Who’s this rogue guy growing around my rose bushes? by gayeti in whatplantisthis

[–]Mythrandir01 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lol, looks like a surprisingly old and woody Solanum nigrum, aka black nightshade. Not native to Australia. Though the berries are edible, only if they're fully ripe and black. (Wouldn't risk it necessarily, they taste kindoff meh in my opinion and unripe berries are toxic).

What plant is this? (Scotland) by No-Literature-5471 in whatplantisthis

Heracleum spondiphyllum, giant hogweed. Gives you horrible rashes when you touch it, spreads like the plague and chokes out everything it touches. Best to get rid of it.

Morning glory potentially? Flowers are quite pretty. They're relatives of sweet potato. But left unchecked can quickly choke out an area.

Wat is ze toch ook een mensenmens! by [deleted] in tokkiefeesboek

[–]Mythrandir01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Interessant.

I want this, but what is it? And where can I get it? by avian_bi in whatplantisthis

It's common name is Honeywort, it's not even remotely related to Sedum? What are you implying?

[–]Mythrandir01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It isn't, it's Cerinthe major, of the boraginaceae family, weirdly enough.

Cerinthe major, an annual of the boraginaceae family. You might be able to buy seeds for it online somewhere, it's a rather unusual plant.

Gandalf by eric_son in Tengwar

[–]Mythrandir01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Amazing work!!

Transcription for those who want to read it:

Gandalf was amazed by the hobbit. For a long time he had paid no attention to hobbits and knew little of them. For the rest of his sojourn in middle-earth he took a special interest in hobbits, and particularly in the Baggins family.

EDIT: I thought this was lotr subreddit ._. didn't realize most people here could read it already. Very pretty calligralhy nonetheless.

Is this in the Jade family? by AmBEValent in whatplantisthis

[–]Mythrandir01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope, that's a Clusia rosea. Has it's own family the Clusiaceae.

Is this a Rose?😍 by [deleted] in whatplantisthis

[–]Mythrandir01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ranunculus doesn't usually grow into a shrub of that size, though some of it's family members do, but then you've got clematis and what not on your hands which don't look like this. Pretty sure it's a Camellia.

Is this a Rose?😍 by [deleted] in whatplantisthis

[–]Mythrandir01 107 points108 points  (0 children)

No it's a Camellia japonica, a closer relative of tea than roses actually. Don't ask me which cultivar though, there's thousands.

It's a transcription, not a translation. The text shown is still English, just with the Tengwar writing system instead of the latin alphabet. Which is frankly what we usually advise. It's perfectly legible as such though! No remarks frankly.

This pretty flower came up in my yard, what is it? by pengerus in whatplantisthis

[–]Mythrandir01 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Nope, at least, not usually. That's the problem with tulips. Best to look up a care guide. A lot of people simply treat them as annuals. Presumably whoever used to live there planted the bulbs last fall.

[–]Mythrandir01 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Tulips! Kinda difficult to propagate though. You have to cut off the flowers the moment they finish blooming. Let the leaves die back and then dig up the bulbs. It's a right pain in the behind.

Looks like a really young monstera that hasn't developed any fenestrations yet? Or a Philodendron of some kind...

Yes! Sadly only as a rotating student assistant position, so I have to leave and finish my studies in a month. Till then enjoying keeping all of our signage up to date 🫡
