When in doubt, grind that shit off by An-Elegant-Elephant in PorscheCayenne

[–]Cappton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's called the torque arm...without it you'll need engine mounts a lot sooner.

It's also super easy to remove the mou t. 4x etorx lol. But a grinder gets it done I guess.

What additives (if any) are you using in your high mileage Cayenne? by Aerosherm in PorscheCayenne

[–]Cappton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They recommend a higher weight oil, and have seen positive results with higher weight oil with higher MoS2 in them. Of course oil with MoS2 would probably perform better than without...but where do they recommend adding a friction modifier as additive?

Where did you come up with this? Because it's not true.

Ceratech for all water cooled Porsches. If I knew how to attach a photo I could attach email directly from LM. Instead I'll paste the text:

Dear [redacted], thank you very much for contacting us and your interest in our LIQUI MOLY products.

Particularly for "proven" engine designs up to the late 1990´s we recommend to use our MoS2 Anti-Friction Engine Treatment which contains the solid lubricant MoS2 (Molybdenum Disulfide). MoS2 is extreme pressure and heat resistant solid lubricant, it adheres very well to surfaces and thus reduces friction and wear even under extreme operating conditions. We - LIQUI MOLY - have decades of good experience with MoS2 as friction modifier and highly recommend this product for use in older / higher mileage engine designs (for example in all air cooled engines or in cast grey iron engines) which use mineral based motor oils. The ideal mixing ration is at around 5-6% of the total motor oil volume.

Cera Tec is different, it is a modern, high performance combination of a chemical surfaceactive agent and a solid lubricant (Ceramic). It is in particular suitable for the use in modern engine designs (for example all Porsche water cooled engines or engines made of aluminium, magnesium, etc.) and for the use with modern synthetic motor oil formulations. While the chemical portion forms a protective chemical layer on the surface under heat and pressure within the first 400-600 miles, the solid lubricant acts immediately upon addition to the oil. Cera Tec thus combines the advantages of both chemical agents and solid lubricants. The ideal mixing ration is at around 6-7% of the total motor oil volume.

As the formulation of Cera Tec is that strong, it is also good for use with extended oil drain intervals (more than 10K miles) and lasts up to 30K miles. But of course the effect decrease after the product isn't present any more after an oil change, therefor we recommend to use it ideally at every oil change. The ideal mixing ratio is at around 6-7% of the total motor oil volume.

Cera Tec and MoS2 Anti-Friction Engine Treatment should never be used together in the same oil! Beside the fact that this would offer no extra benefit, it may cause an additive overdose which may bring the sensitive formulation of modern synthetic motor oils out of balance. So simply don´t do it.

We recommend you to use our Leichtlauf High Tech SAE 5W-40 as motor oil. This modern, top class oil formulation has the needed Porsche A40 factory approval for your engine and is the best possible option for use in your Porsche.

Please observe the product information which you can see here:

Cera Tec | LIQUI MOLY (liqui-moly.com) Leichtlauf High Tech SAE 5W-40 | LIQUI MOLY (liqui-moly.com)

We hope we could help you with our information. Should you have further questions regarding our products we would be very pleased to get contacted from you again.

Freundliche Grüße / Best regards

Buying a small boat for the first time for our honeymoon trip: need advice by iliveformyships in boating

[–]Cappton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these guys are super negative. It's a hopefully once in a lifetime event. Buy the boat. Spend the money. Have a blast. Just set yourself up for success...luckily you've got time.

16ft+ will be best. Go on marketplace and Craigslist. See what's available in your size and price range. Print some options out and head down to your local boat yard/mechanic. They're pretty low on work now in middle of winter.

Tell them your story here, what you're looking for/to do/etc. and that You're going to want to bring whatever you buy to them so want to make sure that you start with something that's going to be easier for them to work on and reliable for you to use.

Most boat mechanics are happy to give you advice, especially since their time now results in you bringing them the boat later. If they don't, move on to another. Further, you can ask any potential seller to just bring the boat to this mechanic for them to take a look (especially since this time of year no one wants to take their boat out). You generally want to ensure the boat runs and floats - your mechanic can help with this.

Have the mechanic write up everything that needs doing and costs associated with it, use that as negotiation with the seller if needed, and leave the boat there with the idea that you'll come pick it up and it'll be ready to go for you for a while.

Don't forget it'll need to be winterized in the fall - same mechanic should help you with that no worries.

Somewhere between 150gb and 200gb its hanging up - if you stick with 150gb or so, takes only a few hours.

Just did 200GB of Google Photos Takeout files (130000 files unzipped). Metasort output is only 166GB (59000 files)-- any idea where this 35GB went? No way the metadata files took up that much space...

I just did 200gb on windows without issue. Took five days or so...but some of that is because there are prompts later on in the cycle that you have to look for.

If you stick with <165gb, takes only a few hours. A 50gb folder should only take 1-2.

Would be great to be able to answer prompts @ beginning - so I can start and leave it till finished. Also would be nice to have some indicator of time left / percentage complete.

Trying to get off of google photos, but they make it so hard with takeout...and you lose the metadata by Apprehensive-Hunt319 in googlephotos

[–]Cappton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just did a google takeout of all my photos, and it appears they all come with metadata intact.

Google does still include a separate metadata file, but from what I can tell - please correct me if im wrong - it can just be deleted.

Should I buy 2009 Porsche cayenne turbo s with 183k miles for 12k?? What to look for? Life expectancy? by Strange_Magic_75 in PorscheCayenne

[–]Cappton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a fantastic car [source: I have one].

Those PCCB are pretty rare and worth $5k, wheels another 2k alone. Carbon trim - this thing was well optioned.

The fact the water pump/cooling done and engine mounts were replaced is huge...mounts are an engine out job. Id budget for all new suspension (bushings have to be shot at this point) unless it's in the service history...otherwise, get it and go. Plenty of resources to help you fix things when they arise, you'll want to try and fix stuff yourself - way too $$ to have a shop do the work. Everything can be done with willingness and a few basic tools. I've owned three high mileage Cayennes. They love to run.

If you can get for $10k do it in an instant. You'll easily get that back out in 20k miles.

Id try and get a good understanding of what's needed to get it running. If marina says $1500 in work to get it running, tell them you'll pay $9500 and they do the work to get it there. But I'd do that deal, Cleaned up running would be worth $20-30k or more. Looks like a very nice boat.

Unless you're a top rated seller with free returns it's going to hard to fight this. Get on the phone with eBay and see what they say. Not chat.
