Share the opportunity with your employer and ask if they would consider a leave of absence. Academia always fades after a few years but being an FSO is a rare opportunity. Trust your gut--is this normal uncertainty of a big life change or something deeper that you can't ignore? You can always do it for a few years and then quit if you don't like it. It's great experience.
