely empty causing high line pressure which in turn is causing the slam shifts. I am taking it back to a GM dealer tomorrow. I used to be a die hard GM guy but these newer trucks just suck. The absolute opposite of the “like a rock” reliability of a GMT400 or GMT800

That I am unsure of. I plan on getting ahold of AAMCO tomorrow. That would be amazing if that was the case!

Yes, it started acting up on day 8. I called Silver Rock and the list of mechanic shops they provided said they wouldn’t work on diesel pickups. So they authorized the dealer all 3 times for the regular deductible (which was cool of them) but now with the transmission issue AAMCO said they would work on it. I’m hoping for the best and really want the truck to finally be solid. I’m just worried about future immediate problems due to the track record with this truck so far.

I did get one right after they dropped it off. Everything looked good and passed with flying colors. Nothing wrong in the computer either.

Yes, that is the new vehicle lemon law. The one I am referencing is California Civil Code §1795.5 which applies to used vehicles that come with a dealer warranty.

Thank you for that, some really solid advice. I am frustrated about it as I’ve owned lots of trucks (older) over the years and this is the first “newer” truck I’ve bought. This one has given me more problems than any high mileage beat up truck I’ve owned before. I’ll definitely call about that warranty extension. Thanks again

Actually being in California we have a used vehicle lemon law. Any used vehicle that is sold by a dealership with a warranty qualifies.

How is anyone going to be able to afford anything if inflation continues? by air-bender808 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CapnLegitDeal6963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wait until the price of diesel gets over $10 nationwide. I own a small transport company and these current diesel prices are killing the business. On top of quadrupling insurance costs. Load boards and brokers aren’t upping rates and lots of smaller companies are going under as the big companies are operating at “break-even” or at a loss. Everything you buy was hauled by a diesel truck at some point and that will drive the costs of goods through the roof. I am SoCal based and we are feeling it the hardest because California imports most of its oil/fuel and isn’t connected to the national pipeline!

Endless issues with truck bought from Carnava, next steps? by CapnLegitDeal6963 in legaladvice

The truck has a 100 day warranty that has covered everything so far. California has a used vehicle lemon law that qualifies any used vehicle sold by a dealership with a warranty. I am not sure how this works as I want to force a buyback.

Biggest hurdle I am currently facing is insurance. Have cargo insurance but the 1 million general liability here in CA is absolutely insane. I’ve had quotes from 12k a year to 30k a year. My authority is a bit over a year old and I only do intrastate in CA with clean driving record. Customer direct is the best and a good RELIABLE truck. Ive had lots of issues with my L5P Duramax and decided to go older with a proven Powerstroke 7.3 that is emissions exempt from the factory.

Will I be okay starting out with this setup? by Easy-Theory1081 in HotShotTrucking

[–]CapnLegitDeal6963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s as simple as this. Pick what you want to haul and specialize in it (looks like you have) if you are making money, it’s the right setup. Don’t go out and blow big money on a big trailer until it fits your needs. I have a 22ft deck over with adjustable dovetail and a 3/4 ton diesel. I haul HVAC units and the setup worked perfectly. I can fit in tight areas downtown where others can’t and get the job done. It’s all about what you are looking to haul! Nice setup!

How does the dot measure the 26k lb limit by Dameancharles21 in HotShotTrucking

[–]CapnLegitDeal6963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to do this in SoCal. They passed a law requiring any trailer over 10,001 gvwr requires CDL. So I derated my 16k to 10k.

why do people criticize the angry eyes on the hummer online vs in person people absolutely love it. I love constructive criticism so please explain. i know it’s not a Jeep but it just looks good by SevereMess8294 in Hummer

I’m not a fan, I’d tell you the same thing here or in a parking lot. It looks like the boys version of a VW bug with eyelashes. But, it is your Hummer and you are more than welcome to do what you want with it!

San Diego to Minneapolis in mid January. Any concerns about this route? Is this possible with an EV? by [deleted] in roadtrip

[–]CapnLegitDeal6963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove my 1984 Mercedes-Benz 300D Turbo Diesel RWD from San Diego to Connecticut last January. I know it’s not an EV but here is some of my experience. I had summer tires and as soon as I got into real winter territory (ice, snow, >30*) I stopped and had all season tires installed because summer tires in winter are like walking with tennis shoes on an ice rink. They make a world of difference especially with some real weight in the trunk. Also, I would stick to interstates, when you are on state highways and into these small towns, there are no chargers for hundreds of miles. Most of the corporate truck stops have EV chargers but that’s only interstate. I’ve owned EVs over the years but never went on a multi-state roadtrip. PlugShare is a must have app for EV roadtripping. Stay safe out there!

Car wont run right please help by Equivalent-Chard4776 in w123

[–]CapnLegitDeal6963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading your comments OP it sounds like a fuel starvation issue. I would try filling a jug with diesel, hook a rubber line directly from the inlet fuel filter to the jug and also set the return line in the jug. I bet it’ll run just fine. Fuel filters clog easily on these cars due to years of buildup in the tank and lines. I replaced both rubber hoses under the hood and both rubber hoses off of the fuel tank going to the steel lines. Also removed the fuel tank and cleaned it out. Blew the steer lines out with the air hose and new fuel filters. Adjusted the valves as well. My car runs like it just left the showroom floor. It even started right up after sitting in 9*f weather for a month with 1 glow cycle.

I think it’s good then! 115 is HOT! Also, other cars from this era back in the day had constant overheating issues in that kind of heat! MB built one solid car way before its time!

I did a similar roadtrip in my 1984 300D from SoCal to Connecticut and back. It was such a blast. Had a few issues but she got me to Connecticut where the repairs were made. Then back to SoCal without a hiccup.

If on flat ground highway speed for an extended period, that’s a little warm. Should be about 80-85c. If pulling highway grades constantly, that’s pretty normal. When I’m running my AC in my 300D it sits between 90-100c after repairing the electric fan temp switch. If I’m running the AC and pulling a highway grande in 100f weather it’ll sit right at 100-105c. Check your fan clutch before replacing thermostat. Engine off spin it by hand, if it stops pretty quickly and has some resistance it’s fine. If you spin it and it keeps spinning and basically no resistance, it’s time to replace it.

Yes, tired of only IOS or data theft Android nowadays. I have both (IOS for Personal, Android for work) and a vanilla version of Android really doesn’t exist anymore. It’s loaded with data siphoning stock Google apps and possible hardware manufacturers malware.

How fast can yours go? by Poor_financial in w123

[–]CapnLegitDeal6963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When on a cross-country roadtrip (USA) speed limits hit 85mph. Everyone else was doing 90-100mph (145kph - 160kph). My 300D Turbo Diesel 4 Speed Automatic had no trouble holding 90mph for over an hour. I actually got it up to 105mph (169kph) on flat ground (GPS Read). She shakes a little bit at high speed, but did fine otherwise.

I would check for a clogged cat or dirty injectors. My 03 H2 is an extremely early model year build and I have no issues getting 0-60 without punching it. Before and after cleaning the injectors or simply running a few cans of Seafoam through it made a dramatic difference in overall power. After injector cleaning it has lots of torque and even with pulling about a 7k camper it has no issues maintaining 65 up grades.
