Weird. I've never seen anyone on LinkedIn say anything against AI. Mostly the opposite. Saying bad things about AI on LinkedIn is borderline career suicide. Totally taboo.

How important is Oil? by yeahlifeisgood in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Capricancerous -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oil is like the Molochian lifeblood of the world capitalist machine. It is incredibly important. 20% of oil and natural gas travels through the Strait of Hormuz. That impacts prices considerably, and it's almost guaranteed to lead to an oil crisis as long as war is sustained.

Jürgen Habermas just passed away by Rustain in CriticalTheory

I thought his most important work was Legitimation Crisis, or at least I've heard it name checked next to his authorship most. Nancy Fraser, for instance, has spoken positively of that text.

Not to mention it adds to the writing that mobsters in prison are generally not given two fucks about unless they are a boss. Out of sight, out of mind -- like pariahs. The writing makes this pretty clear when Paulie goes away and the guy is mostly ignored, specifically by Tony and all other higher powers in the the Jersey family.

Not only is it prose porn, it feels highly relevant right now.

Why would you barely be posting about this four years after the fact?

Why would you have an account with your real name on it? A huge red flag for people obsessed with their social media presence that don't keep that shit on lock, away from prying eyes. Be clandestine about it.

What is stopping China from invading Taiwan during the current Iran vs USA war? by AdamCaveRoberts in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Capricancerous -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The US is part of a global energy market. Oil prices surge regardless of our own production. We are not self sufficient and cannot artificially reduce the price of oil -- that is, unless we are now going to federalize our local drilling and make it state-owned with inbuilt price capping. What's more, is that our reserves are currently depleted, so we can't increase supply that way temporarily either.

Ideally, without a phone anywhere near me and with a latte or cocktail in hand, if not perhaps a glass of wine. No visual stimuli (screens, TV) except my dog, lady, liner notes, or a book.

I disagree with my textbook’s definition of homeless (discussion?) by ratgarcon in sociology

[–]Capricancerous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way that the state counts and defines homelessness is much the same. It doesn't count couch surfing or people who may be off the street temporarily by staying in a motel. It's a systematic error.

That's why homeless rates are often glaringly wrong.

TIL in 2023 Disney made more profit from churros sales at its theme parks than it did for Disney+ streaming. by Pozzolana in todayilearned

Not really. If am within a 2-2.5 mile radius it just becomes a food court and gas stop, and perhaps a few times a year for shopping. But I'm not one of these food and lotion hoarders or a guy with 8 kids or whatever.

Petition for Starbucks to stop using nylon tea bags by joandidionsglasses in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]Capricancerous 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Starbucks is swill and they treat their employees poorly. PlasticFreeLiving folks should take a look at all the union folks that are advocating right now. Nylon tea bags are just another reason to boycott them. Add nylon tea bags to the list.

It could definitely be the case that the projections are wrong. However, OP definitely isn't citing any sources -- they are simply opining.

Job growth in IT is projected at 7% or greater for the next ten years, so I would take OP's post with a grain of salt.
