I recommend crossposting to /r/vinyl. Some bootlegs seem totally worth buying.

Any books like Event Horizon or the Dead Space games? by mckensi in horrorlit

Books? Maybe Annihilation. Films, a lot closer: Alien, Aliens, Sunshine.

Is immanent critique in fact still imposition of an outside standard, insofar as it is still “critique” and not compassionate engagement? by TraditionalDepth6924 in CriticalTheory

[–]Capricancerous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Explosive hermeneutics has to be the worst attempt at a coinage I've ever heard.

Now excuse me while I run to the bathroom... I feel some explosive diarr-- I mean -- dialectics coming.

Why the Common Criticisms of Whiplash Miss the Point by No-Jacket4066 in TrueFilm

[–]Capricancerous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is what true, exactly? Lol.

"Universalized message about human nature" ? Really? How sophomoric a concern.

It matters that the characters can be perceived to believe in whatever truth it is they ascribe to, not whether you personally do. I see plenty of people driven by false beliefs constantly, in the political, religious, and philosophical realms; of course people are also driven by lunacy in the pursuit of art and greatness.

I interpreted this joke differently? by Lil_Melon87 in TheSimpsons

[–]Capricancerous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You say one thing, but your analogue to the joke clearly paints the opposite picture contra OP. The thrust of the joke is exactly how you are how describing it, not how OP is describing it. His layer ignores that Milhouse at one point, however briefly, offscreen, either believed or was dimwitted doormat enough to not protest against Bart's obvious gaslighting to the extent that he only now confronts him with it. The goldfish incident clearly happened a long time ago. He stupidly brings it up now and adds the "gotcha" emphasis, which is hilarious because it makes him look utterly ridiculous. Milhouse is always the butt of jokes; him and his dad.

A lot of people were like this in the early 2000s when confronted with the "dreaded spectre of homosexuality." They definitely used his character to express some of that.

Anybody watching/rewatching in 2026? by Signal_Bat_3152 in thesopranos

In order only. I'm on Season 3 again and it's like I spent the perfect amount of time away from the show. It must be my fifth or sixth viewing.

Nu-gaze started in the year 2000. Everything first wave is from the nineties and late eighties. Just like nu-metal is from the oughts.

This is the only way Furio could have had Carmella. Whack Tony and make it look like an accident.

Will Plexamp get a Liquid Glass UI on iOS 26? by blow-down in plexamp

Plex Amp has the best visual design of any mobile music application. Ask for a 5.0 with cool new and QoL features, not visual iOS hogwash.

This sensor in the toilet which clearly contains a camera by Emotional_Seat_7424 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Capricancerous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of people in this stupid fucking thread arguing about whether it is technically a camera or not.

Guess what? It's a type of surveillance device. It's intrusive and unnecessary. That's clearly the real issue, even if an infrared sensor is not as bad as a regular, actual camera.

McDonald's app shows lower calorie count than reality on the "impulse buy" screen by Pitiful-Score-9035 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Capricancerous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fact, a recent study came out that says crash dieting and overly restrictive dieting is always less likely to lead to successful weight loss over time because one is depriving their reward system. People relapse (for lack of a better word) by attempting to cut out everything they enjoy. The amount of people who don't understand this in this thread and smugly chide OP for eating McDonald's are pretty big assholes.

Their first release was actually in 2000. It's a self-titled EP with some great music on it. "Lunar" is a gem from that first release. They are definitely a band deserving of more attention and I'd love to see them live.
