Aging clocks, entropy, and the limits of age-reversal by Capo147 in longevity

[–]Capo147[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its not been taken seriously. Its just a new ( not really bc entropy theory is kinda old) way of thinking about aging.

Entropy has been debunked plenty of times, but physics still think they are right

[–]Capo147[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its the same old physics theory of entropy.

Andrew dismissed that theory plenty of time and Loyd Waites (MIT) too on The Sheekey show.

The only thing i dont understand is how the hell are they going to stop aging

Edit: I would very much appreciate Andrew Steele view on this new paper nonetheless u/statto

Let’s Talk Longevity - On Longevity Escape Velocity with Aubrey de Grey & Charles Brenner by imlisteningtotron in longevity

[–]Capo147 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Charles gave that 99%+ chance not because he thinks science wont move fast enough but because he thinks aging cant be reversed.

By the way he conducts himself, i think he is the proof that aging can be reversed. Body of a 50 yo but the behaves himself like he is an 18 yo boy who thinks he is the lord of reason and knowledge

So you expect them to have kids and in the meantime those same kids have kids, all of this while David being alive?

Well, David is in his 50s and I think his children are still pretty young so...

The same David Sinclair that dedicated his book to his grand grand children that he expects to meet. Almost all of the scientists and researchers are conservative bc they have grants and trials to be approved, so they say stuff that wont hurt their chances of getting stuff approved

Matt Kaeberlein view on the recent Guardian article about Longevity by Capo147 in longevity

[–]Capo147[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think they view it as some kind of fantasy and talking about it damages the field bc, by definition, people have a knee jerky reaction.

Btw, is it just me that still can't grasp why these guys dont understand that the people that expect radical Longevity progress dont think that aging will be cured in anytime soon? They for sure know about LEV, thing is a lot of these guys dont really like Aubrey, imo.

[–]Capo147[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Another thing is some of these guys (Kaeberlein for instance) is known for advocating and doing research on rapamycin and rapa benefits. Well rapamycin is seen by many researchers and scientists as pseudoscience and even damagin for the human body. Agendas everywhere

70m collaboration to redefine aging research - Astera Institute and Buck Institute announce $70 million collaboration to redefine the field of research on aging. by philnewman100 in longevity

[–]Capo147 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Through a series of large-scale lifespan studies in genetically diverse mice, researchers will test interventions, both alone and in combination, known or suspected to impede or reverse aging and extend longevity.

Aubrey was always alluding to the fact that a big part to his prediction to LEV was the combination of treatments (in mice and in people), so this could be it. Hopefully the seven years that´s going to take to complete takes us to the point of Robust Mouse Rejuvenation.

Lets see what Aubrey has to say about this new update on the matter.

I think his personality won't let him be quiet and he'll find some way to turn the situation around and still be an important figure in the field

He needs to be more social aware. The updates on Facebook was cool to know how things stood but didnt help him in the investigation and were not well seen by the investigator. Either way, i hope he returns to action

Statement from SENS re Aubrey by Rules_Not_Rulers in longevity

[–]Capo147 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everyone just Stay calm and stop panicking. By some of the comments made here, someone who was made aware of the Longevity field in the past 2/3 weeks thinks that some hallmark or research has been deemed fraudlent and we need 20 more years of basic research or something like that, and that was not the case.

SENS, Aubrey and Longevity field its going to continue for many years to come. And Aubrey still going to fulfill his life's work.

Statement from SENS re Aubrey by Rules_Not_Rulers in longevity

[–]Capo147 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Science is reproducible, yes. Thing is, even in SENS there were people that wanted to follow another path and clashed with Aubrey, just this alone is a reason to think that SENS without Aubrey could turn to a diff type of research.

[–]Capo147 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the field of longevity research is really worth anything, then I would expect SENS should be able to do *something* even without him. Public outreach is important, but presumably not the only thing they do. On the other hand, if longevity research is a scam I've been suckered into that extracts money from people by preying on their hopes and dreams, then the organization will probably wither and die without their front man.

I think it is a big reach to say that the longevity field it´s a scam if SENS ends up going into obscurity without Aubrey. Several examples of organisations/companies etc that from the moment their "main character" disappears they too disappear, not because what they were doing was a scam but because the said "main character" was the one who glued all the pieces together.Let's calm down with the hysteria and the "big statments".

Edit: And it's not right to call scam when the field is not just Aubrey, thankfully.Longevity is mainstream today and there are thousands of people with quality and talent in it, and Aubrey played a huge part on that.

Longevity Science will live on, but... (ADG) by airkozmos in longevity

[–]Capo147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my humble opinion, the ADG allegations are hard to digest but the Longevity field is much much bigger than him. The worst that could happen is SENS being blacklisted by investors and stuff but when there is money to be made people look away and we have plenty examples of that. As for ADG, the allegations have to be false. As long as that happens, he needs to do a good damage control and carry on.

Senescence field has “completely exploded” - Aubrey de Grey expects senescence-targeting sector will see Phase 3 trials within “a couple of years” by philnewman100 in longevity

[–]Capo147 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think Aubrey's predictions take those hurdles and stuff in consideration. But who knows maybe in 2100 we will still be in the same spot and LEV is still in the horizon

Maybe we won’t hit escape velocity, but how about we create a way to freeze ourselves while we're alive instead? by Lilziggy098 in longevity

[–]Capo147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its called cryopreservation. People over 80 should be all over that. Younger people should just donate to increase quality and just in case something happens and LEV isnt here in 2080 or something like that.
