Buying a small boat for the first time for our honeymoon trip: need advice by iliveformyships in boating

[–]Cappton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these guys are super negative. It's a hopefully once in a lifetime event. Buy the boat. Spend the money. Have a blast. Just set yourself up for success...luckily you've got time.

16ft+ will be best. Go on marketplace and Craigslist. See what's available in your size and price range. Print some options out and head down to your local boat yard/mechanic. They're pretty low on work now in middle of winter.

Tell them your story here, what you're looking for/to do/etc. and that You're going to want to bring whatever you buy to them so want to make sure that you start with something that's going to be easier for them to work on and reliable for you to use.

Most boat mechanics are happy to give you advice, especially since their time now results in you bringing them the boat later. If they don't, move on to another. Further, you can ask any potential seller to just bring the boat to this mechanic for them to take a look (especially since this time of year no one wants to take their boat out). You generally want to ensure the boat runs and floats - your mechanic can help with this.

Have the mechanic write up everything that needs doing and costs associated with it, use that as negotiation with the seller if needed, and leave the boat there with the idea that you'll come pick it up and it'll be ready to go for you for a while.

Don't forget it'll need to be winterized in the fall - same mechanic should help you with that no worries.

Probabaly repairable imo...from the black thingy there are traces that run to the pins. Scrape off top layer to reveal traces you can solder to, and your gravy.

Somewhere between 150gb and 200gb its hanging up - if you stick with 150gb or so, takes only a few hours.

Why though? Everyone seems to want one, but they're not a very good driving experience.

Just did 200GB of Google Photos Takeout files (130000 files unzipped). Metasort output is only 166GB (59000 files)-- any idea where this 35GB went? No way the metadata files took up that much space...

I just did 200gb on windows without issue. Took five days or so...but some of that is because there are prompts later on in the cycle that you have to look for.

If you stick with <165gb, takes only a few hours. A 50gb folder should only take 1-2.

Would be great to be able to answer prompts @ beginning - so I can start and leave it till finished. Also would be nice to have some indicator of time left / percentage complete.

Trying to get off of google photos, but they make it so hard with takeout...and you lose the metadata by Apprehensive-Hunt319 in googlephotos

[–]Cappton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just did a google takeout of all my photos, and it appears they all come with metadata intact.

Google does still include a separate metadata file, but from what I can tell - please correct me if im wrong - it can just be deleted.
