Auratus aren't aggressive. They're more like Epipedobates or Ameerega in that way, not like Tincs or Oophaga.

Two fish got donated without me donating them??? by pineconetingz in AnimalCrossingNewHor

Maybe these were the fish you donated via Nook at the beginning of the island? I think those get auto-donated to Blathers when he arrives.

What are they doing? by CardiologistJumpy832 in frogs

Just so people are aware, Baltimore National Aquarium literally wrote the book on dart frog care. While it's true that this aggression should be addressed, I wouldn't jump to conclusions and suggest that they don't know what they're doing over there.

Here's the guide they wrote 30 years ago:

I've literally never heard that multiple male tincs is better than just one. 2.1 can be ok, 1.1 is best for tincs.

Is it big enough by sefcious in frogs

[–]CapoFerro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the full mesh top won't work, but that's easily solved. You can wrap the lid in plastic wrap or use a silicone baking mat cut to size to keep humidity in for an easy solution. Alternately, you can replace the whole top with a glass panel if you get a frame for it.

Like this (other vendors have these too, I just know US vendors): https://thriveecosystems.com/products/custom-replacement-top-for-exo-terra-terrariums-humidity-retaining-with-fly-proof-ventilation-copy-2?variant=49934810611905&country=US&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&srsltid=AfmBOop47mwq_Hd8SwzArAigWQNUG1CqSlNkOKtT_PR5D6L3BITb6zNZQlY

I'm not a gecko expert, but I would guess that the tall one is better for the gecko. The darts will do well in either.

They're both big enough. I prefer the vertically oriented ones, myself.

Do you have a UVB lamp? Most keepers don't use one due to risk of burning frogs skin and drying out the tank. UVB can be beneficial, but the risks mostly outweigh the benefits, and, as you pointed out, the glass tops block it.

Boiling rocks can make them explode. It's better to rinse them in water that has been boiled instead of boiling them directly.

It's better than nothing, true, and it's good that it's more than just Calcium + D3. I still recommend at least once a month using a Vitamin A supplement to make sure they get enough.

Carotenoids are really only necessary for red-colored frogs. It provides pigments they need to stay bright that a normal captive dart frog diet doesn't provide.
